Lucia stood at the entrance to a ranch near the midsection of Route 104 that had asked any nearby trainers for assistance in protecting their livestock. She wasn't too aware of what pokemon may be lurking in the shadows trying to capture them, but she was going to make sure none of them got away.

The young trainer quietly awaited the arrival of her partner, as the mission listing had said that an additional person had come to lend a helping hand in keeping an eye on the Wooloo. They had quite some time before the sun would set and Lucia found herself entertained by others matters on her phone.

Checking HNN articles for news, scrolling through social media or putting on an album by Desiree and just allowing herself to phase out of reality for a bit as she waited on the porch of the property. The Wooloo in question went about their busy day of grazing and rolling around the fields for Lucia to see.

Eventually, it had reached the evening time. The sun hung low in the sky and everyone was making final preparations for the Wooloo to spend the night in the field. Lucia was happy to wait however long it took. She helped feed some of the sheep pokemon and looked up at the dirt path near the entrance of the ranch every so often.

His sister had been none too pleased when he had told her he would be taking a mission that would take place after the sun went down. It was the way she was acting when he ended up doing stuff away from home when it was nighttime. He didn’t blame her. After all, Hoenn could be a dangerous place. But that didn’t mean he liked it. After all, he was confident in his abilities as a trainer to protect himself.

It was his sister's reluctance to allow him to go on a mission so late that had caused him to be running late. Well, late for him. Usually, he liked arriving at a destination early, giving him time to scope out the place. But if he were to look at the time, he would see he would get to his destination right at the appointed time.

Since the ranch was near Petalburg, he had taken to flying Mistral to Petalburg. Once there, he would return the Swellow to her Pokéball before making the rest of the journey on foot, which wasn’t far. As he walked, he had been tempted to release Mirage from his Pokéball but wasn’t too sure the farmer who had assigned the mission would be happy about a Hisuian Zoroark being loose on their ranch. Then there was their mission partner to think about.

Walking through the ranch's gate, his gaze immediately scanned the area around him. Upon doing this, he would spot a girl around his own age. Maybe a few years younger. Considering the other workers were adults, he figured she was his partner for the mission, so he made his way over to her.

“Hello, are you my partner for this mission? My name is Absalom, but Axel works just as well,” he told, while holding his hand out for a handshake. He wasn’t aware his mission partner would be another kid. Something that made him a bit nervous.

The girl jumped at the sudden arrival of her partner, having been too caught up inside of tending to the Wooloo. She took a moment to gather her apprehension in her heart and turned around to face the other boy. He was slightly older than herself, maybe a few years older. His hair was white and reminded her of some of the mountain tops back home in Paldea some. [break][break]

She remained quiet, chewing the inside of her cheek as he greeted her and reached for her own Pokeballs to throw out. Her Dunsparce flopped out onto the grass and snaked around behind her for cover from the new person, while the Tinkatink and Wooper were quick to greet the other trainer. [break][break]

The Banette, still in its hiding spot of her bag, would sense his trainer's distress and quickly get to work. Glowing with a dark energy, it phased from the backpack inside of her to usurp control. Lucia's form stiffened for a bit until she had enough courage to come face to face with the boy, her red eyes scanning over him.[break][break]

"Axel." she spoke in a cold, stoic tone while trying to commit it to memory. "Nice to meet you. I'm Lucia." [break][break]

The sun had fully gone down as she ordered her team around the perimeter and to keep an eye on things around the property. The sound of wind rustling the trees away was the only backdrop to their conversation. From afar, the Wooper had busied himself digging a hole and creating a trench for the predators to fall in. [break][break]

The Dunsparce, meanwhile, stuck to the taller grass and tried to blend in as best he could. He was obviously a bit on edge and rattled a bit during his patrol around. The Tinkatin stuck by Lucia while she continued to hang near Axel. [break][break]

"How long have you been here?" she asked, keeping her gaze on the horizon in front of her. Lucia blinked and continued to keep an eye out for their quarry. "You have a strong team. I can tell." [break][break]

A sudden howl pierced the air as the Wooloo all would begin to panic. Terrified noises and cries were in the air as it became known to all. The wolves had arrived. [break][break]

Sneaking up on her hadn't been his intention. He figured she had heard his approach. He had to give her points, though, for recovering her composure quickly, even able to release her Pokémon from their Poké Balls soon after. Not many would be able to say the same.

As her Dunsparce curled around her, he withdrew his hand, allowing it to fall back to his side. Her cold attitude caused him to quirk a brow, but other than that, he didn't react to the tone she used. In fact, his expression was pretty neutral as she continued on to introduce herself.

"Likewise, Lucia," he said, his tone polite.

Once the introductions were out of the way, he turned away from her. He was content for the moment to let her take the reins. As he watched, he debated what to do. He considered striking up a conversation but wasn't sure what he could speak with her about. He didn't think she would be too interested in his encyclopedic knowledge on Pokémon.

Almost as if she was a mind reader, she spoke up. "Three years. I came to Hoenn three years ago from Alola," he told her, turning towards her as he spoke. Having been taught it was rude not to look at the person you were talking to, he always made sure to look at the person he was talking to if he could.

He was about to respond to her next comment when a howl sounded. Narrowing his eyes, he took out his own Poké Ball before releasing Mirage from his Poké Ball. The ghostly fox appeared in a ball of light and looked back at his owner.

"If the Pokémon make it past the trench, I want you to hit them with everything you have. Only drive them off," he told the Hisuian Zoroark, the last part being said sternly. While Mirage was usually in control, he could lose his cool if he thought Axel was in danger. That was not something they needed right now.[break] Lucia Aldrete

Alola, that was pretty far away. More than where she had been anyway, alongside most of her party. Lucia nodded along with him and looked up with a vaguely interested expression that could just barely be visible. "We haven't been there yet." she said promptly. "We're from Paldea, so it's hard coming over here compared to our home. Things are a lot different here." [break][break]

With the howl echoing through the field, it was time to earn their pay. Lucia readied herself while making a mental note of the location of her three pokemon. Hero, Pinky and Muck were all ready and wired to fight. They were on high alert while in the dead of night, the cries of fellow wolves and terrified herd pokemon could be heard. [break][break]

"We'll take the left side of the field if you can take the right. Just shout if you need back up and we'll run over." [break][break]

She made her way to one half of the field with her party as the night began. Over by the Dunsparce, he suddenly found himself under attack by a Lycanroc. He puffed himself up to try and intimidate the rock-type but to little avail. They went at it with one another, with Hero using DRILL RUN to push the canine back. The Lycanroc yelped and fell back into the brush while joining the pack. [break][break]

Silence was birthed onto the field once more. [break][break]

"Hm. Where are they?" [break][break]

"If it makes you feel any better, I've never been to Paldea. Not that I could tell you much about Alola despite living there for ten years. I only know stuff about Alola from my siblings, but Hoenn is very different from my home region as well," he admitted, hoping to make her feel better. Not that she had sounded upset or anything like that.

The gym challenge wasn't even something that existed in Alola. Instead, they had the whole gym challenge, which one had to go through in order to take on the Pokémon league. And only when one was eleven. Though even before coming to Hoenn, he had known of the gym challenge thanks to his dad.

The howl pulled him away from his thoughts. Suddenly alert, his eyes scanned their surroundings. He could see the shapes in the dark, allowing him to know the attackers were Pokémon. With this confirmed, he simply released Mirage from his Pokémon, choosing to take in what was going on around him. He had also done it so Lucia could have full reign over the mission.

Hearing her comment, he simply nodded to show he had heard before heading right. He didn't bother beckoning for Mirage, knowing he would follow unless given specific directions to stay. It wasn't long before a Lycanroc made its presence known, and he simply pointed at the canine, trusting Mirage to decide his own moves.

Mirage slammed into the Lycanroc with Foul Play, driving it back. He smiled before momentarily looking away from the battle to glance in the direction Lucia was in. He wondered how the younger kid was doing and if she had encountered any Lycanroc of her own.

A sound from behind him made him instinctively jump to the side just in time to avoid a Lycanroc from behind. He eyed the second Lycanroc before releasing Gemini, his Wyrdeer, from his Pokéball as an extra form of protection, as Mirage continued to deal with the Lycanroc he was dealing with.

Hopefully, they would be able to drive the Lycanroc off soon. They seemed pretty desperate to get at the Wooloo.[break] Lucia Aldrete
