Shit. They were really her cookies, weren't they? "Wait, you made them yourself?" he asked, as impressed by the effort as he was surprised she was allowed near a source of fire. "Well, if that's the case, I guess I gotta have one of each, right?"[break][break]

It was only after he drew the cookies from the lunchbox that he realized the other half of Eris' implication.[break][break]

"Ah, heck. I'm gonna have to bake up a new set for you two, aren't I?"

Her creations are a mixed batch. While there are some good ones in there, there's a tiny bit of char circling the bottom of some, and perhaps even a small bit of salt found amidst the chocolatey goodness in others. Cooking was freeform inspiration, where the expertise of Ashley Shepard, Zev Harcourt, and Aurelie Lefevre had been guiding lights along his journey. With baking, one of your five identical white powders being a pinch too heavy could be a disaster.[break][break]

That was Eris in a nutshell, though. She tried her damndest to do her best, no matter how big the job was. It paid off; for all their little imperfections, the cookies were delicious![break][break]

"Way better than any cookies I've ever made," he admitted, remembering how many scrapped batches it took him to make some proper brookies. "Next time you're baking, you gotta teach me how." If she was worried Isaac's question had been a vote of low confidence, his delight and interest would hopefully flip that script.[break][break]

"I'd been wanting to work with my hands more, anyway."
