It came suddenly.[break][break]

There Momo Sakai and Genny were, walking the streets of Lilycove. Genny intending to show Momo a cute little Halloween party shop, where she intended to buy a dress. Maybe, Momo could come with, if she so wanted. Two dresses would be cuter. Genny even offered to pay for both.[break][break]

When the voice shreds through that peaceful tranquility. A voice that has Genny immediately on edge. "RED OR BLUE?"[break][break]

A frown comes over her lips, and she eyes the dark, twisted alleyway. A frown pushing through her. Without a moment to lose, comes out a Mudkip, who adjusts herself upon Genny's shoulder.[break][break]

There's a part of Genny that wants to take her little sister, and high-tail it. But after her chance meeting with the HBIC with Gunner Graves during a missing persons case, Genny is feeling more heroic, more capable. She turns towards Momo and smiles. "Hey. I'm going to take care of whatever this is, okay?" Her protective, big sister instincts kick in. And she takes a step into the dark alley.[break][break]

"Blue." The Mudkip, conveniently named Blue, tenses up. She'll play the game for now, and keep Momo safe.[break][break]

"i'm so so excited to see what kind of outfits we'll find!" momo cheers as she walks alongside genny, the two of them intent on spending their time at a halloween party shop. the coordinator loves any chance to dress up, so needless to say the autumnal holiday is one of her favorites! and big sis genny is so nice to invite momo, and even nicer to offer to pay for their dresses! while momo couldn't possibly refuse such kindness, she endeavors to find the cutest dresses ever for the two of them! maybe they can even be matching!! [break][break]

then a strange and disembodied voice calls out to them, asking red or blue? [break][break]

"wh-what was that?!" momo squeaks, practically jumping out of her skin. her entire body alights with fear: pink strands of hair radiating out as she bobs with movement, roseate eyes blown wide with anticipation. her hand instinctively reaches for chica the chikorita, herding the leaf pokemon closer to her body, the pokemon matching its trainer in unsettled nerves. [break][break]

both the girl and her chikorita start cowering behind the ranger, but stick close to her for fear of something pulling the two of them apart. whatever's in that alleyway seems like bad news, and though momo trusts genny and blue to handle it, part of her is worried, nonetheless. "o-okay, big sis genny." momo says, carefully orbiting the other's space. [break][break]

she still peeks through the space between the other's arm, too curious about the source of the voice to look away for long. [break][break]

Today got so much more panic-induced, but as Genny stood between whatever the voice is and Momo, the Mudkip at the ready to fight, Blue raring to go... hazel eyes trained and set upon the foe before them, she holds a hand out to keep Momo safe when-[break][break]

A ring. With it, a splash of water flung to the world, with a Vaporeon, flying outwards, splashing into the world proper, and solidifying itself. The ring closes, a snicker emanating from it...[break][break]

Genny takes a moment to analyze the beast, an Eeveelution comprised of water. The redhead stops, letting her guard down, as the watery creature looks around in confusion, panic set in, as she paws towards the walls of the alleyway, as if removed from where she was before.[break][break]

Confused, Genny's eyes move to Momo.[break][break]

"I don't think it wants to hurt us." She ponders, a brow risen as she takes a step closer. "Are you okay?" A cry from the Vaporeon. She was so confused now. Where was she?[break][break]

Genny turns towards Momo.[break][break]

"Approach slowly if you want. We need to calm it down." she orders out.[break][break]

To think. Today they were supposed to go see costumes for the upcoming holiday. How do things keep getting weirder here in Hoenn?

genny's steady hand and unwavering figure are what momo uses to ground herself. she latches on behind the other, a gentle hand pressed into the material of her clothing, small fingers knotted up against red. momo holds her breath, but releases it when the mysterious presence makes itself known. [break][break]

a large ring materializes in the air. emerging from its center is a small wave of water, and though momo can't see it, there's an undeniable weight and shape traveling through the water, a confused cry echoing throughout the alleyway. it sounds vaguely familiar (having an eevolution of her own has familiarized momo somewhat with sylveon's equally cute cousins), so the young coordinator blinks slowly, fear lessening bit-by-bit. [break][break]

but she still doesn't trust that the danger has completely passed. even when the invisible force reveals itself to be a vaporeon, momo keeps her guard up. though maybe it's just as big sis genny had said: the water eevolution looks surprised to be here, too. perhaps another force teleported here against its will? "okay," momo says as she nods along to genny's plan. regardless of the circumstances as to how it got here, it's up to genny and momo to make sure no harm comes to anyone else as a result. [break][break]

"chica, be gentle. don't get too close in case your grass-typing scares the vaporeon," momo advises her pokemon. the little chikorita nods slowly, and the two of them look to genny and blue. "i'll follow your lead, big sis genny!"[break][break]

As always, Momo is appreciated for how okay she is. She nods, and takes a grasp of the situation. Though she is a Coordinator, Genny is glad it's Momo that's here with her. That calming aura, the Grass-typing she has so naturally symbolic and hopefully something to calm the Vaporeon down.[break][break]

With a lean down, Genny moves a hand slowly towards the Vaporeon, hazel eyes longingly on the little water baby. With a moment, the Vaporeon cries out.[break][break]

With it, Genny and Momo both are immediately tackled into the ground, and cried into, tears-staining both of their outfits. The mews and cries of a Vaporeon torn away from home are so potent, as she eyes towards Momo. The feeling of being so far from home, and the cries themselves. The Vaporeon just wanted to go home. Like a child, screaming for their mother.[break][break]

And Genny, lovingly, cups the Vaporeon's cheeks in her gloved hands, and smiles. "It's okay... this is Momo, and my name is Genny. Over there, is Chica... and here-" her Mudkip pops up with a wave- "-is Blue. It's okay."[break][break]

The crying of a Pokemon does well to break Genny's heart, but she'll stay strong. She just hopes Momo can as well, now bundled in this alleyway with a Vaporeon bawling their eyes out.

momo leans down low with genny, waiting for the vaporeon to react to them, as wary but approachable as possible. momo figures that she'd be just as scared in this situation as the vaporeon is. though momo herself is far from home, not knowing where you are in the world is a scary thing, not to mention being teleported to somewhere as unpredictable as hoenn! [break][break]

the water eevolution runs full speed ahead, crashing into the two girls' arms. momo wraps her arms around the vaporeon, muttering a little "oh!" followed by a giggle of sheer delight. what a cute, sweet thing this vaporeon is! [break][break]

then it breaks out into heartbroken cries, and momo glances at genny with her own eyes starting to water, too! "oh, big sis genny! the vaporeon is crying!" then she calms herself down, laughing despite the emotion that rose up within her just now. "hi, i'm momo! you're very cute and sweet. i'm sorry things ended up like this." but at the same time, she's glad that someone reliable like genny is here. surely a pokemon ranger knew what to do in a situation like this! [break][break]

but just in case, momo had to ask: "so what's gonna happen now?" [break][break]

The introductions are nice... but seeing Momo's eyes tear up, laughing all the same, Genny tries to keep that strength in her gaze. It's something else, honestly. Knowing that this little Vaporeon just got ripped away from home, crying now in their arms.[break][break]

Momo tries to help calm them, the Vaporeon crying still, but smiling at Momo more after her sweet words, as Genny takes a moment to think. What happens now?[break][break]

Quietly. She moves to set the Vaporeon in her lap, letting Momo get up, unanswering the question. The current task was to calm them down. With a smile to Momo, Genny sharply inhales, attempting to get as much air as she can. She's done it a lot recently... and it's helped to calm her nerves. Especially after the incident at Route 105. If Momo knows the words, maybe she'll join in too.[break][break]

When she's sure she has the control in her diaphragm...[break][break]

🎵 "Let's go in the garden, you'll find something waiting, right there where you left it lying upside down..." 🎵 The soothing voice comes from her lips, the vocals for fun, a sweet ruffle to the cheeks of the Vaporeon, as they calm down more. The smile fades, but there is no more tears, as Genny lets loose the voice. It's shaky, it's imperfect. But as Blue joins in, the sounds of a Mudkip making noises to try to harmonize...[break][break]

The Vaporeon curls up more on both of them. Relaxing.[break][break]

When Genny realizes it too... she smiles, a hand ruffling the full fin by their head, and continues to the end.

NOTES

- Seeing no other option, Genny sits up more straight, gives Momo a smile with no words... first task? Calm the Vaporeon.[break]
- Singing a song, as best as she can, it helps the Vaporeon to calm down, Blue the Mudkip joining in with little meeps and mops. Seeing it work, Genny intends to finish.

at big sis genny's behest, momo stands up, giving both the ranger and vaporeon a mite of space between them. momo had been prepared for some super cool ranger display (maybe she'd seen too many movies where the good guys always talk into devices and a team of back-up good guys come rushing in from outta nowhere), but is equally surprised at what genny does decide to do. [break][break]

the notes that come out of her are sweet, soft, and brilliant. momo feels as much of a pokemon herself, listening to the woman's melodies, feeling even more joy when her mudkip joins in. the soft meeping and mawing of the mudfish pokemon adds an extra layer of cuteness, and momo and chica sway as they also listen to the song, but join in the vaporeon in its rapt attention. [break][break]

the vaporeon is calm. [break][break]

momo giggles, and gently draws nearer to genny once again. "wow, your singing voice is so nice! that vaporeon looks so calm now..." and momo feels a sense of calm, too, but that much is obvious. "you're amazing, big sis genny!"

When the song comes to its end, and Momo giggles and draws near her, the redhead feels her cheek flush. Slight embarrassment. She's no Melody Miro, that much is for sure, but it was enough to calm the Vaporeon down. With a strand of hair behind her left ear, twiddled by her finger, she can't help but smile.[break][break]

"I-" She's a little shell-shocked, the compliment was something else, as she pulls Momo into a hug. Eyes gaze down at the quietly smiling, yet crying Vaporeon.[break][break]

She can't accept the compliment. Not yet. "Hold on that for when I can find this little one's home. Here-" She pulls out a Pokeball, intent to boop the Vaporeon on the nose, but giving them ample time to make the decision to pull away. To jump into the ball, and travel with them for now... or to stay out of the ball.[break][break]

The Vaporeon doesn't even hesitate. The ball is filled. And they disappear.[break][break]

With a turn towards Momo, a sense of accomplishment, and happiness on her lips, she prepares to get up. "Come on. It's almost time for Halloween, Momo. Let's go pick out some costumes." She did still have the one to show Momo! Her little sister. Maybe not by blood. But blood didn't matter here.
