Nenet was relieved to be finally paired with someone she knew. She followed quickly after Jack through the tunnels, her eyes scanning passageway walls. Jack's Mismagius scouted ahead while Nenet has her Hatterene bringing up the rear behind them for protection.

The opening into the chamber gives them both pause, and Nenet peers around Jack to observe the new development, the glyphs especially catching her gaze. "Some sort of puzzle," she muses aloud as she skirts around Jack to peer closer at the glyphs.

Grinning, she quips, "I don't think we'll be lucky enough for an 'Open Sesame' to work."

"I think our options are press them, or, well.." She eyes the door meaningfully before she hazards, "My Hatterene might be able to break through it, or your Mismagius pass through?" Nenet spares a curious look to Jack curiously for his opinion.

"You heard the lady, Mismagius. Give it a try," Jack said to his ghost pokemon as she floated haughtily toward the door. As she began to pass through the surface of the stone, the glyphs adorning the door flared to life with a blast of energy. Jack raised his arm just in time to shield his face from the blast of dust and pebbles and mismagius was blown back across the room. Coughing deeply, he pulled the front of his uniform to cover his nose and mouth.[break][break]

As the dust settled, Jack nudged Nenet and pointed back to the door where the glyphs now glowed with energy. "Those look like elemental symbols, don't they?" he asked, taking a tentative step into the room. "I can't tell whether we should try to puzzle it out or see if Hatterene can batter it down. I don't know if we should risk another energy blast in here," he said, glancing between the pokemon and the stone overhead.

"Of course," Nenet mutters, her tongue clucking in disappointment the bull-headed route failed. Well, they could be smart about this.

She steps nearer the door and peers at it, a hum of thoughtfulness sounding from the woman; her hand lifting, Nenet lightly traces one of the glyphs with a thoughtful expression. "They do look like elemental symbols," she muses aloud, her hand then moving to tap against the center one.

"I have an idea," she suddenly announces, her eyes bright. "Press here, on this one," she points to the glyph to the left while she stand before the one on the right. "Hatterene, terrestrialise."
[break][break]
With the command a burst of brittle black light fills the chamber and Hatterene's typing changes to Dark; eerie waves of energy skitter upon the air, and as the force becomes nearly palpable Nenet urges, "Press your glyph."

Jack's eyes widened in amazement as the hatterene terastallized. Jack had heard about the phenomenon but seeing it in person for the first time was amazing. I have to ask her about that later, he thought to himself. He gave himself a mental shake as Nenet directed him to the second glyph and he stepped to the left. Watching the glowing energy radiating out of the symbol carved into the stone while the hatterene's dark energy washed over him sent a shiver down his spine.[break][break]

Glancing over at Nenet, he grinned and said "Let's do this!" and pressed his palm down over the glyph on the door.

Nenet gives a firm nod at Jack and presses down on the glyph at the same time he does. At first, nothing seems to happen, the dark terrestrialisation energy of the room merely roiling about, and then the door stone beneath their hands cracks with veins of light. The room shakes for a moment, and then the door rolls down into the ground to reveal an open passage behind it.

"Well," Nenet whispers, her eyes wide with curiosity. "That worked."

She flashes Jack a wide grin as she asks, "Shall we?"

"Mismagius, be a gentlelady and bear a light for us, please," Jack grinned, elated that Nenet had been able to open the door. Jack delved further into the passageway by the light of Mismagius' mystical fire, scanning the rough stone of the walls and the dark floor for any signs of traps or potential cave-ins. Though the echoes of League forces receded behind them into silence, soon Jack heard a hushed rumble from further down the tunnel. He motioned silently with his hand for the team to halt and he held his breath to listen.[break][break]

The rumble grew louder with each passing second until tiny burning lights appeared in the tunnel ahead, growing larger as the rumbling thud of footsteps grew louder. "What is that?" he leaned into Nenet, whispering his question to her. Almost as soon as he finished speaking, the roar of flamethrowers filled the narrow cavern, illuminating six heatran thundering up the passage toward them.

Nenet followed after Jack, her Hatterene shuffling along behind the pair while Mismagius lead the way. She leans nearer Jack as he whispers to her, her brow furrowing, and pushes up onto her tip-toes to peer around him to see better; the effort is perhaps futile as there is suddenly light, and there are suddenly pokemon headed towards them.

"Shit," she deadpans. "Hatterene! Brutal Swing!"
[break][break]
Nenet's pokemon surges forwards to meet the group, one strong limb manifesting to slam into the leading Heatran; taking the brunt of the attack, the Hatterene shrieks in pain as flames crackle over its skin.

The pokemon continue to scuffle further down the passageway and Nenet looks to Jack for guidance.

The sound within the passageway became deafening as all out battle erupted between the pokemon. Psychic blasts and toxic bubbles were holding the heatran at bay for a moment but the pokemon fought with a desperation that sent a chill down Jack's spine. Under normal circumstances, Jack thought the two trainers might be able to hold off six wild pokemon, but this was a fight to the death. Jack ducked as a gout of fire from a flamethrower burst past him and charred the wall of rock to his left. Another blast of psychic energy from Mismagius shook the passage way before Jack turned to Nenet and shouted, "We need to get out of here!"[break][break]

At Jack's shout, Mismagius dropped back to where the two trainers stood. Dark chanting and ghostly light whirled around them before the pokemon's phantom force pulled them through space and they materialized back at the glyphed door through which they had entered. "Quick, close it again!" Jack shouted, though away from the battle his words echoed in the quiet chamber.

Gouts of flame dance across the air and Nenet barely ducks it with Jack. They're immediately down the passageway, their pokemon doing their best to keep the Heatran on the other side of the door until the trainers are in the clear. Hatterene fills the passageway with a flash of light from a well-placed Dazzling Gleam, and as the Heatran are momentarily stunned from the light, skitters through the doorway to help in closing it.

Nenet gives Jack a faint nod and calls for her Hatterene to terastalise again; as dark energy fills the chamber Nenet presses hard onto the glyph as before as Jack does the same.

There's a tense moment of nothing until the grind of rock upon rock fills the air, and the door slams downwards to close off the passageway. Just as it closes the chamber shakes violently as one of the Heatran slams against it - thankfully the door holds, but Nenet stares pale-faced at Jack.

"Let's not do that again," she says as the begin to make their way back outside towards the fresh air to report their findings.
