lyune is there at a moment's notice. the dragon had been lazing in the sand, sleepily enjoying the warmth on his scales. and it had been just before the waves broke, when the mantine began to panic, that he'd lifted his head, gaze sharpening.

freya had stood, held her breath, and watched as panic unfolded.

within a moment's notice she is swinging over lyune's neck, urging him onward and abandoning her position in the audience. his wings flare and he takes a bounding leap, gliding over panicked civilians. they land by the shore, rather than staying in the air, pulling back only because the tentacruel reveal themselves.

and they're impossibly big.

she whips around, spots a familiar face and shouts to two other league members looking out at sea. one of the tentacruel turn towards them; its tentacles waver through the water, sending crashing waves towards them. they pool under lyune's paws and he raises his head, fins furling, eyes narrowing to slits as he activates his intimidate ability.

another tentacruel moves towards the surf, reaching out with black tendrils. not friendlies. that's all she needs to command lyune with a draco meteor. a giant purple orb charges in lyune's maw, blasting off and splintering into several chunks that shoot straight towards the monstrosity.

The surf competition goes far worse than Bryony could have imagined possible. She has seen too many things and she knows, with a heavy heart, she will never unsee them. Mateo's extremeities will be burned into her head until the day she dies. She can only hope Noelle, perhaps, got some enjoyment out of it.

Not much longer after the competition ends and the others have run off somewhere, the Tentacruel begin to spill towards the beach. Bryony's mouth opens; they're coming in faster than people can handle. Her hands knit together and she tugs at the brim of her sunhat, looking for someone that isn't her to deal with this.

At her ankle, Mochi slaps her hard with her tail and Bryony yelps. She looks down, sucks in a breath, and arrives second on the scene.

"Mochi - use protect," she says softly. The jangmo-o snorts but a transluscent shield forms around it before she charges into battle, assuming the position top right of the salamence.

for what seems to be the umpteenth time since coming to hoenn, fernando is caught with his pants down. known for his tendency to break the six pokeball quota, he's relieved with only two. there's no point in wearing them when surfing and the possibility of the objects being swept away by the waves proved to be a big enough concern for him to come to the occasion strapless.

still in his drenched swimming attire, fernando runs toward the beach and releases one of the only pokemon he has on him. naturally, he'd bring both a water pokemon for the beach and one geared to support to assist with any potential sport-related injuries. with so many people in attendance, security becomes a moot concern. so now here he is, ready to aid the trainers that will have to carry them into victory.

"SAFEGUARD."

the ALOMOMOLA hovers a few inches off the ground and flashes in a bright glow, casting a protective veil over nearby pokemon. with the tentacruel approaching, fernando's primary concern is being POISONED or being hit by a SUPERSONIC. his time in kanto grants him a thorough intimacy with the seafoam pests.

"Just like a kaiju movie, huh?" Pikachu—on the naked shoulder of Chancelor nods with narrowed eyes, red cheeks overflowing with electric energy. The martial artist looks onward with hazel eyes, panicked and startled denizens fleeing for safety past him. "Why don't you get in there and give em' some support?" The Electric type leaps off the bare shoulder of chancelor, flipping in the air a couple of times before landing on the warm and trampled sand below.

Dancing jolts of electricity danced all over the yellow fur of the little rodent. These jigging jolts coated said fur—static causing strands of hair to stand on end. This effect traversed the makeshift battlefield—the defending Pokémon feeling protective warmth as a very thin layer of lightning-like armor would offer protection from certain categories of attacks( ^{light screen} ). Afterwards, the lionhearted Electricity type dashes forward and joins the other defenders facing off against this terror from the depth. Positioned in the back right—slightly behind the protecting Jangmo-o, Pikachu awaits for the next opportunity to take further action, laser-focused black eyes affixed on the creature slowly approaching.

it's unfazed by the guttural roar that rips from lyune's throat. freya throws her hands in front of her; lyune raises a wing in an attempt to protect her, but safeguard lays the poisonous effects of the sludge to rest. his other wing twists painfully as he tries to move it out of reflex, without freya's help, and he jerks, fangs bared.

"again," she orders and lyune steadies himself, plants his feet firmly into the sand, and fires. another comet soars from his mouth towards the beast.

"it's getting too close! we have to beat it back." she looks back at one of the league cadets, to his pikachu, and steps to the side, out of range. "we have to stop it."

She rolls in the sand before springing back to her feet, looking worse for wear than she had only a second ago. The jangmo-o shakes her head, rattles out her tail, then charges back in. Bryony has to resist the urge to run to check on her.

She sucks a breath in and pins her lip under teeth, pale eyes darting across the scene to the others. They stop on Chancelor and out of instinct, she moves closer to him.

"D-dragon tail!" she calls.

Mochi continues her charge before twisting in the sand, DRAGON TAIL sweeping outward at the Tentacruel and its tentacles. Bryony sets a hand against Chancelor's arm, fingers trembling.

[attr="class","spiral"] fernando scrutinizes the battle, unable to do much more than observe the battle unfold. all of their pokemon bolster their defenses as freya morningstar remains on the offensive. her secondary use of DRACO METEOR is alarming but he holds his tongue. his calculations of the attack shows diminishing returns over time, although it should still be strong for now.

"WIDE GUARD."

the ALOMOMOLA propels itself forward to take a new spot on the front lines. with how close the jangmo-o is to the pikachu, it's now in the back line relative to the rest of the pokemon. up front, in the top right position, the ALOMOMOLA casts a protective net over the other pokemon, protecting them from all wide range attacks that effect more than one pokemon. SURF and SLUDGE WAVE come to mind and fernando is wary of them being swept up in a single move.

"freya. switch over to physical attacks. we can't stop it from breaching but we can hold it."

Don't worry, Bry. We gotcha'." Chancelor speaks with his usual trademarked grin—comforting words infused with an confident aura attempting to boost the faltering morale of the clanswomen.

Pikachu, still behind Jangmo-o, shoots the familiar Pokémon a few words of encouragement before following his lead in the assault of the megalithic creature. In unison with his brother-in-arms—following the Dragon Tail attack, Pikachu hangs in the back during the attack, static electricity bombarding the poisonous creature in an attempt to halt any further attacks while making its body, joints, and motor functions less reliable ^{(THUNDER WAVE )}. Once the attack was complete, he'd continue to remain in the back lines behind the Alomomola—jolts of electricity dancing across red cheek pouches.

she is too focused on the monstrosity before them to notice their unity, their organization. all she can do is watch as lyune is slammed with a critical ice-type attack. the hollow of his neck frosts and he lashes his tail, narrowly missing freya in his rage.

ice settles, bites into his skin, and cools him down rapidly. flames slip through his teeth, dripping embers. the ragged sculpture melts, drips to join the salty sand below, but the damage has been done.

they need a moment of reprieve, a moment for him to collect himself. freya puts a hand on his hind leg and orders a protect. and then she turns sharply, to fernando.

"he needs help before we can send him back in."

lyune's tail twitches; the dragon does not fare well when called weak. but he slashes outward with blue-tipped claws; a shimmering barrier appears in a circle around him, providing himself and freya a few spare moments of recovery.

[attr="class","bry"] Bryony clings to Chancelor's side, her fingers tight against his arm even when she tries to calm her nerves. Her grip only tightens when the salamence is nearly struck dead by the attack, stomach twisting.

Where Bryony freezes in the heat of battle, her jangmo-o acts on its own accord, going still in the backline to use bide. Mochi's tail twitches, body braced as she waits for an attack to hit.

"There's a - there's a pattern to their lights," Bryony whispers, forcing herself to focus on the flickering gems in an attempt to ease her mind. She searches the waves, tries to find a pattern in the movement and pulse of the oncoming swarm.

[attr="class","spiral"] dragons resist water but yield to ice. how fitting that their enemy has access to a tool that dismantles both of their front lines. fernando cannot yell quick enough once freya's salamence takes a critical hit from the AURORA BEAM.

"HEAL PULSE," he shouts in a rising fervor. the ALOMOMOLA turns to face the injured dragon and cries out for it. a gush of concerned tears and a bleating coon gives way to azure waves of restorative energy. each out radiates in a synchronized pulse, seeping into the pokemon's scales and skin to restore up to 50% of its maximum health.

fernando makes note of their synchronized flashes. with few pokemon to command and little to take up his attention, his focus is on trying to derive some sort of pattern from the order in which they flicker.

Chancelor speaks to Bryony while Pikachu springs into action—zipping across the sandy battlefield, and leaping onto the back of the front-line Salamence. Once upon, he scales the dragonic beast until he is atop the head and glares directly at the Deep Sea Monstrosity; jolts of electricity dancing; skipping across neatly groomed yellow and black fur.

"Zap that tentacle there," Chancelor calls out; his words aimed directly for the 'scanning' feeler due to how 'suspicious' this one tentacle was in contrast to the others. Like a bomb, the electricity within the little rodent exploded outward with grandiose effect—a high voltage golden and white spear of thunder traveled directly for the Tentacruel's tentacle with the utmost amount of precision and execution ^{( THUNDERBOLT )}.
