Kepler’s collegiate thesis in deep-space and deep-ocean transportation kept coming back to bite him in the ass, in a way. For a guy who really did not like being put in harms way, it kept fucking happening.

The sea was not happy today. Foam licked at his boots and he curled his legs up pretzel-style on his Metagross, glaring out at stormclouds and waves. His Beheeyem floated behind him, occasionally popping a protect bubble when a surge got too close.

He kept the coastline in view at all times. He didn’t really give a fuck about Kyogre. He was looking for Galarian Zapdos. But with skyler dross absconding the Region and Kyogre apparently pitching a shitfit, every flunky, researcher, legendary hunter, reporter, Avatar wannabe, and toddler capable of tying their shoes was out looking for the fucking whale.

So Kepler got drafted to play Captain Ahab, using the opportunities to look for Chocobo-- or, well, whatever version of Chocobo this would be, not really Chocobo but Chocobo-adjacent-- while he was out.

"So Mama Bird!" Mint chirped, blonde wig tied up into a short ponytail and curling bangs pinged tight against his head in black bobby pins and barrettes. "Why're we out here?!" he said watching the choppy waves. [break][break]

"Would've thought our baby boy would've rushed off closer to the desert! You know, wide open spaces to run in- no uh..." he paused, struggling to recall the memory. "No...uh...those...uh...the- thethethe-...TAR MOSNTERS! Or well poison? No monsters to stop its tracks just maybe other mythological beasts-" he's cut off by a sharp howl of wind. But the signals on his device are still weak, if anything. [break][break]

His Feraligatr moves in closer, looming and hunching over his trainer, glittering skin bright and shiny even in this low light. "Thanks Spritz..." he said as he wiped off the screen on his energy signature tracker. [break][break]

They could very well be out here due to Kepler's instinct. Not that it was anything better than Mint. All he'd had was a vague cardinal direction form his cameras and then zilch after.

Parroting his pro-Rocket lines had become second nature. He didn’t sleep so much anymore as he lay in bed and stared at the ceiling and imagined what would happen if they kidnapped and tortured him. He’d gotten so good at lying.

His head snaps up at our baby boy and his stomach seethes. He inhales a deep breath of salty air and can already feel the pneumonia sprouting in his lungs. C'mon, Kepler. Porcelain to ivory to steel, bitch.

“...I have a theory.” He looks down at white-capped waves, shivers in his layers of gear. “The theory is, chaotic Legendaries attract each other. Like… like Godzilla and the MUTOs.” He sweeps a hand out at the sea. “All drains lead to the ocean, kid.”

Mint grinned, wide and shit eating. "Well, you don't have an alias yet. So why not? It's kinda cute." he said, clearly teasing. Kepler was a bit too sullen for someone possibly about to witness a giant sea titan appear. Mint was giddy. Rarely did the opportunity come. Even if he had fought it's previous avatar, Mint had absconded the fight before Kyogre had a chance to crawl its way onto the battlefield. [break][break]

"Well not shit, Mama!" Mint added, snapping loudly over the waves that crashes around them. He taps the screen of his tool noting there was beginning to be a spike of infinity energy being registered. [break][break]

"Mmm...game recognizes game you think?" he said nodding along to the explanation he actually wanted. The readings continue to spike and he grins. "Get ready!" he shouted suddenly, voice sharp as the device beeping goes nuts, shrieking as something approached. The sea rises and out amidst the downpour comes one glowing yellow eye, pupil shot and staring right through the humans and their partners. Water crashes in its wave and its all Spritz can do but HYDRO PUMP the cascades of water away form them. [break][break]

Kyogre opens its monstrous maw and screeches, almost twitching or convulsing before slamming its tail down n them for a harsh AQUA TAIL.

“Because I’m not a mother, his-- theirs-- or otherwise.” There's more anger in his words than he really knows what to do with; it was not something he could explain to anyone, really. Except maybe Ash. Definitely not Mint.

Mint’s speciality was intel. He, like Kepler, was small, fragile in appearance, and decidedly more dangerous than he let on.

At least, Kepler liked to think he was capable of great danger, though all he’d done so far was prove to be a danger to himself.

“Sure. Exactly. Game recognizes game.” He didn’t get to finish the lecture spooling on his tongue because the stupid whale picked then to make an appearance. “Ah, fuck, Olympus--,”

The Metagross summoned a whirlpool, twisting the massive waves of water into a spiral around them, offering some protection from the onslaught. The aqua tail, however, crests over their protective helical, slicing through it like a knife through hot butter.

Kepler gets dunked, Metagross and all, and it’s all he can do to inhale before he goes under. The sea is cold, and he’s a mass of flailing limbs in rising, foaming bubbles.

Until the bubbles clear, and he’s staring at the mass of Kyogre, huge and unyielding, a dark shadow in the deep abyss, and in that moment Kepler feels very, very small.

Then his Metagross is back beneath him and they’re rocketing skyward. His inhale turns into a scream, chest burning, skin stinging and plastered with salt.

"Well, you sure act like one." he said. One would think someone who grew up without a mother wouldn't recognize it, but it was the opposite for Mint. He knew exactly what Noemi Fisk lacked, and subsequently, what Mint's relationship with her lacked. He wondered if their Heiress had gotten any familial love, but he had a feeling Noemi had been conniving from the start. [break][break]

Spritz needs to go to battle, and Mint has to get to safety. "I'll be fine, get in there." he said to the Feraligatr as it dove into the churning waters, recording equipment attached to his body. Mint lets out his Beheeyem to help keep him out of danger. [break][break]

"Kepler! You alright?!" he aske, his partner at the ready to TELEPORT in. He gets his answer not seconds later. Mint laughs as Kyogre shrieks in anger, slamming water against rock cliffsides and sandbars that seem to to nothing when faced against the titan. [break][break]

He checks his device, Spritz, staying deep underwater, trying not to get sucked up[ in the current of Kyogre's angry movements. The whale roars, the sound making Mint grab his ears and stagger backwards into soaking wet dunes. At this rate, Kyogre might just wash the beach away.

“NO I’M NOT FUCKING ALRIGHT,” he howls back at Mint, fingers clinging to his Metagross, breaking off tiny chunks of pthalo rock, soaked to the skin and dripping and diminished.

The waves roil and crash, Kyogre’s scream of anger echoing Kepler’s. “Go go go go up up up up!” he yells, and it’s like that painting of the ship on the ocean, the white foam rising, rising, rising, and Olympus rising, rising, rising.

“GO AWAY YOU STUPID WHALE!" Kepler shrieks, shrinking back from the edge of his Metagross as a spout of water shoots up hard enough to take his head off. Pluto flies in from somewhere, throwing up a protect bubble, but Olympus can’t move fast enough and all the water gets sucked into a tight spiral, writhing and raging, with Kepler in his little iridescent shield at the center of the typhoon.
