Mei had never ridden a horse before, but how hard could it be?[break][break]
She removed a glove and touched her bare skin to Aether's flank. The short, pearl-white fur was as cold as the snow that fell around them. Mei did not shiver, however - she'd always been fond of the cold. Instead, she sighed, breathing in the crisp, clear air and closed her eyes. If she strained, she could hear the heartbeat of the massive equine beneath its otherwise silent visage.[break][break]
"Be gentle with me," she requested softly. It whinnied, then turned its icicle-adorned head to gaze at her. It seemed to Mei as if the Glastrier was silently judging her, weighing her worth. After a moment, it lowered its nose to nudge her on the cheek.[break][break]

As they passed back through the glade - by the frozen lake - Aether stopped, attention captivated by something ahead. Mei peered around the horse's icicle mane, seafoam eyes widening as she realized what was ahead.[break][break]
The Lapras was beautiful, an enchanting visage covered in a fine layer of frost. Glittering in the sunlight, it was a rather ethereal sight to behold. A good omen, Mei thought.
