For once, for bloody fucking once, he wasn’t in any kind of trouble. Far from it.

In fact he was actually poring over a piece of paper that had scribbles on it—for the first time in a very long time, there was going to be a new addition placed around the Sanctuary area…

Specifically, it involved digging out a little enclosed ‘hot spring’ area because…

Holy shit where was he going to put that flaming spider to good use?!

(For starters, the Heatran was way too hot to leave running around the Sanctuary grounds, so where was he going to hide it… until his partner Guillermo Marceliño had come up with the brilliant suggestion of putting said ‘hot spring’ somewhere on the grounds.)

They'd met on a mission down into the depths of the Ultra Sea, and true to his word Alexei maintained that they should hang out after the fact to actually have space to not fend for their lives. There'd been a lot of that lately though as Yuina returned to Fortree City, knowing that the remnants of the situation beneath the swamps still remained out there on route 119.[break][break]
In any case, Yuina made her way into the city where Alex had told her to visit him at his gym, maybe he was a gym leader like Josh Devlin was? She wasn't sure how many there were really, or maybe she misunderstood, but either way she was happy to meet outside of those awful extraction missions.[break]
"Hmm, I think it's this way Dobs, he did say it wasn't the main building," Yuina remarked, walking along what she had to assume was the large gym building with the fun little canine like Pokemon she had met a little bit ago. The Smargle barked, walking with her as they moved towards another portion of the surrounding area, he had mentioned 'The Sanctuary' before.[break][break]
"Alex? Are you around," Yuina called out as she moved into the area, hoping she was in the right place, or maybe she could at least get pointed in the right direction.

Thankfully, one of his Pokémon was hanging around close to the perimeter fence and saw that there was someone who looked pretty much lost, or at least trying to find him!

There was a Pidgeot who had caught sight of the other human, before taking off in a flutter of wings and eventually returning with said human in tow, who was holding a large piece of blueprint paper.

“Hello, Miss Yuina!” he waved from the opposite side of the fence once he looked around the blueprint plan he was holding up, before immediately rolling it up and then cramming it into the plastic tube holder hoisted around his back.

“Oh, whoops, let me get that for you.”

He then went over to the ‘emergency gate’ in the fence, before quickly unlocking it and swinging it open so she didn’t have to go through the front building.

“Come in, come in!”

Fortunately, all in all it seemed like she was in the right place, for as Yuina and Dobs walked around just a bit aimlessly, she heard Alex call out, he'd spotted her from the other side of the fencing.[break]
"Oh, good," she smiled, finding him as he called out and moved towards a gate.[break][break]
"This place is amazing, you've really put in a lot of work with it, huh," Yuina remarked, moving in through the gate and stepping inside, it was hard not to marvel out how well planned out the facility was, it was really something.

“Sure did,” he continued with a grin as he then closed the fence gate behind them once she was inside; the Pidgeot keeping an eye on them from the gate itself.

“It wasn’t easy getting the cash together for the place, but somehow I managed it. Saved quite a lot of money for the initial plot of land, took me almost seven years to get it all together. The expansions were funded much later.”

Right now they were near the multitude of perches where there were other avianid Pokémon resting on some of the branches; there was an Altaria cleaning her cloudy puffy body on one; while another had an upside-down, slumbering Crobat. In broad daylight!

There were also two Wingull flying around—one of them shiny, the other sporting the normal coloration… before a sudden chorus of what suspiciously sounded like “mike” rather than “mine” came rising from a literal flock of Pelipper that were chasing after their wayward ‘children’.

“Whoa. Hey, Mike! Knock it off, will you? I have guests!” he hollered toward the Pelipper horde; who then about face’d and did a 180 on him, before squawking very loudly and heading in the opposite direction.

“…yeah, I was not expecting all of them to do that!” he continued with an embarrassed grin on his face.

“That’s Mike, commander-in-chief of the self-coined ‘Shitsquawk Brigade’, along with all the other Pelipper under his… ah, ‘command’ if you put it. Three guesses why they’re called the Shitsquawk Brigade.”

Being guided through the walkways of Alex's sanctuary, Yuina marveled at everything that she saw, especially the dozens of Pokemon that thrived within the grounds. She looked up at all of the birds flying by, the calls and squawks that they gave out, and Dobs barked along with them as he padded along with Yuina. It was really something special, having such a wonderful place like this.[break][break]
"I'm sure you mean it with so much care though, otherwise you wouldn't have built all of this for them," Yuina smiled, she could surmise that the name was meant to be derogatory, but it was already very clear that Alex cared for the flock very deeply.

Bless Miss Yuina, for she could comprehend that despite the seemingly ‘scathing’ way he referred to Mike and his reverse-harem of male Pelipper, she could tell he meant nothing but the best for them.

“It wasn’t easy getting the money together to get the place built, all things considered,” he shared. “Wasn’t easy working several jobs back then, especially when one job barely covers rent, so you have to get a second one just to have enough leeway for bills and all that.”

For at the core of things, he’d only gotten the position of Fortree’s Gym Leader during a time when the League was restructuring… how long ago had that been, now?

Five years?

Mike and the Pelippers had long gone, and they continued their tour, before he realized something—

“Speak of which, that’s a Smeargle you have with you, right?” he asked presently as he looked over curiously at the canine companion that was trailing along with her.

Alex elaborated a bit more on the extensive work that he himself had to do in order to make all of this possible, and it really sounded like an admirable effort, that definitely paid off in the end.[break]
"Wow, I mean, it really sounds like you put everything you could into making this place what it is... That's really incredible Alex," Yuina regarded, his dedication was clear, to both his Pokemon and his goals.[break][break]
Continuing their walk for a little bit longer, Dobs padding along beside Yuina as she looked around, she stopped as Alex turned, posing the question about Dobs being a Smeargle. That... Sounded correct, she would have to check her pokedex again to make sure... She was still learning about all of the Pokemon that she had with her, she couldn't remember everything.[break]
"Dobs? Yeah, he's a Smeargle, what a cute little guy huh," she smiled, patting the top of his fuzzy head as the normal type barked back at Alex.

It wouldn’t take long for the two of them to stumble across something—more like, one of the most recent arrivals to the Sanctuary.

To be honest, he’d been having a lot of problems on just where to put the Heatran, since it was literally the embodiment of living magma and… well, yeah, he would not risk a forest fire of any sort at all!

It had taken several weeks before they had finally decided to have a section of the Sanctuary set aside for ‘hot springs’ for Pokémon; although there were also plans for a human-sized version of the hot springs… all things considered.

“Oh, whoa, what the—” he trailed off as he saw a blazing pillar of fire in the distance. “Oh, boy…” he continued with a sigh as he realized just which Pokémon had done that attack…

“What did I tell you about using Magma Storm in the middle of the field?!” he called over to where the Heatran was, lounging in the ‘fire pit’ where they temporarily resided.

Moving through the pathways of the sanctuary, Yuina kept pace with Alex and Dobs padded alongside them, until the smoke and flames in the distance caught their attention. Alex rushed forward first, and Yuina looked on as she found what was a familiar Pokemon to her. A Heatran, one of the many that roamed around the depths of that island that had emerged from the seas, one that she had captured for herself.[break][break]
"Oh no, do you need help getting the flames under control," Yuina worried, this section was separated by a good bit, but still, any stray embers would cause a lot of problems...[break]
Yuina looked down though at Dobs barking and waving his tail around in the air, whimsical and delighted, and his tail glowed with a bright energy for a moment...[break][break]
"Dobs, what are you doing?"

“Honestly, I’m telling you… some of these Pokémon will do whatever they want when left unsupervised…” he trailed off as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

Either way, the Heatran then rolled over, sinking the heated coals on their back deeper into the ground…

“Speaking of which, I was trying to get a hot spring made out here, but see, the problem is—where can I put the Heatran? Think you can help me out here?” he would offer to her before looking over at the Smeargle who had… huh?

“Wait. Oh, no. I think the Smeargle copied the Heatran’s move,” he mused a few moments later.

“I’ve seen videos of Smeargle copying moves left and right on the Pokénet. The shit they can get gets to be pretty… wild.”

As demonstrated by the Heatran who was now lounging in the ‘pit’, stubby legs wiggling in the air like some kind of demented, silly little child.
