This was the actual battlefield. The make or break moments that would decide what went down, and Genny was not going to take it sitting down. No chance, no way. She was going out there, and throwing down. Even if she couldn't knock them down, or arrest them, she'd do what was necessary.[break][break]

She was set for an offensive assault inside of a cave, where some Rockets had scrambled into.[break][break]

Atop of Zagreus, Genny would rush in, diving inside the rocky home, and keeping an eye on all her vital areas. Zagreus proudly huffed, eyeing the world for potential people that dared to hold steel to his person. The two looking about. Genny not making a sound until she puts a hand to her ear.[break][break]

"Senior Ranger Cromwell. I'm in position."[break][break]

It was a bait to get someone to come out quietly.

this cave makes respite for some weary rockets. marcus joins them later, oblivious to the ranger lurking in the shadows. he has far more important business to attend to. a poke ball rolls into his palm, then a kirlia appears. her hands glow a gentle blue as she places them on one grunt's wounded thigh.

like the gift Remiel Calcifet had given him, this wound begins to heal. not completely — they don't have time to sit and let the life dew reach its potential — but enough to get these grunts on their feet again.

the kirlia's hands still over a broken rib, trying to hear over whispered chatter. the group falls silent. whatever the psychic-type thought she heard isn't audible now.

It doesn't take long for Genevieve to find the mark, but the issue is... seeing people in pain, no matter their affiliation... soured her. War was bitter. War was a tragic friend who left her melancholic and nostalgic with a forgotten familiarity.[break][break]

Maybe it was the Kirlia who was busy healing away the pain that these people felt that inspired her to help. Even the enemy.[break][break]

Deciding to get out of hiding, she pulls something out of her knapsack. A first aid kit.[break][break]

The naivete of a girl who didn't want to hurt others, and bring a smile to everyone, weighing down on her in a moment of vulnerability. These people could turn on her, could kill her, take advantage of that vulnerability. But even then, Genevieve will think it was worth it. Because that's the kind of person she is.[break][break]

"Here."[break][break]

She holds a small bottle towards the masked Rocket. Painkillers. Nothing crazy or heavy duty, but something to take the edge off. "Medical-approved. Promise."

masked faces turn to look at Genevieve Cromwell as she slinks out from her hiding spot. marcus bristles at her approach, hand hovering near the poke balls at his belt. his kirlia, sensing the shift of his mood, stands up. though none of their expressions could be read, the second wash of silence whispers their shock and confusion: [break][break]a ranger? walking right up to them? [break][break]
a gloved hand takes the offered bottle out of her hand. he twists the cap and shakes a few into his palm, then tips his hand and drops the pills back into the bottle after staring at them for a moment. [break][break]he's run into league personnel like her in his lifetime. sincere. well-meaning. most of them are dead now, buried wherever their good intentions had led them.

"One of my duties is to take in criminals to law enforcement but... I don't see criminals right now. I see hurt people. You're trying to help them." Genevieve tries to give a small smile. She knows the risks. She could get blindsided by this person right now. In her naivete, she could be badly injured, or lose more than she ever bargained with.[break][break]

But she wanted to take a chance. Because even if the world is cold, and Rocket is the enemy, she wants to believe in a better tomorrow.[break][break]

"It's yours. Even if you throw it out later."[break][break]

She moves through her first aid kit, and looks towards the masked Rocket brightly. "Are you a doctor? I'm no medical professional, but I can help patch them up." She pulls out the gauze, and pulls her Ranger gloves off for two rubber gloves.[break][break]

lam logan, ollie morales, and Isaac Merlo truly did help her.

the grunts propped up against the wall watch the ranger. some stare reproachfully, others wince or groan with pain behind fully-masked features. kirlia takes a deep breath and uses calm mind to cleanse her head of intruding emotions and thoughts.

These people here still needed help. Even if the roles were reversed, it doesn't matter to Genevieve. To Genny, as she ties her hair into a small ponytail, and rolls up her sleeves, she can't help but feel at peace. What were they? Nothing good.[break][break]

And that's okay.[break][break]

"Feel free to help if you'd like." She smiles towards the masked Rocket, beginning her work. One after another, she would apply disinfectant to wounds, and gauze to repair. In the moment, it truly didn't matter to Genny if these attacked her. She was confident enough in those injuries to dismantle and break each of them with her own hand-to-hand work.[break][break]

It's not much but... Genny calls over to the masked man, as she finishes another of his coworkers. "For just the moment, if needed, just refer to me as Genny." She gives a perky smile to the grunt.[break][break]

She hasn't once attempted to unmask anyone.

Genevieve Cromwell 's invitation hangs in the stale, cave air, untouched. marcus watches, arms folded, as she does his work for him. one by one, the work of her fellow rangers and officers is unmade. in a different universe, they could have worked side-by-side as field medics. [break][break]
but they're in this, unkind universe.

kirlia can feel the stirrings of her trainer's intentions, a low vibration beneath the clarity of her calm mind. as the ranger — genny — moves onto the next grunt, an invisible force reaches out for her midsection. silent, marcus keeps his eyes on her as his kirlia tries to toss her across the cave with psychic.

It's that same innocence that is so easily preyed upon. Genny doesn't see it coming. Or rather. Genny did. It was just that, as she was snatched up and gripped, she was tossed through the cave with a Psychic, that she slammed against a wall, sliding downwards with a thud.[break][break]

Her head was spinning. Her hazel eyes peered out.[break][break]

"Huh?"[break][break]

Blinking, she looks towards the person who did this... was it the Kirlia?[break][break]

However. quiet but not forgotten, the howl and snarl of a massive Arcanine rushes in, fire exuding from his mouth. Zagreus would ROAR with the ferocity of a wild animal, eyes filled with protective malice; protective for Genny, malice for everyone else. They dare cast the first stone to his person, so he would make sure to cast the last stone as their grave.[break][break]

If they even had the guts to face him, he will show no mercy. As Genny attempted to wobble upwards. The crash made the world so shaky. Her consciousness was fading.

marcus clicks his tongue with disappointment as Genevieve Cromwell stirs in the dust. before he can do anything else, an arcanine leaps into the fray, roaring with such ferocity that kirlia disappears back into her pokeball. the sitting rockets scramble with varying success — the less injured make for a stumbling escape, while the worse-off groan and try to crawl for cover.[break][break]his heart beats hard against his ribs as adrenaline dumps into his veins, but he keeps his feet planted where they are. a pokeball slips into his palm, then his espeon is fills the space between them in a flash of light.[break][break] "copycat," he murmurs, the second syllable drowned out by the startlingly deep roar that reverberates out of the psychic-type.[break][break]

Wobbly... wobb... ly...[break][break]

Genny sees him in double vision. She hit the cave wall too hard, and it costs her. She was too nice. Too naive. Her wanting to help only shoots her in the foot, and as she tries to grab onto the wall for support, her knees buckle.[break][break]

She collapses. Faded.[break][break]

The roaring Espeon does put fear in Zagreus, the Arcanine taking a step back. He's sure he can take the cat, but... not at the cost of his person. With a whimper, he turns on a dime, and with a powerful throw back, he grabs Genny's outfit with his teeth and swings her over his back, before running out of the cave.
