With the Vital City Tourney in full swing over in Lilycove, Lam hadn’t had much time to spare between preparations and the barrage of battles he was signed up for. Still, he took a breather when he could—stepping away from the bustle to get out into the safari zone. Just to have a moment of quiet with his tiny teammate.[break][break]
And though Pops might’ve had to take on a few wild pokemon there, she seemed quite glad for the respite as well—cheerfully hopping around in the underbrush.

A tatsugiri sunbathing in the shallows of a pond almost skirts his attention. The muddy spots blending it with the murky water. But the bright splashes of orange that break through give it away, and Lam sends Pops forward - the little pidove chirps, pushing it out of the water and to a waiting safari ball with gusts of AIR SLASH.

A little combee buzzed around his head as he moved to collect the safari ball holding the tatsugiri. Rather than swat at it, he eyed it curiously. Wondered what sort of thing combee liked to eat since it probably wouldn’t be birdseed. He had a few berries in his pocket too, so maybe something sweet.[break][break]
Still shoe-deep in pond muck, he fished a few out and offered them on the palm of his hand.

Once the combee seemed contented with his offering, he tapped another safari ball against it. It was swallowed up in the glow, and then the ball clicked shut without issue. He was about to clamber out of the shallows when the splash of a magikarp distracted him. “Oh.” Reluctance crawled through him, his dislike for fish almost making him turn away. But this particular fish was useful—or rather, what it evolved into. Disdain or not, gyarados was…a useful flying type.[break][break]

Lam sighed. When it popped up above the surface again, he carefully aimed a pokeball at it and let loose.

Finally, he waded back out of the pond, nose wrinkling as he shook water from his bogged down sneakers. “Break time’s over!” he called out to his exploring pidove. He’d need to change his shoes now before they headed off their next round of tourney matches. She fluttered back to him, ready to land on his shoulder before a charmander tried to square up. She lashed out—bonking it with a quick DRAGON HAMMER before it could waylay them too long. Lam tossed his last safari ball at it, and off they went.
