Suddenly, a sirens ring behind you. For whatever reason, the law is after you. And they are after you on Genesect. They fire TECHNO BLASTS toward you as you jet past cars and augmented passersby.[break][break]

Where the winter holidays might promise packages and bags of gifts for most, for Rocket it only offered the confusion of alternate worlds in the RKS machine. Was it visions of the past? Of the future? Of other worlds? Tempest didn't have any answers.[break][break]

Still, he looked to Cillian Quinn and so glad he wasn't doing this on his own.[break][break]

The scene shifts, as it always does, and they are in the middle of a high speed chase.[break][break]

Tempest clings to Cillian, who has been made the driver (thankfully). Tempest hisses as Techo Blasts fill the air, one almost singing the tip of his ear in a near miss.[break][break]

"Fuck!" He cries over the rushing wind, then points forward.[break][break]

"I think I see a way through!"

Cillian dreads this. Each trip through the simulation is another chance for it to play upon his subconscious mind, to show him things he wasn't ready to see. Their skirmish with the League over resurfaced treasures had offered a brief and welcome respite.[break][break]

Yet in the aftermath, they are offered new avenues, and he is expected to take them. At least he won't be alone.[break][break]

A TECHNO BLAST sears past them, so close that he can feel its heat. His heart hammers in his throat, fingers tightening around the handlebars as he veers left. He's about to pull into the network of alleyways when his husband indicates the busy on-ramp.[break][break]

"The highway?" Traffic and wind snatches at his voice, forcing him to raise it. It seems an unlikely place to lose their pursuers, but... "All right. I trust you."[break][break]

He leans forward, the added pressure encouraging the Cyclizar to pick up speed as it changes course.

One robot stands out above the rest. A juggernaut of metal on tank-like treads begins to fire all kinds of attacks from its arsenal, targeting both you and Genesect alike.[break][break]

The chase escalates.[break][break]

They cut in front of a truck, causing it to veer and tip. The back opens and shatters at once, crumpling as dozens of mechanical pokemon spill out. Some of them limp, broken from the impact, while others flee to try and escape the busy intersection.[break][break]

A flurry of moves is shot from one, which Tempest catches the briefest of glimpses of. A massive thing, it knocks a chasing Genesect out of the sky and turns it into a flaming heap of metal.[break][break]

A rocket launcher is aimed at him and Cillian Quinn.[break][break]

But the plane shifts as it launches.[break][break]

"What the fuck?"

He hates the simulation. Yet the spike of adrenaline in his virtual veins offers a high every bit as intense as reality, and Cillian's dizzy with the onset of euphoria. He should be terrfied. He is terrified.[break][break]

But he's also having the time of his life.[break][break]

Until a transport crashes in their path. Under Cillian's direction, the Cyclizar veers sharply to the left to avoid the wreck. But they've not avoided danger. As Cillian glances over his shoulder to keep an eye on their Genesect-riding pursuers, he sees a far more towering threat.

"The hell is that?"

There's some small comfort in the fact that it seems just as hell-bent on destroying the Genesect as it is on ending their lives. Though Cillian is primarily a fighter, facing off against the unknown is only worth it if there's no other option. And in the road ahead, Cillian sees their Plan B.

"Hang on!" he yells. "I'm getting us out of here!"

A flash of white as the bike breaks into white particles from under them. But momentum is kept, sending them crashing into the next scene with force. Tempest hits the soft ground, rolling in the grass with a startled cry as he's smeared with mud. A few scrapes from the rocks but nothing else, thankfully, when he rights himself.[break][break]

The Eternatus catches his eye first.[break][break]

Tempest clicks his teeth shut and grits when he takes in the scenery.[break][break]

The after image of an old life, of a fake one filled with so much love and loss, flickers in his mind as he takes in the world around them. This isn't Circhester, the constant snowdrifts are absent along with the biting chill. But it's enough.[break][break]

He groans and pushes himself up, looking for Cillian Quinn now.[break][break]

"Cil?"[break][break]

As expected, he isn't far away, and Tempest makes his way over with aching steps. When he leans against a stone to catch his breath, rusted metal bites through his skin.[break][break]

A sword and shield encrusted into the weathered rock. Temp frowns at them before reaching for the sword, working to jerk it free. With the Dynamax pokemon in the distance, they might need a weapon if they're here for long.

Cillian impacts the ground at an awkward angle, having barely enough time to adjust his arms to protect his face as they're sent sprawling into the next scene. It hurts, but he finds himself more annoyed than anything as he gets to his feet covered in blood and muck.[break][break]

At least this wasn't real, but it felt real enough in the moment.[break][break]

His husband's voice draws his attention, and he calls back, "Over here!"[break][break]

Golden eyes trace the path of Eternatus through the skies, but the awful creature hasn't noticed them yet. Like Temp, his attention locks immediately onto the sword. They'd need a way to defend themselves.[break][break]

"Is this gonna be some kind of Excalibur thing? Only the worthy can lift the sword, or some bullshit?" He scoffs, wrapping his hand around the hilt and giving it a firm tug.

Absorbing the nearby metals strewn across the battlefield, the Zacian ascends to its regal form. As the Fairy King's Sword, the gilded Zacian beckons for you to fight alongside it.[break][break]

Ahead, Dynamax Pokemon stomp across Galar like bloodthirsty titans. Eternatus continues to soar, unhindered.

It slides free. Perhaps it is as the old legends says; perhaps they are Kings. Or, it could be something else.[break][break]

Either way, rock cracks and falls. A ragged blue dog stands before them.[break][break]

"It's one of the dogs from the ruins." The ones that had been fighting the beasts, the ones who had seen their memories for twenty long years in another world.[break][break]

Tempest frowns and shudders, the old aches of Kinghood falling onto his shoulders like a worn and weathered blanket in a snowstorm. He stands a little taller, holds his head a little higher as he meets the canine's eyes.[break][break]

This was just a memory. It wasn't real.[break][break]

Yet...[break][break]

"Should we give it up?" Glancing at Cillian Quinn, his fellow king, he takes his council.

Cillian grips the sword tighter as an eerie howl echoes from the rock. He braces into a fighting stance, his posture a little out of practice; he'd always preferred to fight with his claws, rather than a sword, but he'd still taken the lessons offered in that old, lingering memory. It's faded over time, but the sight of the canine statue brings colour back to its greying edges.[break][break]

A glance is exchanged with Temp, his husband's spoken question echoed in Cillian's gaze.[break][break]

"They fought with us in Galar."[break][break]

He doesn't like the idea of being undefended, weaponless. But the canine was a weapon in and of itself. He was not so suspicious of legends as Tempest Quinn, knowing through Lugia that not all were unkind.[break][break]

Adjusting his grip, he presents the sword to its master.[break][break]

The fey wolf plunges toward the Eternatus, and Cillian calls Lugia to follow. Like in memory, she transforms with the influence of the DYNAMAX BAND, her way cry echoing over the field of battle.[break][break]

THUNDER strikes as the simulation shifts.

Nodding, Tempest takes up his role of King and protector once more with Cillian Quinn. Even if only in spirit.[break][break]

But soon the thunder of war fades into the din of battle. People, scientists, that Tempest doesn't know splatter into bloodied pulps between stone. Their life is spilled over the walls and in large splotches on Tempest's shirt, soaking uncomfortable and hot into the fabric.[break][break]

"Over here!" He calls to his husband, finding a large stone relief of some sort, overturned, for them to kneel behind and hide.[break][break]

"God, isn't this one of those things howard slayte has?" Tempest thinks of Regice.
