To say Madeline was jumpy would be an understatement. Sure, she’d checked behind her a dozen times on the way here to make sure nobody was following her. In the sky, her Crobat circled. Its keen eyes swept across the forest around them, looking out for movement. As she crested the next hill, the redhead took a deep breath.

This anxiety stuff wasn’t really her, and she didn’t exactly know how to deal with it. Sure, she knew she could count to ten or whatever, but she doubted that would help for now. And, it wasn’t like she could just ignore her surroundings as she approached 100. So, instead, the ginger tried to convince it away. Look, it’s just a chat. A simple statement of fact that—as most people with anxiety know—did jack all.

In front of her is a small clearing. A few faded red benches and tables are visible from here. “Well—” SHe turns to face the Obstagoon next to her. She’s fully prepared to get her ass slapped in irons. And, maybe, she deserves it. “--let’s get this over with.” Even his blinding smile is more subdued. At some point, there’d been a little shop out here. An old Yuletide tree farm or something. The pine trees are still crowding the tiny shack.

Adjusting the hoody for the fifth time, the masked woman steps into the clearing. A twig snaps behind her. She jumps. ”You there?” The act vanishes. Her voice isn’t the gruff one she often forces. It’s soft, and cultured with a detectable Galarian accent. “Mister Morales?”

Despite the work that he and freya morningstar were doing on the Amnesty Program as of late, it still continued to be an issue. But Ollie was determined to continue it. It was his job, after all, as Head Ranger.

She figured knowing it was the guy she came to see would have the opposite effect. That she’d sigh in relief and the pounding in her chest would drop to a hum. But, if anything, things got worse. That relieved noise clogged her throat like a tub’s stopper, refusing to go up or down. A hand rose in silent greeting as the redhead offered a stilted nod.

She waited a moment to see who was joining him. Madd was surprised when nobody did. Is this guy stupid?

Though not much shorter than Ollie, she didn’t feel like it. Defensively, she crossed her arms across her chest. Behind the mask, she forced on her best tough-guy expression. Which wasn’t actually visible. Still, maybe part of that distrust came across. Don’t act like this shit is going to be free, Stuff like this always comes at a cost. Probably want her to sell out her friends out like some snake.

Still, that warmth seemed pretty authentic. She didn’t see anything shift in his eyes. And, no one jumped out the bushes with sniper rifles. “Yeah.” The woman admitted with a nod. “That’s me.”

With a final glance at the bushes—as if she would see Cillian Quinn hiding there—the ginger followed Ollie. Her thick boots leave imprints in the loose dirt around them. “Sure.” A backward thumb jerked toward her Obstagoon. “You mind the muscle tagging along?”

A rush of relieved air clouds the front of her mask. For a second, it feels like a sauna. “Thanks.” Madd would feel a lot more comfortable with the Obstagoon around. Sure, Smiles here could probably crush them like ants, but she wouldn’t die alone.

Obedient to his trainer’s beckoning, Yakuza rushes to catch up. His tongue occasionally flicks out his teeth, like a weirdly muscular badger dog with its head out the window. She had no idea where that habit had come from—or why he thought it made him run faster—but the redhead didn’t intend to correct it.

Soon enough, Yakuza was walking alongside them. On closer inspection, it seems he’s as nervous as his trainer. Bright red eyes flick often to her face and the mask. You good? Those gritted glances seem to say.

“I heard—” Arceus, it felt weird to say that. She’d never been the gossiping type. She preferred to ask people shit directly and not take information secondhand. “Your side’s giving Rocket’s a clean slate.” Just admitting that’s what she is making her heart pound.

Muscular arms cross across her chest. She’s basically giving herself a hug. “I want to know how that works.” And just how many pounds of flesh it’d take.

Probably around 215. That was how much @teddy’s brother weighed.
