Here was another familiar face standing right across from him. After their first encounter together, he wondered if they would ever meet again. Although Kyle had told him he was an officer for the League, Noel couldn't help that there was something more that he was hiding from him. No matter, after this match was over he'd learn more about him. No person would have Pokemon that strong and be just a normal citizen. His Shaymin leaps out from behind him and growls lowly at its challenger, a fierce look in its eyes.[break][break]

"I never thought I'd see you again Kyle. I'm glad I can fight against you here though, I wanted to see just how strong you are."[break][break]

"average," he'd answer bluntly, but in jest. "it's surprisingly difficult to be the undisputed top trainer around these parts."

he may have the title of top champion, but he always sees trainers who does similar things with him. the kicker is that they're also talented in other things besides doing well on stage.

"we're here to have fun though. let's worry about that instead of comparing power levels."

the poochyena pops out of its ball from kyle's hip, releasing the pokemon since it just recovered from one of the healing machines dotted around the venue.

it barks at noel as a greeting. the same bashfulness that kyle felt from having been insinuated as strong flows through his pokemon with the syncing made possible by his sygna suit.

While fun was definitely there to be had, Noel's competitiveness couldn't help but cause him to use this as an opportunity to assess just how capable Kyle was. While the Poochyena surprised him at first, Noel knew first hand that it wasn't about what was on the outside that constituted strength. Such was the case with his Shaymin, while tiny it was, it could pack a punch heavier than any other Pokemon in the right situation. [break][break]

"Heh, of course. I might've gotten a little ahead of myself there. First and foremost let's make this a good match. Now here we go!"[break][break]

With the start of the round, Noel's Pokemon begins to sprint forward, wanting to start things off with close quarters combat. Leaping across the field on its small legs, it would jump headfirst against the Poochyena with a Zen Headbutt aimed towards its body.

one thing kyle has to remind himself is that the augmented reality from the vital gear doesn't take into account normal conventions of moves, spinning conventional rules of pokemon battles into a new game altogether.

the shaymin's zen headbutt registers to the system as an actual possible hit for the poochyena as long as the move is executed. he supposed there still was the physical aspect of it regardless of typing.

"let's match it, kilo!"

the poochyena meets the shaymin in the middle, rushing towards it with its own headbutt in a form of a dragon hammer. it lowers its head as it charges, ready to flip the shaymin with an upward strike.

Unready for its headbutt to be matched with a similar move, the two of them bump into each straight on but with the Poochyena as the clear winner of the contest. The Shaymin recoils back hurt and stumbling before suddenly being flipped up into the air from the continuation of the small dog's attack. While they were of similar size, Kyle's Pokemon was stronger physically than Noel's, he would just have to match it with strategy instead. Returning to its senses, it would use the air to its advantage as it began to fire off multiple Energy Balls from up above.[break][break]

using the momentum of the blow to their advantage, kyle smiles at the development.

"prepare for its landing."

unable to strike the target, or rather, difficult to do with a pokemon with limited options like his poochyena, the dark-type tries its best to dodge the attack, albeit to questionable success.

it bunkers down to the best of its abilities, preparing for a delayed attack with future sight as soon as the shaymin drops to the ground.

As the Shaymin is able to land back on its feet and safe on the ground, a moment of silence is shared between the two Pokemon. Neither of them wanting to make the next move and hoping to react to whatever may follow next. Yet this proved to be Noel's downfall as suddenly the small hedgehog is wracked with pain from seemingly out of nowhere. Whatever move the Poochyena had snuck in had done its work and now the Shaymin was left on its last legs, if it wasn't careful, this next move would be their last.[break][break]

"Rrrgh... It's not over yet! Show them just what you're made of Shaymin!"[break][break]

Harnessing more power than it even had in its body, the tiny creature would shout out a battle cry before firing off a massive Solar Beam to even out the playing field. It would tear apart the earth itself as it voyaged across the arena in order to hopefully strike against the puppy.

an attack from a sketchy position might be easy to handle, but a full-blown move launched with stable footing was bound to hit harder than the earlier moves.

"well, this might be tricky."

the poochyena attempts to dive into the ground with its shadow sneak and close the distance that way, but as he gets closer, the attack manages to manifest and the light from the move pushes the pokemon out of the shadows.

claws dig deep into the ground as it endures the move, ready to lunge at any time now that the distance has been properly closed once again.

Preoccupied with launching its attack, the Shaymin doesn't notice the small dog hiding away through the shadows and coming up from beneath it. While the attack managed to keep some distance away, ultimately the Poochyena is able to stand its ground and keep close.[break][break]

"All right keep at it... If we can keep this up victory is surely in sight."[break][break]

With the end drawing near, the hedgehog would try and tip the scales with one more attack. With its whole body radiating a green energy, it would whip up wavy projectiles that shot out at each and every direction in an attempt to keep the dog away at bay. If it could last just a little longer, then there was hope left still for the pair.

kyle smiles awkwardly at the situation. it's usually when the tables have turned that it becomes easier for the underdog to continue winning.

sometimes, it's psychological from the other side's point of view. sometimes, it's panic that settles in from the side that had the upper hand once their advantage gets closer.

"just one clean hit, kilo," he tells his poochyena. "they finally warmed up. we can still win from the point system, i think."

despite being shaken from the hit from the shaymin, the poochyena resolves itself for a mad dash for the another swipe.

the tournament had these vital gears provided to them by the sponsor that automatically rewards points depending on their pokemon's vitals. they may lose a drawn out fight, but the system gives out points whether or not pokemon on the field can still fight.

shadow sneak continues to be used by the poochyena to reach for that goal, forgoing grace of agility for an attempt to brute force a strike on the shaymin.

All it took was one last hit for everything to end. Noel and his Shaymin couldn't afford to risk any more losses, they had to turn everything back now or lose everything. Yet despite their best attempts to hold out, a surprise attack was the least of their expectations. So focused on only what was ahead of them, neither of them saw the shadowy strike come from behind. Their vital gears go abuzz, signaling that the match had indeed concluded.[break][break]

Letting out a sigh in disbelief, if they had just a bit more time surely they could have brought this back. But alas, such were the rules of the tournament, and no one likes a sore loser. Letting out a smile as he returned his Shaymin back to its Pokeball, he would walk up to Kyle and congratulate him.[break][break]

"You got me. Looks like I've got a lot to learn still if I'm going to be going up against people like you. You earned this victory. This won't be how things turn out next time though. Losing twice to you isn't something I'll accept."[break][break]

he seems earnest enough, kyle deduces from this brief interaction. if he wishes to, kyle was sure they'll have a rematch on a bigger stage some day.

he holds out his hand for a handshake.

"we only won due to technicality this time." he looks at his poochyena, who seems convinced that it wasn't. "i'm sure next time will be different."

kyle has other tricks up his sleeve outside of those he displayed in this fight, and he's sure noel does as well. if a rematch was going to happen, this fight couldn't be used as reference to prepare.
