This shore was ridiculous. Not even Aelthizar the Conqueror had struggled so hard to capture just a strip of sand. The beach was littered with craters, Howard was covered in sand, and the howls of defeated Pokémon echoed across this proverbial No Man's Land. Not only that, but his Pokémon were getting tired. Each step felt leaden. Trudging through sand made it harder.

Luckily, he was used to sand. He had walked entire deserts before.

He needed a place to catch his breath and recover. Somewhere, anywhere would be nice. Howard's nerves were shot. His eye was shot. He was shot, judging from the ache in his leg. The Howard Slayte Experience was not going so well. There wasn't enough money in the world to make this worthwhile, but there was one prize.

Only one that would satisfy him.

The end of the shoreline was approaching. Howard looked down at the ground. He was an obvious sight, with his black grunt uniform and mask. He couldn't muster the strength to look up. Yet, as he prepared to cross the last handful of meters before freedom, he looked up.

And saw it.

"Oh, come on." Howard rasped.

[attr="class","inner-finally"]Who would've thought? The trick to avoiding conflict is unsurprisingly avoid being caught snooping around. Not by strangers, nor familiar faces, no matter how close they may be.[break][break]

But how is she meant to do that when the very kind of person she's supposed to be avoiding just seems so... dishevelled and pitiful? Nevermind that something about their voice seems familiar, she feels like it would really sit on her conscience if she just leaves them in that state.[break][break]

Thankfully, the Snorlax is a wide boi, their sleeping posture giving her more than enough place to hide as she calls upon her Comfey. And a floral scent will begin to waft through the air, providing just that bit of healing for the masked man.

There was a Snorlax just sitting near the end of the battlefield.

That was pretty relatable. Howard wished he could simply fall asleep on the spot, and never wake up. If he had enough money for food to look like that, he'd be sleeping too. Man, where were these good vibes coming from? Howard let out an audible sigh as Comfey's gift improved Howard's quality of life from a shitstorm to a florally scented shitstorm. If he could ever afford a car, it'd smell like this.

"Ah..." Howard put a hand on the wide fellow to stabilize himself. He blinked back tears. This felt incredible after constant battles. Man, he had gotten punted by Gym Leaders too many times.

Yet, where was this scent coming from? It definitely wasn't the Snorlax, unless he had spent the last week eating air fresheners.

Step. Step. Soft indents in the sand appeared as Howard walked around the Snorlax to see what was going on. If anything, he could get back to murdering children or crushing skulls or whatever heinous crimes Team Rocket would demand of him today. Man, he hated this job.

[attr="class","inner-finally"]Murdering children probably seems very much like a joke until he notices a pair of eyes with mismatched shades of red, peeking right back at him from just around the Snorlax's belly. They'll blink in surprise at how he's thought to wander around the sleeping giant, widening as they take in every bit of his appearance they can snag.[break][break]

And just as quickly as they're spotted, they duck behind the other side and disappear.

There was someone there! Those eyes were familiar. Howard's eye narrowed from behind his helmet as he quickly danced around the Snorlax. His dance with the mysterious fellow continued for several rounds around the Snorlax, before Howard simply stopped circling the round beast. Each time he got close, the Snorlax seemed to adjust in its slumber.

"This is ridiculous." Howard muttered as he reached for his belt and threw out a ball. A Carbink came out in a flash of light. The Carbink, Gemsly, floated one way while Howard went the other. He was going to catch whoever was hiding around this Snorlax. It was safer this way, too.

If Snorlax decided to wake up from his eternal slumber, Howard would quickly enter one.

In all honesty, that would mean the rise of the slumbering titan, the anger of the earth incurred and turned onto the closest person.[break][break]

Which is exactly what happens with a fresh breath of Aromatherapy wafting through the air. The Snorlax takes in a rather deep breath, scrunching its nose as it begins to inhale sharply. Once, twice... Then it lets out a thunderous sneeze, sitting up as the winds of its sneeze cause a miniature explosion of sand.[break][break]

Though its eyes are usually shut like how Hideo's are, this one stares down at its feet with bloodshot eyes. And who else should it spot but a certain howard slayte skulking around?[break][break]

Judgement must be passed upon those who disturb its slumber.[break][break]

BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Howard went flying through the air as the Snorlax's lasers of death struck in his immediate vicinity. Of course, this Snorlax had slept through the entire fucking battle raging around it, but as soon as Howard Slayte came along, the lazy bastard decided that his life had simply been too easy.

Yeah, because fighting Suicunes and Head Rangers and Gym Leaders and whatever else had been so easy!

As Howard flew through the air, his Probopass appeared, and created a bed of mini-noses to gently put Howard down to the ground. Not only was he getting his ass kicked by a Snorlax, but he was getting bridal carried by his Probopass! Lucky him!

His helmet banged against his head as he fell to the ground. His vision rang out as his Probopass released a Stone Edge towards the beast that threatened to put him six feet under the shoreline.

"Guhhhhhhcarbink?" Howard grunted as he stood up. Where was that little gem fiend?

After all, things have been rather rough in these straits. Who wouldn't appreciate a good ol' hug in these trying times? Sure beats running around and possibly getting lasered by a grumpy Snorlax, right?

Gemsly approached Eris cautiously as its trainer got atomized from orbit. Howard was doing surprisingly well, all things considered. Few could survive two Hyper Beams. Perhaps Team Rocket was best to make their armor out of Howards. They were practically indestructible.

"Egads! What's a child doing on the battlefield? Aha, I see! You must be the newly enlisted child labor! Splendid! Splendid! You may attend to me!"

Or, in Eris-speak:

"CARBINK CARBINK CARBINK CARBINK CARBINK"

After pondering, the gem sprite nestled close to Eris and accepted the hug. This felt nice. Gemsly had fought Suicune for a little bit, and it was tired! A hug was perfect! Howard never offered hugs. He simply began drooling as soon as he realized Carbinks were perfect for gem checking.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

"OH MY GOD FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK!!!"

And she'll use the chance to scoot away from the Snorlax, taking time to look over the seemingly tired sprite and offering good ol' headpats.[break][break]

What wouldn't Reiner give to be in its position? It's lucky that the Luxray is nestled away, lest it be struck down with alarming amounts of electricity.[break][break]

"You're kinda beat up..." She murmurs, waving Chloris over to help with healing. "Whoever put you through all that is mean."[break][break]

A.K.A that nameless grunt being sniped by the Snorlax.

"STOP ATTACKING ME! I DIDN'T EVEN DO ANYTHING!" Howard yowled as he dodged another blast from the Snorlax. Ayer had begun to zap the fat beast with multiple Thunder Waves in an attempt to slow the fiend down. It had taken about twelve zaps before the Snorlax began to slow.

"Hah!" Howard threw a chunk of sandstone at the Snorlax, which hit the beast's head with a donk. This promptly enraged the Snorlax, which continued its rampage. "Are you KIDDING m-" Howard shouted, before his voice was drowned out by an explosion.

"Good heavens, I'm in agreement!" Gemsly agreed. Did Carbinks even have a concept of heaven? "There was this dastardly Suicune that attempted to shank me, and this pompous arse who attempted to ruin my day! I hope that his gems are cloudy and sell for 20% less than market value!"

Alternatively:

"CARBINKCARBINKCARBINK!" Whatever the Carbink was saying, it seemed to agree with Eris. What a polite and spry fellow!

"Huff. Huff. Okay!" Howard's suit was scorched, his helmet cracked slightly, and he had lost hearing in one ear, but after a grueling game of 'nuke the Howard', Probopass had used a mixture of Block, Stone Edge, and Thunder Wave to subdue the beast.

Currently, the Snorlax was fuming as it struggled within its makeshift prison. Was it overkill? Likely, but Howard was currently bleeding out in several different ways because of this waste of space.

"Yes, yes. You should've seen it when Howard dropped a tunnel on him and some old sport with shades! Blasted fool thing, to wear sunglasses in a cave, but his name was even stupider!" Gemsly chirped. "Something about shredding aircraft, methinks? I do believe it is best to save my trainer! His life is sad enough as it is. He was able to afford a sandwich after a week of boiled cabbage, and I think he cried into it. He also..."

"CARBINK CARBINK CARBINK CARBINK!"

That seemed like a yes.

"Nice save, Ayer." Howard collapsed into the sand with a sigh. "You did good. We're finally safe from..."

The stone cage that imprisoned the Snorlax began to crack and tremble.

"...that Snorlax."

The baby cage it's trapped in doesn't seem that structurally sound and the way it cracks under the Snorlax's latent power makes it clear that it won't last for long.[break][break]

"Vespertine."[break][break]

Dark red seaweed sprouts from the sand and gently grasps at the collapsed grunt. In an instant, he's warped to her side, an Ally Switch snatching him out of the Snorlax's sight just as it breaks free of its shackles. And though she isn't sure if this is the slightest bit safe, she'll kneel down, carefully prying the mask from his face if only to ensure that he's still breathing.
