to walk on water was such an anime thing to do, and to see suicune do it was something he envied.

"oi," he talks to his sacred ash beast, "how come ho-oh didn't give me the ability to walk on water?"

he was still above the surface of the water on his own two feet, albeit in an ice bridge made by his suicune familiar.

the detour was a shortcut between places of interest. there was supposed to be an obstacle he was needed to dispatch, being one of the only remaining people in the field that could help, and he woke up late that day to be in the action in time.

kyle would have wanted to avoid any of the fights in the main area for more reasons than one, but he supposed it also meant that he'd inevitably meet any rockets thinking similarly to him.

thanks to that pesky reporter, Sierra Benoit, elijah had to abandon the helicopter. the pilot had voiced concerns over the deployment of his tangrowth. who knew heavy vines tugging on the landing skid would have caused damage to the aircraft? he supposes the reporter isn't really to blame.[break][break]

but he blames her regardless for forcing his hand.[break][break]

elijah is no swimmer, but the sea affords him stealth. with his dhelmise, he's able to traverse across the oceanbed quickly. ANCHOR SHOTS allow him and his pokemon to grapple through the waters like a swinging passimian until he needs to breach for air.[break][break]

but he sees ice. the vague shape of paws bracing against a cold, crystalline pane.[break][break]

when elijah breaches the sea's surface, his dhelmise does too with an ANCHOR SHOT aimed for the pokemon and its trainer.

his footing eventually crumbles as he finds a chain crushing the island of ice in its grip. before he fully submerges into the water, the suicune grabs him by his shirt. it was enough for kyle to have his hands on the suicune and pull himself up.

knowing that the target was underwater, he takes out a pokemon suited for it rather than have his suicune fight it. the eelektross comes out and quickly dives deep in the water.

it spreads its gastro acid into the water to muddle vision underwater. the viscous solution clouds up the water, providing a layer between the shallow part of the water and the depths.

one way or another, either side will have to cross it.

elijah descends into the water again after his breath. did he just see the champion? he’d rather discard the thought. tuck it away in a chest and forget it in some dusty, cobweb-choked attic.[break][break]

but the eelektross is an overloaded paintbrush. when it plunges into the sea, its GASTRO ACID diffuses its horrid pigment like a crawling tendrils. bubbles burst from elijah’s lips. he pats his dhelmise’s side, and the anchor hurls him out once again. elijah lands on the ice bridge, sputtering as the skin on his fingertips redden from the cold.[break][break]

he spits saltwater as he stares at the trainer before him.[break][break]

”just my fucking luck.”

his eelektross follows them up to the surface, using its large maw to crunch the dhelmise.

coming face to face with the rocket, kyle finds himself sympathizing. an awkward smile that teeters between actual amusement and empathy to the other's situation paints his expression.

"hey, on the bright side, you're about to get a distraction."

pink, cloudy mist comes out of the water, as if disturbed by the paradox of the copy of the suicune of this world coming into reality through the avatar's ability.

from it exits an iron bundle, shooting everyone with hydro pump like a fire fighter, disrupting the engagement while displacing every other pokemon in the sheet of ice.

the eelektross is thrown off its target, while the suicune shields for the avatar.

the dhelmise resists against the CRUNCH, its steering wheel spinning at frantic speeds, handles blurring into a single whisk. as kelp wraps around the eelektross, elijah gets back on his feet. the ice beneath him dips slightly. causes his feet to shuffle and shift like veluza scales.[break][break]

”you got to be kidding.” the apothecary grimaces as the mist delivers an abominable delibird.[break][break]

his dhelmise separates from the eelektross as HYDRO PUMPS fly. elijah leaps back into the water too, reuniting with his dhelmise. another ANCHOR SHOT slams into the IRON BUNDLE, forcing its head to spring out of its body like a jack-in-the-box. after a pause, the iron bundle snaps back. there is nary a scratch seen on the paradox as it repositions its “bag”.[break][break]

”this is above my paygrade.” elijah says to kyle. ”deal with it.”

while it's being restrained by the dhelmise, the paradox pokemon shoots its cannon once more at the eelektross, knocking it out.

"alright, alright," he answers. his words hint to a patronizing tone, but actions say otherwise.

with the electric-type recalled, the champion takes out another pokemon that can stand against the paradox pokemon and knock it out cleanly without much set up: his manectric.

with its legs planted on the ice sheet's surface, it glows with energy as it fires off its z-move at the target held in place by the rocket. a quick z-move: lord of vermillion fries it and its circuits for good before it disappears into the mist.

"truce?" he offers. "like let's just pretend this encounter didn't happen and we can just, you know, walk away from this mist?"

as other paradox pokemon jump out of the mist, kyle mega evolves his manectric. she would be his personal bodyguard for the trip, featuring suicune as the transportation.

"that's for you guys to capitalize on," he cheekily responds to elijah. "it is easier to do certain things alone than with a group too."

such as escape among other things.

the manectric magnet rises from the surface of the sea and paves the way with an aggressive wild charge, trying to paralyze any of the adversaries it comes in contact with static electricity.

he gives elijah a farewell salute before he hops on his suicune to follow after the dog.
