[break][break] but ollie wasn't going to join them. he had to buy enough time to make sure they could all get away.

the rocket vessel approaches, but chaos comes sooner. some grunts fly towards the ship, circling to find an opening to land while league forces scramble on deck. marcus teleports aboard with the help of his kirlia, but he replaces her with his munna as soon as he feels his feet on solid ground. [break][break]
forewarning picks ollie morales out of the crowd of league personnel on deck. munna turns to look at him, floating harmlessly at its trainer's side.

below, drednaw is struck by supersonic. pain runs like electricity through its confused brain, forcing it to let go of the ship. the boat rocks the other way as its released, then starts to list toward the damaged side as more water rushes inside.

ROCKS form in glowing orbs as they SMASH into the side of the ship, in a haphazard attempt at saving the ship from an early demise. the rocks sink into the craters in the hull, even as water spurts from the sides of it.

[break][break] "h-hey! who are you guys?"

[break][break] the league vessel is suddenly taken over by marcus kotov's men; rocket grunts leap over the edge of the ship and immediately engage in combat with the rangers that are already there. a strawberry-pink aroma begins to swell at the bottom of the broken hull, slowly rising like a tidal wave over the ship in a fuzzy pink cloud.

[break][break] "hey! stop it! what are - reveal yourself!"

[break][break] gritting his teeth, ollie releases his jolteon. electricity sparks from biscuit's fur as he leaps forward to DOUBLE KICK a charging grunt.

drednaw remains afflicted by confusion, gnashing its teeth together around an invisible tormentor as pain lances through its mind. it thrashes in the water, oblivious to mudkip's attempts to fix the ship.

ollie morales 's question warrants no verbal response. a tide of rocket uniform-wearing grunts rolls onto the ship, breaking against fleeing league personnel with fists and pokemon. some startle at the familiar sight of pink mist, but others brush it off.

what is this? marcus wonders as the fog settles on the deck of the ship. most of it is blocked out by his helmet, but he gets the faintest waft of something sweet as he advances through the haze. his munna swims through it, zooming ahead of its trainer to pop out beside the head ranger.

its mind reaches out to his. to tether.

"you don't recognize me?" a feminine voice asks.

sunshine. if not Eva Morales who resembles it as much as him, then it must be annalise henderson. anna was the one who brought him in from kalos, the one who was his penpal for years. anna is the reason that he's on hoenn in the first place.

[break][break] but staring at the bright smile of his best friend, smothered by pink mist, ollie can only feel a yawning pit opening up in his stomach.

[break][break] there is something wrong - so wrong - about the sight of it. but his mind can't place why. not exactly. it's almost like the sight in front of him is a little too good to be true. something that is a little too-bright at the edges.

[break][break]"you left me down there to rot," she insists, agitation lacing each syllable as she looks around the jail cell and succumbs to panic. guilt spiked in his chest at her words. 'no! that isn't right!' he wanted to argue, wanted to tell her that this wasn't true. he didn't leave her. she was recovering! she - [break][break]

before his thoughts could unravel, the interdream mist took apart ollie's worst fears about her imprisonment and made it a reality. the smell of blood, cold iron bars, and cement floors erected around them. no longer was he on a boat at sea, listenign to the sounds of rocket and league clashing; he'd been transported into a freezing cold rocket cell. [break][break]

'is this... this what it was like for eva?' [break][break]

"no!" [break][break]

the head ranger stepped back, foot creaking against floorboards. [break][break]

"i - i didn't! i didn't take your seat. you - you let it go before - " 'before you were kidnapped' "i didn't even want it! i wanted to look for you. but - " [break][break]

on the other side of the bars, behind the wall of interdream mist: golden eyes, a flash of red hair. his guilt manifests in glimpses. there in one moment and gone in another. annalise sees it — her — laid bare as she stares through ollie morales .

"no way," she breathes out, then raises her voice. "no fucking way! her?"[break][break]hands reach out to push roughly against his chest, as real as the betrayal in her face. a tray clatters against the ground, scattering cupcakes at their feet. he's back to the moment where all heartaches converge. [break][break]
"you're so fucking selfish it's unreal. she ruined eva's life and you still went back? did she tell you not to look for me? and you listened? you totally fucking listened!"

"no!" he blurts, immediate. the word tears out of his lungs painfully, as if this annalise reached down into his throat and grabbed it out.

[break][break] ollie - sunny, wonderful, always happy ollie. ollie, who always wore a smile on his face no matter the circumstance. ollie, who never wanted to see anyone hurt.

[break][break] hurt bleeds all over his expression, as if annalise henderson had stabbed him in the chest and splashed blood onto it.

[break][break] "i didn't - " he stutters. "i didn't —" they weren't together. he hadn't - she hadn't. "it's complicated. penny and i, we're —" they weren't together. but his life would always encompass hers, in some form or another. even if she was with CIAN MAHER, or MATIAS SILPH, or something else. the ties that they had made were the ties that bind. flashes of memories from galar coalesce around him, but just as they had accosted freya morningstar once, they were now wrapping around ollie. suffocating him.

[break][break] "it wasn't just penny! it was dahlia too! everyone agreed. i couldn't - i looked for you! me and derek found a bunker. i went against league wishes." against penny's "but anna, i couldn't find you."

[break][break] a SCREECH sounds from beneath the ship, as his mudkip engages into combat once again with the drednaw.
