Shalin didn't want to be on the front lines. As the one slated to assume boruta maher 's Ranger Captain seat, though, she felt compelled to do so. Heroism would look good on her resume and fend off those looking to challenge her for her seat. It wasn't about her, though; it was making sure denizens of Dewford, and the rest of Hoenn, had homes to return to.

Riding her Yanmega into battle for the first time since Littleroot, the Ranger Captain-elect's hands held her AVIAN BOW much more steadily. The vibration kept her senses sharp as she peered down toward the island, her insectile steed ready to snatch the first isolated Rocket she saw and shake them to unconsciousness like a maraca.

The INTERDREAM MIST leaking from the shore made it difficult for Shalin to see what was below her, even at low altitude. She made a wide pass around where the mist remained most dense before flying closer to it. "Alright, blow this stuff away!" Shalin cried, Flit's wings turning nearly invisible as he churned them with great speed and vigor. Every hair on her body stood on end, the vibration strong enough to impair the rider's sense of touch.

Provided the buzzing wings were able to clear the mist away, the Ranger Captain's eyes would shift toward Theo, Yanmega flying toward him with mandibles outstretched. This dragonfly was ready to snatch Theo into the sky the first chance he got, making a lunge at him with a SPEED BOOST-powered QUICK ATTACK.

[attr="class","beckmain"]the sudden parting of the INTERDREAM MIST is concering enough to call for his attention. his pokemon react similarly, already moving to defend their trainer.

it's why the QUICK ATTACK finds the skrelp instead of theo. its ACID ARMOR activates as it attempts to wiggle free.

With the Skrelp snatched firmly in the Yanmega's grasp, the dragonfly did what it was known best for: tearing apart foes with vibration. His wings churned loud and fast as he hovered, Shalin looking like she was having the time of her life as her mount's entire body shook wildly. The poison-type's ACID ARMOR, while it did not eat away at the Yanmega's hard, spindly legs, did make the foe too slick to hold onto. Shalin felt a sudden jerk upward as the Skrelp's weight fell from under Flit, adjusting his wingbeat rate to maintain the hover.

If Theo wouldn't allow a direct strike, that was okay! There were multiple ways for the giant bug to attack, and his favorite was to use the very air against his enemies. Violently churning his wings a second time, the Yanmega landed and loosed a SUPERSONIC shockwave, every hair on Shalin's body standing on end from the intense tingling feeling shooting up her body.

[attr="class","beckmain"]his skrelp proves to be no match and would've likely succumbed to the attacks had it been the only pokemon on the field. luckily, its weaknesses are accounted for when aggron's ROAR looks to counter the SUPERSONIC.

perhaps it would be enough to set up skrelp to close in for a FEINT ATTACK. it tries regardless.

The intense sound waves clashed against one another, neutralizing each other. Without her suit on, the full strength of Flit's vibration was simply too much for her body to handle, especially after having gone through so many harrowing battles before.

The Skrelp's FAINT ATTACK wouldn't give Shalin much of a choice in the matter, though; when the duo swooped low enough to try to latch onto the roaring Aggron, the small Pokémon ambushed them, landing behind the bug's saddle and belching venom over them both. The girl hissed as it ate through her Ranger uniform, leaving her with a burn on the back of her skin. That burn was agitated by Flit desperately churning his wings to try to dislodge the Skrelp with vibration alone.

Sensing her dizziness and weakness, Flit tried to dislodge the Skrelp with a U-TURN. Pitching Rielle's Poké Ball beneath her, she landed in the saddle of the Shiny Vaporeon that was roughly her own height.

[attr="class","beckmain"]the U-TURN is enough to dislodge the skrelp. it falls to the ground, landing with a splat before struggling to get back up. it still manages, however, and TAIL WHIPS at the vaporeon.

sensing the tides turning, aggron goes on the offensive. it rushes forward to DOUBLE-EDGE the vaporeon.

The loss of mobility in the third dimension proved to turn the tide of battle in the Underboss' favor. Rielle was forced to shield Shalin and herself with a veil of PROTECTIVE water, blunting the reckless charge. "Phew, that was quick thinking, girl!" she exhaled, giving the water-type a pat on the base of her neck.

Not wanting to be up close with an Aggron, the Rapidash-sized Eeveelution disengaged, putting distance between them as Shalin drew her AVIAN BOW. Nocking an arrow upon it, she took a shot at the weakened Skrelp, winds of Alexei Ivanov 's Wandering Stormbringer guiding the arrow toward the poison-type. She was aiming to pin the slippery poison-type down and render it unable to continue fighting.

[attr="class","beckmain"]luck is a fickle thing. the scales tip so easily and the result of it is skrelp's life. the arrow knicks it in just the right spot, sending it to oblivion as its body slumps to the ground.

aggron continues on the offensive with a HEADBUTT to the vaporeon.

Shalin's aim was true. Perhaps too true; while she was not aiming to kill, the wind guided her shot directly between the poison-type's eyes. It was not recovering from that, the Pokémon's life gone in an instant. The Ranger was paralyzed with fear. It was unbearable to lose a loved one, as she had when going through the hell of synthesizing Lathiel, her Type: Null. It was even more unbearable to be responsible for the death of any Pokémon, regardless of whether it was controlled by Rocket or League.

Rielle was paralyzed by a different kind of fear, the well-placed HEADBUTT causing her to rear. The steel-type had successfully interrupted a water-type attack that would have left it in awful shape. Her mouth foamed with WATER PULSE after both Pokémon and rider got ahold of their emotions, though the Aggron had plenty of time to anticipate the counterattack to come.

The close-range, reckless DOUBLE-EDGE heaved both Shalin and Rielle into the air. They flew just high enough that the impact with the ground stung, while not high enough that she had the reaction time to get a flying Pokémon out to save her from the fall. Groaning, she reached for the first Poké Ball within her grasp, undoing its latch and hurling it toward.

From the Ball emerged a lithe, white insect Pokémon that towered over Shalin, nearly one and a half times her height. A gorgeous Ultra Beast hailing from the harsh desert, Nymris twirled about, the bug-type raising one of her legs and delivering a whirling, RAPIDLY SPINNING kick. Shalin herself was still a sitting Ducklett, struggling to her feet as the Ultra Beast attempted to defend her.
