Route 101's normally grassy terrain was currently covered in a light layer of snow. Here and there, Gracie Mae could see footsteps left behind wild pokemon. Even though she and her ponyta were the only ones in sight, it was a gentle reminder that they weren't alone.[break][break]

"Nice and steady, Calcifer," the breeder instructed the ponyta from the other ends of the reigns. Calcifer whinnied. The wheels of the carriage rolled with a little resistance against the snow, but it wasn't bad enough to keep them from pushing forward. The carriage was empty now since Gracie Mae had made her deliveries, making it all the easier for Calcifer to carry them forward.

Though the journey was not long from Littleroot to the next town, Oldale, Gracie Mae could already feel her stomach begging for food. She looked up to the sky, the sun a gentle warmth on this otherwise chill morning. She tried to convince herself to hold out for the next thirty minutes it would take them to arrive to Oldale.[break][break]

"Hanging in there ok, Cal?" she spoke to the ponyta. He gave a proud sound of affirmation. "Good, good. We'll take a break when we reach Oldale, alright? I've got some snacks for you." Hearing that made Cal whine in anticipation and pick up speed a little.

Before long, a wild gloom walked into their path, oblivious to the breeder and her pokemon. Gracie Mae sat up, instantly attracted. "Cal, hold on!" she informed the ponyta. He came to a gentle stop to try and not surprise the gloom.[break][break]

Gracie Mae reached into her backpack to pull out a pokeball. "I'm going to try and catch it! Pebbles, I choose you!" She tossed the ball from her hand to release the vullaby.[break][break]

Pebbles ruffled her feathers against the cold. She pecked at the snowy ground and clawed at it with her talons. Gracie Mae giggled at the little bird's behavior. "Ok, Pebbles, think you can use a GUST on that gloom over there?" the redhead asked, her voice kind and considerate. She knew her vullaby was still just a baby.[break][break]

Little Pebbles looked ahead, thinking, and then nodded vigorously. She gave a lighthearted chirp before flapping her wings as fast as she could! The GUST was small, nothing to ride home about, but it was enough to have the gloom knocked off its feet and startled. Before it could get away, Gracie Mae threw another pokeball, this one empty.[break][break]

The three of them waited, watching the pokeball roll back and forth, until it dinged pleasantly. "Yes!" the breeder exclaimed. She hopped off the carriage to retrieve her newly caught gloom and gave Pebbles a loving pat on the head. "Gloom are poisonous, which makes them great for creating antidotes!" She was about to go on a spiel about the gloom's other benefits, but her stomach made an audible sound. Her excitement would have to wait till they at least got some lunch!
