"It's a really elaborate costume," he once again whispers in Anna's ear, peeking over the small woman to regard their new friend. From what he could see the ensemble had no visible arms — did they tuck them in?

Turning back to the festivities he notices a number of games, grinning as he notices the child pays particular mind to them as well.

"Alright, let's play. Loser buys the group whatever they want!" He races off from Annalise, purposefully going slow to let the child catch-up excitedly.

This was going to be fun.

and only a few minutes later, annalise is fishing a wallet out of her festival outfit and thumbing through the contents. the ranger captain isn't the type of girl to leave a kid in the dust for the sake of competition, so she's stuck in last place, pouting at Greyson Connors as she folds the money between the pinch of her fingers.[break][break]at least the child with them seems happy, their muffled giggles diffusing from behind their strange mask. she's surprised they aren't out of breath after keeping up with the elite four member. ogerpon takes their hard-earned souvenir, then reaches for greyson's hand to guide the group away from the crowds.[break][break]"i think it wants to take us somewhere," she points out a little obviously. The thought disturbed him; simulation or not, what role would a child play in it all? Slowly the crowd begins to trickle as they near the edge, and when the trio finally get to the point where only the faintest sounds of the festival can be heard, does the child release their grip and turn to face them.

Somewhere along the way he'd realized the truth — this wasn't a child. But, what type of Pokemon was it? Nothing came to mind.

Reaching up to their mask, seeming to want to take it off, it freezes. The mask cracks and Greyson's hackles rise.

"Get bac—!"

His words die as the TOXIC CHAIN explodes outwards, and the weapon follows after them.

It is clear over time that this is no human, but a Pokemon. However, you play along, enjoying your time with this friendly creature.[break][break]

Eventually, the Pokemon brings you to the outskirts of the festival to offer gratitude before its departure. But the good times do not last. Its crystal mask begins to crack as a TOXIC CHAIN bursts from inside it. As the scene begins to change, it swings its IVY CUDGEL at you.

eventually, it becomes evident that the little creature leading them toward the outskirts of the festival is not a human child. annalise doesn't mind the realization, but it does make her curious about the identity of the pokemon beneath the strange mask. [break][break]it feels like a breach of their tenuous trust to try and lift the mask, so she keeps her hands at her sides, following the pair to the edge of the festival grounds. [break][break]the mood in the simulation seems to shift as ogerpon freezes up, a crack forming along their teal mask. [break][break]she reaches for Greyson Connors 's arm to pull him away, eyes wide as a strange appendage juts out from the fractured mask. [break][break]and then the simulation melts away as the pokemon brandishes their IVY CUDGEL. annalise blinks, slowly coming to terms with reality after being in an augmented one for (what feels like) so long. [break][break]"that was weird," she says flatly, looking up at greyson. "did we, like ... fail? i don't know much about this simulation stuff."

Standing there, confusion etched in the sharper angles of his face, he could only shake his head so slightly it was near imperceptible.

"I don't think so."

In his hand was a pair of masks — the very same that the Pokémon had been wearing, but much smaller.

"Here," he hands one of them to Annalise. "Keep that. It may have some use." It spoke little to the circumstances of this simulation, however, and he knew that was at the forefront of both of their minds.

"Whatever that was, it didn't feel normal. Did you see that PURPLE CHAIN? Come on, let's go. I'm sure things will come once we've eaten, and slept."
