Yumi breathed deeply of the crisp winter air. Though it wasn't her favorite season, she knew a walk to stretch her legs was better than staying cooped up indoors. [break][break]

It was this need for exercise that brought her to the Safari Zone. After purchasing a premium ticket and arming herself with Safari Balls, she released her Gothitelle, Kuroyuri. [break][break]

"Come, let's see what wild Pokémon we can meet today," Yumi said, gesturing for the Psychic-type to follow.

Snow crunched beneath Yumi's boots as she led her Gothitelle down one of the easier trails, which snaked alongside a stream that babbled in other seasons. Winter saw it frozen, however, and Yumi bit back a laugh when she saw a solitary Tatsugiri attempting to break through the ice. [break][break]

"Kuroyuri, use HYPNOSIS on that poor thing," she told her Pokémon. "We'll take him home with us." [break][break]

The Gothitelle obliged, using her psychic powers to lull the Tatsugiri to sleep. Afterward, Yumi tossed a Pokéball to capture it.

After collecting the Safari Ball with the captured Tatsugiri inside, Yumi continued down the path. It led away from the river, through a grove of skeletal trees. Their naked branches raked at the sky as a gust of chill wind blew through the area. [break][break]

A hive of Combee came to life, disturbed by the breeze. One drew close, but it quickly zipped away, returning to the warmth of the swarm. [break][break]

Yumi wrapped her scarf more tightly around her neck and strode on.

The woodland trail led to a large pond, the surface of which had not frozen over. As Yumi approached, she slowed her pace and scanned the area of any wild Pokémon. A flash of red beneath the water's placid surface caught her eye: Magikarp. [break][break]

She had no interest in the fish, however. After a brief pause to look for other Pokémon and finding none, she continued on. Her Gothitelle matched her pace with ease. [break][break]

"I want to check out that little field," Yumi told Kuroyuri, pointing ahead of them as they passed through a copse of trees. "Usually there are Pokémon playing there in the warmer seasons." [break][break]

The Gothitelle murmured something in her language and dutifully followed.

As she expected, Yumi found a small group of wild Charmander huddled together for warmth in the field. They looked up at the sound of her and Kuroyuri's approach, then promptly began to scatter. [break][break]

One Charmander, however, was slower than his companions. He stumbled as Kuroyuri hit him with PSYCHIC to further slow him down. [break][break]

Stepping up to the fallen Charmander, Yumi tossed a Safari Ball to capture him.

After collecting the Safari Ball with her new Charmander, Yumi returned to the trail and proceeded down a different branch in the path. [break][break]

"What do you say to stopping by a tea house after this for something warm?" she asked her Gothitelle as they walked. Kuroyuri gave a graceful nod of her head, her hands clasped together in front of her. [break][break]

The pair eventually reached a rocky area populated with Bronzor. Thankfully, the trail remained smooth there. Yumi continued on, ignoring the wild Pokémon as they hovered around in peace.

As Yumi and Kuroyuri followed a bend in the woodland trail that led back to the entrance of the Safari Zone, a curious Pokémon crossed their path. The woman had only heard of it before. [break][break]

"Look! A Poltchageist!" she whispered to her Gothitelle. "Grab it for me, will you?" [break][break]

Kuroyuri approached cautiously so as not to spook the wild Pokémon. Then she blasted it with DARK PULSE, knocking it to the ground. Immediately, Yumi threw a Pokéball.
