“Yeah.” He tightens the bungee straps on the other side of the crate—ensuring that they’ll stay hooked in place. He peeks around the side to look at the other man. “Just going to the other end of the route, right?”[break][break]
His decidueye perches at the front of the cargo load, posture slouched and relaxed, though he’s definitely still keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings.[break][break]

Releasing a second bird, the flamigo flutters up to the top of the crate. Perching there to preemptively DETECT and alert for any threats that might creep up from behind.

“Who’da thought,” he replies in turn with a laugh. While Greyson’s decidueye remains serious and impassive, Artichoke is largely unbothered. One of his most relaxed pokemon, Artie doesn’t seem to care if the other owl snubs him or not. He flocks around the cargo at a lazy pace that’s more vigilant than it appears.[break][break]
Lam shrugs. “Eh, doesn’t seem to bother him any.” He jerks his thumb back at his own. “Maybe yours had a premonition.” His own tone matches the elite four’s in dryness.[break][break]
Something that persists with another scoff. “Swimmingly.”[break][break]
He moves toward the front so that they can get the supplies rolling forward. “Nah, nothing too severe yet. But I won’t count it out.” He, at least, knows better now.

From the top of the crates, the flamigo he released wobbles—long, bendy neck swaying with the jostling movement. It holds, though. Still looking outward to detect any suspicious activity.[break][break]
The turn in the conversation does draw a particular somberness from him that Lam doesn’t tend to outwardly present. His smile slackens into a neutral line as he hums in agreement.[break][break]
“We’re better prepared this time. Surely—“ but he can’t say that for certain, can he? Not really. Not when the tide could change with even the smallest shift in situation.[break][break]
A short glance notes the tic of Greyson’s jaw, the spike in his anger. A brow rises. Maybe he’s just fired up, or maybe it’s more than that. “If you start overthinking every move now, you’re going to end up in your own head about the details later.”

"Not typically, no, but the League doesn't need avatars and powerhouses as much as you might think." He shrugs, diving more into his opinion than any official stance. "Someone trustworthy and motivated makes a world of difference."

He understood the man's reservations though. Gym Leader was one thing, but to step-up as a member of the Elite Four? That required commitment beyond the normal.

"I'm sure they're interviewing candidates anyways," he says, hoping to ease off the pressure.

He cracks an amused grin at the laughter he manages to pull from Greyson, despite his prior somber mood.[break][break]
“That’s a fair point,” he admits, shoulder rising and falling, “flattering to see you think I’m trustworthy and motivated, though.” Even if Greyson meant to imply it, Lam laughs as he nudges the other with an elbow. Just to show it’s not something that actually goes to his head.[break][break]
He just isn’t sure if he’s there yet. If he would be anytime soon. Or ever. Again, he can’t shake the feeling that others seem to have a whole lotta confidence in lil ol’ him. For reasons he can’t really see or fathom.[break][break]
“I’ll think about it, at least,” he offers, though his attention is pointedly on the security of the cargo they’re moving. “I mean, who knows what’ll happen, right?”[break][break]
