A humid, lush jungle surrounds you. The heat is unbearable and the air is thick. Sweat clings to the skin like a Spidops' silk.[break][break]

Suddenly, a deafening explosion sounds behind you. A volcano has erupted. A lethal pyroclastic descends upon you and your Cyclizar, and you must race against the clock for your lives.[break][break]

As the simulation booted up, Andrea found herself riding on the back of a Cyclizar. The lush jungle surrounding them was teeming with extinct species from the Stone Age. Due to the unbearable heat, the young cosplayer was forced to remove half of her iconic onesie, letting it trail off her backside like the molted skin of a Scrafty. A black sports bra covered her bare torso for decency.

"I wonder if Fossil Pokémon would feel at home here." The eccentric trainer pondered aloud, before sending out a Tyrantrum and a Draconish to walk alongside them. "Do you like it here, Regina? What about you, Fishie?" The giant T-Rex gazed at its former hunting grounds with a look of familiarity and longing. The Dracovish responded with a bunch of incoherent noises.

Suddenly, a volcanic eruption interrupted their prehistoric excursion, causing Andrea's mount to stir. "Don't worry, girl, we'll protect you!" Was that Cyclizar even a girl? She had neglected to check its sex. Regina deflected one of the flying chunks of debris with her mighty Dragon Tail, while Fishie used Protect to erect a barrier of light around the group.

"If we go deeper into the jungle, we might escape the blast's radius!" The semi-costumed girl cried out, urging the past Cyclizar to move ahead. Truth be told, she didn't know what the radius actually was or whether it was escapable, but it was the best course of action she could come up with while thinking on her toes.

The oppressive heat presses down, and though the lush jungle air hangs over her, Genny feels herself sweating up a storm. A wipe to her face, and Genny can feel how unforgiving the air around was, and with it, her jacket was thrown off behind her. Her Ranger outfit, gone in lieu of a top that much more readily showed her midriff, but a lot more free than they had been.[break][break]

Come to think of it, she'd been moving the whole time... looking down, there was a Cyclizar. And Genny stares on, curious. Fast little thing. "Hey there!" She smiles, petting the lizard, as the simulation kicks it into gear.[break][break]

The volcano eruption from behind has Genny swerve, an Akira-slide as she looks at the blast. Worry on her face, she takes notice to the redhead that seemed to be riding this way, deeper into the jungle.[break][break]

"Follow!" With a pat of the side, the Cyclizar continues, Genny's hazel eyes looking back to the volcanic pursuit of the lava. Worry was on her face. Debris was flying through the air, as she calls out in front of her. "I've got your back! Gordo, clear a path!"[break][break]

The tiniest little shiny green Sandshrew flies into a ROLLOUT ball from a Pokeball, smashing into debris, smashing through bit by bit of the debris.[break][break]

Allowing Genny to go deeper into the jungle with thiss person she'd never met before.[break][break]

Well.[break][break]

This was how Genny always seemed to make friends!

A ROAR OF TIME can be heard and suddenly, you feel your surroundings fast forwarding, rewinding, pausing. Your body and Cyclizar teleport in and out of time and space before you find yourself on a cold rock outcropping.[break][break]

Before you, a Dialga stands menacingly. Its chest diamond is a blood red and orange, magmatic veins course through its body. Suddenly, it charges toward you in a frenzied state.[break][break]

"We need to go faster! It's catching up to us!" Andrea hollered at the girl behind her, but it was already too late. Despite their best efforts, one could not outpace a force of nature. The group were about to be engulfed by the grey cloud that burned everything alive, but then something happened.

The unstoppable force stopped.

None other than the legendary Dialga stood before the two trainers, though its color palette was slightly different. Before they could thank it for saving them, the Sinnohian deity of time attacked them. Andrea's two dragons rushed to shield her from the Temporal Pokémon's wrath, only to be knocked backwards by its powerful Outrage. "Regina! Fishie!" The girl cried out in worry.

Everything freezes. The moment it does, there's relief on Genny's face, sweat trickling down her face. For a moment, it's nothing... then, a ROAR OF TIME rips everything, forcing it forward, rewinding, and Genny and the Cyclizar beneath blip out of space time...[break][break]

Then, the rocky outcropping, and Genny shakes, interrupted by the coming deity Dialga, the time deity with a much different look than Genny is used to.[break][break]

And it charges them both.[break][break]

"HOLY-" Her lips open wide, her mouth agape, when the deity of time itself moves to attack the other redhead. Genny thinks as quickly on the fly as she possibly can, as Regina and Fishie are knocked backwards by the OUTRAGE. "Gordo, make a dust storm. Hey! We need to obscure its vision. Use the storm as cover!" Gordo began to tear into the rocky outcropping to cause a SANDSTORM, hopefully allowing both Regina and Fishie a momentary reprieve.[break][break]

This may only give them moments of time, but it's better than letting the big temporal deity annihilate all of them. Minimize casualties.[break][break]

Adapt. Overcome. Thinking that paxton concordas would be proud to hear from Genny... she could hope, anyways.

They say, "a specter doth roam among us. it doth don the visage of a frosty steed, its countenance clad in a mask as unyielding as jewels... 'tis known to appear upon the eve, striking fear into both folk and creatures of pokémon alike!"[break][break]

Suddenly, you can hear the sounds of hooves clopping toward the village. The townsperson shrieks and flees into a nearby home as a GLASTRIER crashes through the fencing.[break][break]

Her fellow redhead had the idea of obscuring Dialga’s vision with a Sandstorm. “Good idea! Maybe that’ll give us enough time to get outta here!” Of course, ‘time’ was subjective when facing the deity that presided over it. Freezing the temporal flow once again, the berserk god charged at the humans with a second Outrage.

And then it was gone. The two women found themselves in a quaint village somewhere in Galar, suddenly having to brace the cold with their midriffs exposed. “Brrrrr! W-where did Dialga go?” Andrea shivered, slipping back inside her onesie.

After an NPC speaking in Ye Olde Galarian gave them exposition about a frosty steed that terrorized their village, the ill-tempered horse showed up in the flesh, crashing through the protective fence and trampling their crops with its icy hooves.

Although they had been badly beat up by Dialga, Andrea’s Pokémon once again rushed to her rescue, clamping their Strong Jaws around the horse’s neck and torso respectively. “Wait, we don’t even know why it’s mad!” The girl pleaded, but it was for naught. Regina and Fishie were already going in for the kill. Literally.

The way this simulation kept throwing them and pulling them by their ankles through the slot machine was something else. One minute, they're fending off the primal deity of time. And with the charge, Genny doesn't feel ready. In a flash, she runs towards Gordo, and picks him up, ready to weather the storm. When-[break][break]

Nothing.[break][break]

No, that's not quite right. As she closed her eyes, holding her little shiny Sandshrew, one eye opens up, to find...[break][break]

This place. Again.[break][break]

It's trauma dealt with, but Genny's hazel eyes gain a level of maturity looking around. Galar, now coated by ice and snow... the memories play out. Limping through the snow. Caleb Harcourt's life dew helping her walk... but oddly, those memories feel so far and in-between. Just because it was sad, doesn't meant it couldn't be happy again.[break][break]

Galar in ice and snow is where she fell in love. Her cheeks heat up at the recent memory especially. She's quick to regain composure, when her partner here speaks, shivering. Genny didn't let the cold bother her too bad. "Good question..." she giggles, holding Gordo tighter. The red on her face never dissipates. Instead, the NPC comes in.[break][break]

And with it, the fear creeps up in a stride of icy hooves, trampling over all, and racing in. Trauma overrides reason, and Genny tosses Gordo. "Gyro Ball."[break][break]

There it was. That familiar feeling of being too far gone in a world of ice and snow.[break][break]

Only... Gordo doesn't want to hurt the horse, but tucking himself into a little Sandshrew soccer ball, spins faster and faster with intent to smack the ice horsie. Genny wasn't going to lose anyone else in ice and snow again.[break][break]

She wasn't going to lose anyone, anymore, in general.

The townspeople emerge from their homes. They herald you as heroes of Galar as the White Horse of Conquest lays in a streak of ice.

"We... killed it." The townsfolk rejoiced, but Andrea did not feel happy. This was a bittersweet victory at best.

She truly had not meant for this to happen. It was an act of self-defense, yet it still felt awful. What if this were to happen in a real battle? Nobody deserved to have their partners taken from them, not even Team Rocket. She was reminded of Josh Devlin's words in the hospital, about how easy it was to take a life. He was right. And that scared her.

"They're calling us heroes, but I feel more like a villain." The girl muttered with a downcast expression, hugging herself. "This isn't real... It's just a simulation. It isn't real." She repeated under her breath like a mantra.

There's pause. The townsfolk rejoice... but there is no joy. Happiness is what one makes it, but there is no smile on the sunshine girl's face. Just a shadow cast deeper.[break][break]

Perhaps it's all the death that surrounded Genny. Mr. Business, Lady Bloom, Ms. Clean, Dr. Rhythm, Cardi B, Hazel, Serenity, Ebony, Pet Shop... she looks at her bracelet on hand. In the pursuit to save as many people as she can, she sacrifices the few for the many. It doesn't feel good though. None of it ever did.[break][break]

A year ago, Genny would look at the world, and fight it, the idealism she fought for pure. To keep everyone safe. This war had shifted her from idealism to reality.[break][break]

When you lack the strength to protect everything, you lose the ability to get what you want.[break][break]

"..." What can she say to comfort the redhead that was nearby? "They get to live now though." She looks to the townspeople. But they aren't real. They are just a simulacrum. A bite of her lip, and she looks down. How long had she been clinching her fists to her side?[break][break]

Saving everyone isn't possible.[break][break]

Sacrifices have to be made.[break][break]

Gordo comes up, returning to his usual tiny shape, and moves up to grab her hand. The sparkle of innocence still on the Sandshrew.[break][break]

"What's your name?" dull eyes peek towards Andrea, attempting to make the best attempt at a smile.

As the redheaded ranger was consoled by her Sandshrew, so too did Regina gently boop her giant snout against her trainer in an attempt to cheer her up. The girl mustered a weak smile. "Pokémon can always tell if their trainer is sad. With everything that's happened recently, sometimes I can't help but think that we don't deserve them... Anyway, my name's Andrea." She introduced herself. "Sorry for bringing the mood down. I'll get over it, I swear."

And get over it she did, for the scenery changed yet again into that of a traditional festival filled with the sounds of merriment and laughter. There were fireworks, street performances, food stands, and various games like shooting the targets and Goldeen fishing. The main attraction, of course, were all the different masks worn by festival-goers.

"Feels like forever since the last time there was a festival in Hoenn! I've missed this so much!" Andrea mused, the light returning to her eyes as she took in the jolly sights. "Hmm, who's that?" She noticed a small child that was all alone, wearing a green kimono and a curious mask of teal color. They looked too young to be unattended.

"Hello, little one. Are you lost? Maybe we could help you out. Don't worry about Regina. She might look big and scary, but she's actually really sweet." The PokéManiac reassured the silent child, while leaning in front of them as an older sister would. "Did you come here with your parents or your guardian? We can't help you if you don't say anything, you know."
