no one thought of lilycove and pokemon trafficking together. that's why it was such a good location for small-scale shipments. mar had her ship in the shop for repairs, getting some of its planks fixed after she was attacked by a ranger and failed inspection. she'd been itching to get back into things, however, and an admin had tossed her this task.

with a stranger.

some other rocket was going to be with her, a 'sage' that apparently had good skillsets for this kind of thing. someone who did less of the logistical end like mar did but could handle theft and working in the shadows just fine. a small ship was waiting for them just off the coast, looking like a medium-sized fishing boat. their task was to move the crates of mystery pokemon from behind the pokemart to the ship without raising suspicion.

mar stood in the alley behind the market with her push-cart, which would be able to carry the crates for them easily. but before she gave the signature knock on the mart door, she waited for her partner in crime.

Pokémon trafficking was something they had never done before. Theft had been more their speed, along with getting into places they didn't belong, like their dad's office. They didn't break in for any reason other than being bored.

However, they supposed the mission wasn't too different from what they were used to. According to the briefing, they were supposed to move Pokémon with someone named Marguerite without drawing attention to themselves. This was something they could definitely handle, considering their proficiency in stealth.

Stealth had always been their forte, and they often relied on it when leaving the base. They had even used it to get to the base, blending into the shadows to move from the base to the meeting place without being detected. Their mask, which they always wore, tended to attract attention if they didn't.

Arriving at the meeting place, they were surprised to find that they weren't the first ones there. "I hope you weren't waiting too long," they said to her once they were close enough to speak in a lowered volume.[break] Marguerite

either mar was deep in thought or the kid was the stealthiest thing on the planet, because she nearly jumped out of her skin when they appeared beside her. she didn't cover her reaction well, but at least her partner's comment gave her a moment to gather herself. "not long," she confirmed, trying to sound nonchalant. "it's good that yer here." she knocked on the door in an odd pattern. after a moment, it opened, and they were immediately looking at a lackluster storage room that had a few boxes of marked pokeballs, though all contained a pokemon.

"perfect," she said, watching the backside of the paid-off clerk that left them to their devices. "we load these up and we've just got to be careful of any uniformed goons on our way to the shore." before loading the first box onto their push-cart, she inspected a few of the strips of tapes on the pokeballs on top, looking to see what pokemon was stored inside. "aron, zubat, diglett... where's anything good?" no one would notice if either of them swiped one, but she wasn't seeing anything particularly tempting yet.

They could easily tell that they had caught her off guard. Not that she tried to hide it. Instead of bringing attention to it, they had just inquired about the length of time they had been waiting. Luckily for them, the woman hadn’t been waiting long. They hated making people wait, something that was partly due to their upbringing. After all, their parents had been big on punctuality.

As she knocked in a certain rhythm, they took the chance to look around. Not very many people were out and about. It was something they had noticed on the way here. They hadn’t had to avoid as many people as they usually did. They supposed that meant most people were at work.

Their looking around didn’t take long, and by the time the door opened, they had already turned forwards once more. Slipping into the room, they immediately took note of the boxes, making sure to note how many there were. Upon doing that, they would mentally judge if they could move all the boxes in one go or if it would take more than one trip. While they weren’t as good at math as some people, they weren’t terrible at it, so some mental calculations weren’t really that hard.

Letting Marguerite deal with the clerk, they didn’t tune back in until after he had left. They looked over the boxes themselves, giving the one Marguerite was looking at a cursory glance. “I don’t have much use for Aron and Diglett, neither are very ninja-like,” they said with a shrug. “Zubat… well, I already have a Crobat that I use as a ride Pokémon, and I don’t do doubles. I’m guessing the better Pokémon will be in the last few boxes we load up.”

They were sure she was considering swiping one, but if they were being honest with themselves, they were too picky about the Pokémon they acquired. So, unlike with their partner, the temptation wasn’t really there. Instead, they just decided to focus on getting the boxes loaded up.[break] Marguerite
