“Yo, Gen!” Lam cups his hands around his mouth as he calls over to the redhead. “You ready to throw down??”[break][break]

The taunt is all in good fun, of course. Easily obvious by the way his toothy grin is revealed as he drops his hands and takes his place across from her. His trusty pidove is released—dragon terastralization quickly activated as she settles on the ground and idly pecks at the earth in front of her for a moment.[break][break]

“We’ll call this practice for when you challenge the gym here, yeah?” His gym, obviously! For now, they’ll have to settle for the friendly tourney match.

Third bestie she had to fight so far, what a great time for it too. Gordo was practically over the moon, getting so much quality time with Genny, and the way he spins into the stadium to kick up dirt only made it better.[break][break]

With a flash of her own Dynamax Bracelet freshly gotten, she lets Gordo fly outwards as a massive giant armadillo. Ready to go, the little baby now very tall.[break][break]

“I’ll hold ya to that!” A shame that they couldn’t battle together, but that would defeat the whole purpose of challenging his gym, wouldn’t it?[break][break]

His brows rise as Genny dons the dynamax bracelet. “Lucky duck!” There’s a slight huff to his voice, a mix of both teasing and jealousy. “I haven’t even managed to get my hands on one of those yet.”[break][break]

His pidove looks like a speck next to the sandshrew once it swells up to a massive size. Uncertainly, she tweets her skepticism. But they’ll still go for the big swings![break][break]
“You heard her, Pops!” Lam calls out, “Better start out by packing that punch before it tries to stomp ya!” Pops stretches her wings and shoots upward, draconic energy charging around her.[break][break]

She doesn’t make contact until she reaches the top, swinging her whole body like a DRAGON HAMMER right at the sandshrew’s forehead.

With a fist upwards, as soon as Gordo expands in mass, the green Sandshrew mews out, at the coming of the king's hammer. The DRAGON HAMMER, a powerful strike that pushes Gordo back an inch. Genny and Gordo though? Unperturbed, at least. It looked that way.[break][break]

Thankful for the stamina increase from DYNAMAX, Genny points towards the Pidove. "Make those rocks fall, Gordo!" And wouldn't she know it, Gordo was already on it with that MAX ROCKFALL coming down with the relative force as it could, kicking up that sandstorm.[break][break]

Oh yeah, this tactic was doing well in the tourney so far.[break][break]

Lam lets out a whoop as Poppy makes impact, smacking Gordo right in the nogging. It was impressive she managed to set him back a step, at that size.[break][break]

“Obscure yourself, Pops!” he calls up to the little bird as she tries to dodge the flurry of massive, falling rocks, “make yourself harder to find!” Sand kicks up around her, slowing her flight.[break][break]

The pidove chirps, disappearing into the long shadow the sandshrew casts, only to reappear behind Rocko and knock him again on the back of his bright green head (SHADOW SNEAK.)

Wowee, Lammy certainly knew how to use his birds, as the moment that DRAGON HAMMER hits on the noggin, Gordo was dizzied by the sheer force of impact. Once the bird disappears into that flurry of rocks, Gordo would turn their big head.[break][break]

Flying types wouldn't worry about Ground moves, so all that matters, is "Dodge and spike!" The armadillo, hearing his trainer, slams one fist into the ground, as the head would lower, hopefully able to get the mix-up with a MAX STEELSPIKE back to the birdy buddy![break][break]

The giant spike erupted from the earth, hurtling up at the pidove. She chirps in alarm, trying to flap out of the way. Though it doesn’t stab at her body, it clips her wing— sending her in a spiral.[break][break]

“Use the spin out to your advantage!” Lam calls up to Pops, hands cupping around his mouth. As she careens, gusts of wind build under her wings, the AIR SLASHES bursting outward toward the sandshrew’s belly as her body twisted toward him.[break][break]

Finally able to tilt herself, her flight levels out as the pidove arcs around the dynamaxed Pokémon.

What was this bird made of, a jet turbine?! Gordo was getting frustrated! So much so, that the armadillo makes one screm upwards, intent to make the MAX ROCKFALL that came after enough to clip the Pidove's wings, if only stopped by Genny below.[break][break]

"Shake it off buddy, Pops can't handle what we got!" Genny's cheer cools the massive armadillo down![break][break]

With a bit enlarged nod from above, the armadillo conjures up the rocks, and attempts to, if nothing else, knock it into a barrel roll. Gordo's gotta make up that time! Only for Gordo's body to shrink compulsively and suddenly! Dynamax time? OVER.[break][break]

Honestly? Poppy really might’ve been built on jet turbine. By far the biggest and sturdiest of all his pidove flock, she could hold her own against even the evolved unfeazant that lived in the shared bird hutch.[break][break]
But that’s what made her so good for training! She’s not a perfect dodger, though, and one of the falling rocks finally catches her, driving her to spin down to the ground with a squawk.[break][break]
“Okay Pops! He’s back to your size, don’t lose momentum now!” he cheers on the bird as she pulls herself back up and shakes out dusty rubble from her feathers. She tweets, popping back up into the air. Said feathers begin to glow with the intake of energy as she braces herself to plummet back down toward the sandshrew.[break][break]
Charging up as much as she can of an impending SKY ATTACK. She just had to hold out and stick the landing!

Now the size of a smol armadillo, Gordo would find himself in the direct line of fire for the SKY ATTACK. In a moment of momentary fear, quickly it clicks. This was the perfect time for it.[break][break]

One hand out, as Pops would take that energy in, to stick the landing, and Genny calls out. "Spin dash!" With it, as Gordo hits the arena ground, he begins to rev up, balling up before dribbling like one, to smack into the Pidove with a SAND RUSH POWERED ROLLOUT.[break][break]

If nothing else? Even taking that attack dead on, Genny was confident Gordo would get the surprise.[break][break]

“Yikes! Watch out!” Maybe it was the lack of sheer size, but the little sandshrew was quick. Curled up, the heavy, spinning roll of its armored body smacked into the pidove before she could fly up out of reach.[break][break]
A small cloud of sand and feathers kicked up around them, and then Pops was sent tumbling. An indignant chirp rose up as her taloned feet pull her back upright. “Hit back! Hammer time, take two!” [break][break]
The terastalized bird shook herself and then surged forward again, once more ramping up to smack Gordo with a second bout of DRAGON HAMMER.

Watching Gordo able to smack Pops out of the air, the small armadillo was able to make one helluva slapshot. But, even as the small cloud of sand and feathers kicks up, with the chirping from Pops, Genny could hear Lam's attack.[break][break]

"Match the hammer's speed with the immovable object!" And as per ordered, Gordo gains a sheen of steel on the green, as he hops up, intending to use all of Pop's speed against her.[break][break]

GYRO BALL and physics. Hopefully, Gordo was fast enough to get her down. He didn't have much stamina left in him.[break][break]

They’d started strong, but clearly Pops got a bit of a big head over it. Because when Gordo swung back, she just couldn’t seem to keep up.[break][break]
The sandshrew matches her attacks and then punches back. That GYRO BALL catches her, and the pidove goes down in a feathery heap. She flutters back up, the Vital Gear pings to signal their defeat.[break][break]
“Dang, Gen!” he hoots as his pidove is recalled in a beam of light. “You really gave me a run for my money, there!” There’s a grin on his face, though—obviously pleased that she’d done so well rather than disappointed over his loss.[break][break]
Lam jogs across the pitch, offering her the ever-familiar fist bump. “Great job—this lil guy packs a punch.” He peers down at Gordo and then looks back at her. “If this is the game you’re gonna be bringing to my gym, I can’t wait!”
