mika goes where the wind speaks. today, it sighs out a silent meaning that she takes to heart: something new and exciting lies in the wilds of new mauville. so, new mauville she navigates. it has a different atmosphere than the city proper, but she supposes the same could be said of all routes and their respective cities. it's poetic, in a way: that the branches differ from the core, that the heart beats differently than the appendages. [break][break]

suddenly, sora the talonflame chirps. she blinks and looks at her companions, all of who've been let out of their poke balls for some time, and who've taken the initiative to pull her out of her own head. she smiles at the sight of them: the amber-smoke wings of sora, a talonflame's pallor blurring between the lines of scarlet and sun-orange, and to his left, chiyo the prinplup with a sky-blue disposition and bright eyes that always cause mika to smile in turn. it waves its hand, and she doesn't have time to wave back before the third pokemon, ruru the cherubi, throws itself like a child at mika's knees. she acknowledges it and laughs — always the spoiled girl, that ruru. "yes, we'll get a new friend for our group. it's been us three for what feels like the longest time. come on, let's see who's waiting for us out there."

the ranger watches for movement in the tall grass. they spot a stray elekid wading through the thicket, and places a hand on a poke ball attached to her belt. for a moment, she considers going for the elekid, but hesitates. it's wandering closer to the depths of new mauville than what mika is comfortable traversing, and her current companions don't seem as excited as they are tense. [break][break]

it's not the one. or at least, mika decides she'll be fine with leaving it alone for now. they turn to sora, and give a sage nod. "go ahead and keep a lookout for us." the talonflame answers in kind, and takes off into the air above. mika waits for his signal that a new prospect is in sight.

sora's voice pierces the sky, and mika glances up to see the scorching pokemon hovering over something in the distance. the ranger turns to the rest of their party, and ushers chiyo and ruru to follow their lead. [break][break]

when they head towards the clearing where sora is, mika scans the surroundings instantly. then she spots it: a lone bronzong, bobbing through the air at such a slow speed it almost doesn't look as though it's moving. but the haunting notes of its cry resonate throughout metallic curves, and mika feels a thump in her heart. she always did admire the steel type pokemon of the world, and when she thinks about her current team, she knows they could use someone that had a bit more defense than what they currently have.[break][break]

"that's the one!" she calls out as she signals to sora, and in a rush the talonflame dives down with a flare blitz, striking the bronzong from above to momentarily catch its guard off. the bronze bell pokemon peals with surprise, but mika doesn't let it suffer for long. she tosses a poke ball at it during the midst of the chaos, and watches as bell-shaped body, wreathed in flames, disappears in a flash of light.[break][break]

mika and her three pokemon gather around the same spot in the clearing, where after a few shakes, the bronzong stays put in its ball. she smiles at chiyo and reaches down to ruffle ruru's stem, then looks to sora and says: "let's welcome the newest addition to the team."
