according to the tabloids, the best place to get a christmas tree was littleroot.

[break][break] popular belief said it should have been a well-populated city like evergrande or lilycove, and some communities believed that even the likes of petalburg were popular picks, despite the blight and the efforts that one Isaac Merlo were doing to combat it. however, the truth of the matter was that it was small areas like littleroot that had the best woodland markets.

[break][break] simple, personal and most important, the highest quality. because it wasn't bogged down by tourists.

[break][break] luciano waited at the entrance to the park, rubbing his hands together as cold air puffed between them. he wore a light brown peacoat, white sweater and pants, embellished by a handsome blue scarf. he awaited for paxton concordas to show him at the appointed time, trying to fight the blush on his cheeks.

The conversation had been simple. The weather was getting colder, and he had wanted to do something Luci that perhaps his creative mind could shine through on. So when the topic of the Christmas tree set up came up, he'd been hoping for a bit more enthusiasm. All he was met with was confusion. [break][break]

'Concord, we have people for that.' he had said. Not condescendingly, but simply confused. [break][break]

And Paxton let it go, staring back just as confused at this man before smiling and nodding along. [break][break]

'Of course, Luci.' and he'd let it go. [break][break]

It was only a few hours later when Luci had brought it up again and Paxton had made a plan for it. A date. The word no sooner had it come out of his mouth had Paxton flushed a bright red. [break][break]

They'd been out together multiple times already. But those multiple times had been tense, unspoken. They'd both pushed boundaries as close as they could before stepping back from fully crossing over. There'd always been that unknown hanging in the air. [break][break]

It ramped up his nerves. How little had they really done together, as a couple before? Most of their time short and- well, they'd focused their efforts on things. But now? A date? Paxton tried to dress his best, something clean and sharp looking while still allowing him the movement he needed to help move their tree. [break][break]

He steps towards Luci in a dark green puffer jacket, and tall boots tied tightly with little cleats at the bottom for better support on the snow and ice. "Luci, have you been waiting long?" he asked, eyes on the painter before he reached up to clap his own gloves hands around Luci's. He rubs gently, offering his own worth to the man. "I've heard they have a hot cocoa bar here included in the tree price." he added, the question hanging in the air as he looked back up at his date.

many people walked swiftly by him, none of them paxton concordas . many did sneak a look at him when they thought he wasn't looking (he was always looking), likely recognizing him for who he was. but this was something that luciano was used to. it was to be expected, after all, being the fisk that he was.

[break][break] he stood at the entrance to the park, bundled up in his scarf and gloves, expression perfectly neutral — that is until he recognized a familiar blond man approach him. his eyes brightened.

[break][break] "concord," he greeted. those hands reached to clasp his own, and his cheeks warmed. from the cold, luci assured himself.

[break][break] a cheek pressed against the other, a perfectly sinnoh greeting, before he leaned back with a smile.

"Good." He tensed, holding his breath as Luci leaned in and flushing bright pink as their cheeks came together. He felt a pang of disappointment under a constant buzz of tingling embarrassment. "G-Good. Yeah. I-" he shut his mouth, blinking back to reality and swallowing hard. [break][break]

When he finally gathered his bearings and smiled to lead Luci away. "We can stock up before taking a walk. This place has a good range of sizes." he said. He knew Luci, living in the lap of luxury, had high ceilings. He doubted they could find one that touched the top, but something they- well more so, he could carry back to Luci's home to help set up. [break][break]

"Have you thought about what you want it to look like?" he asked, as they took the salted path towards the middle of the tree farm. The smell of pine wafted through along with a bit of smoke and the faintest hint of chocolate. Many groups mill around close by, from families buying their family trees, to couples sizing up smaller ones, or even older couples buying pine cones and syrup.

"size doesn't matter," he says in response, glancing down at the other, brow carefully arched. his lips barely lifted in amusement.

[break][break] the smell of pine trees and warmth filled his senses as concord let him down the salted path. in front of him, beside him, between them — there were trees all over. they may have been walking through petalburg forest.

[break][break] well, he supposed, petalburg these days were looking a bit barren.

[break][break] "how it might look?" he inquired, confusion cooling the artist's gaze. his expression was concerted, bewildered at what the other was asking him. "are not all trees the same?"

[break][break] at least, the one's that they had delivered to the fisk family home always seemed identical. perfectly the same, because there was nothing less but perfection for a fisk's home.

Paxton blushed even more fiercely under his eyes, flashing back to a completely different memory between them before pointedly looking away. "T-The...decorations? Like...some people chose a color scheme-" he stopped to clear his throat, trying to not be as awkward as he may have looked. He buries his chin into his SCARF even more before continuing. "Or the color of the lights. Things like that." he said with a small shrug. "I-It's not necessary...my tree is eclectic but...you know I was curious if you did." He opened the door, revealing a wall of warmth. Cozy fires at full force and a small buffet table with snacks as well as a very well stocked hot cocoa bar. With all kinds of syrups to mix into it, along with different candy canes and marshmallows of varying sizes and colors. [break][break]

He nods over to him. It's self serve, but he picks up a cup for Luci anyway. "What are you in the mood for?"

[break][break] it seemed a bit nonsensical, if luci thought about it. all of the fuss over a tree? it was why this type of thing was usually left better for people that were for-hire.

[break][break] but he supposed he would tolerate it, as long as he was with paxton concordas .

[break][break] "if i did?" he mused, nearly playful in his remark. "if i did what?"

[break][break] "i have never bought a tree myself," he confesses, though he knows he did not need to. he glanced at the several different trees that littered down the path, all of various sizes, small and big, thorny and not. the smell of fig and pine filled the cold winter air as they passed it on the way in. warmth and fire greets them as they step inside, and luci breathes in a sigh of relief.

Paxton blinked, looking back up at Luci nearly forgetting his train of thought as the man asked him to clarify himself again. Sometimes he forgot how lucky he was to be here. Not just alive, but on a date with luciano fisk . [break][break]

He's not surprised Luciano hasn't bought a tree. That sounded like an errand someone on staff did and not...a family occasion unlike the way it was for Paxton. Even if he didn't buy trees anymore. "I think I'll just give you exactly what you want." he replied, keeping himself moving so he wouldn't just stop and stare, moon eyed at thee sculptor. [break][break]

He set to work picking a dark chocolate blend and a bit of milk, using a spare milk frother to mix the hot concoction as he let Luci get warm. He made himself a similar blend, taking the cups and sprinkling in a smidge of cayenne pepper to give it a bit of a spicy twist. Once he's done, he pocket a small plastic bag of madeleine cookies, and brought lucky his cup with some napkins. [break][break]

"Careful, it's hot." he murmured, leaning close to the man's ear before nodding back at the exit, ready to get back out into the winter weather. He'd already had a taste of his own and the spice was already starting to kick in, making him sweat.

concord doesn't explain, but luci realizes that he doesn't need him to. the train of events that would follow the rest of the day would speak for themselves, and in the meantime, he would indulge in the other's presence, just as much as he was about to indulge in the decandant drink that would be provided for him.

[break][break] as concord sets to work, luci appraises him.

[break][break] but not in the way that he had appraised a fellow sculptor, or not even the way he used to appraise michalis when he had taught him or any of his other students. no, concord had long ago graduated into something... more.

[break][break] luci appraised him in the way that one of his fans might one of his paintings. with a keen, observing eye, with a mild sense of desire. it was the kind of way that you looked at a beautiful thing — adoring, lovely, and all too keen on drinking in all that he could while he was able.

[break][break] "ah, thank you." he takes the offered mug, ignoring the pleasant shiver down his spine as paxton concordas's warm voice rolls over him and blows softly on the hot chocolate. he follows a bit more slowly, sipping at the heated drink as they step back out into the cold weather.

[break][break] the artist makes a pleased sound, something half-way between a moan and rumble of appreciation.

[break][break] he smiles, once again, cheeks red from the cup's steam.

"Next time you come over, I'll make you the same again." he promised, as he Sipped his cocoa with care, quietly trying to get Luciano to agree to visit him again. "We can dip the madeleines in." he said smoothly assuring he had the purest of intentions. But he doubted Luci was convinced. [break][break]

He takes the lead again, the smell of pine enveloping them as the moved through aisles of trees that seems to grow taller and taller. "Now we go find something a bit shorter than your ceilings and...chop." He looked up at Luci. "Or well, I ask someone to get it for us and then help haul it back." it was a pretty simple task, but the experience was in the visit. The cocoa, the vastness of the farm, the various paths leading to different clearings full of little snow sculpture of statues to just enjoy the farm and the smell of it all. [break][break]

"We could also take a wreath for the front door, and some garlands." Which is what Paxton would be taking home to make the smell of pine inside his little apartment last longer. [break][break]

"Or a hay ride around their vistas? This farm borders it's own lake." he added.

it's an act that paxton concordas does not need to partake in.

Despite not being slick at all, he smiled into his drink anyway. The tips of his ears were the only sign he was embarrassed as they turned a brighter red that made it hard to blame on the cold. He's not sure what he liked more. Luci and his nickname, or the fact that he agreed to come home. To his home. An upgrade to Lilycove for sure but...his home. There's a flash Luci in his mind, kneeling down, undressing him, staring him down- [break][break]

He closed his eyes to banish the thought. Now was not the time. [break][break]

Paxton snickered at the sculptor's reactions. Of course he knew better than to imply Luci would lift a finger. Paxton would gladly do it all if he had to. And maybe, if he was feeling brave, ask for something in exchange for all the effort. [break][break]

It's lost in this sort of warm planning and idle chat that he is slow to react. Then again, he's always slow around luciano fisk . The world would practically stop when he saw him. He's forced forward, grunting and holding away his cocoa so anything that flew out didn't spill on him or his date. "Luci?" [break][break]

The question made him freeze. His breathing stopped, his muscles taught. "Not on my hand." [break][break]

Because he didn't have the guts to ask this Luci, the real Luci for his hand.

The memories of the dream that were GOODBYE GALAR are fuzzy and barely there. He4 can't even remember his daughter's face. But he remembered Luci, a man he wouldn't be able to forget no matter how many false life times cloud his mind. [break][break]

[break][break] who the hell cared if it was on his hand? luciano's fingers tightened around the silver, pulling concordas closer to him, eyes burning blue fire.

[break][break] "i don't care if it's not on your hand."

[break][break] his voice as cool as steel.

[break][break] it's only the touch on his elbow that stirs him out of the hold, realizing that they are in public and that it is not proper - not at all - to be treating his concord this way. jealousy burns in his gut but he pushes it down, relinquishing his hold and then quickly walking away. he strays further away from the path, waiting until they are hidden by fig and cedar before turning on him.

He had meant to talk to Luci about this when he came back, but they hadn't. He hadn't had time with him, not fully. He'd missed him. He'd been so relieved it was all a dream. He hadn't done something stupid in this life. Now? He should've told him the day he got back. Luci realized they were out in the open and tears away, but Paxton can sense he's still upset. [break][break]

He followed him dutifully, carefully moving around until they were hidden in the trees and their voices wouldn't carry as well. "Luci." he began, eyebrows furrowing together in worry. "A...a few months ago I was responding to a crisis with a select few others involving the Ruination Beasts and the Hero Dogs. We were all sucked in?? to these artifacts and had a joint hallucination over the span of 20 years." [break][break]

"I-...I don't remember much from that dream, we woke up a few hours later together. But after this huge dream battle we woke up, fine and some of us had these trinkets." he gestured at the ring. [break][break]

"Mine...was on my finger." He admitted. "I didn't- I- I couldn't throw it away Luci." he added, dipping his head in apology. "I had to keep it. I carry it with me. I get...anxious without it."
