"omg! it's a ghost!" the breeder cried, but not out of fear. her face shined in glee thinking about all the spooky possibilities that could ensue. "right, lady crane, right?" she asked, looking for affirmation.[break][break]

the odd egg held in her hands made a low, rumbling noise. it was deep, much like a moan, and echoed off the walls. chills crawled up gracie mae's spine.[break][break]

"what's next?" she inquired her occultist with starry eyes, completely expecting her to have all the answers.

Gracie Mae hovered close as Lady Crane examined the egg. Cursed or not, her motherly instincts were active, and she wanted to ensure the egg would be cared for.[break][break]

"Well you see, it was just left on the porch of the ranch," the breeder explained. "I don't know who left it. There was no note."[break][break]

It wouldn't have been the first time she had stumbled upon a lonely egg, though uncommon. In her experience, she learned that sometimes, there were people that felt unequipped to raise a baby pokemon. And it had to have been a person that entrusted the egg to her. How else would it arrive on her doorstep? A pokemon certainly wouldn't have done that...[break][break]

"What do you think..." she spoke, keeping her voice calm and quiet, as if speaking loudly would upset the being inside the egg and cause it to "act out."

The redheaded breeder was ecstatic to see the works of an acclaimed occultist firsthand. Though she hoped that the mysterious egg wasn't actually cursed, Gracie Mae was wholeheartedly interested in the paranormal and unexplained.[break][break]

"Right this way, Lady Crane!" Gracie Mae exclaimed, showing her into the ranch-style home. Her brother was off elsewhere, caring for the pokemon in their steed. She suspected he was purposefully keeping himself away from anything to do with this egg.[break][break]

"As I mentioned before on the phone, lots of strange things have been happening since we got this egg," she explained as they walked towards the back of the house. "I've kept it in this room and do the necessary checks. See?" Gracie Mae opened a door to reveal a small bedroom where the black egg currently sat in a small, round bed atop the guest bed. She gestured for Mitsuru to feel free to inspect the egg.[break][break]

"Sometimes, I do feel it move inside, and I keep it warm, but at certain times, it can feel real cold, even when I snuggle it up in blankets..."

Gracie Mae couldn't believe it herself. A cursed egg? It sounded outrageous! And yet...[break][break]

Strange things had started happening ever since she picked up this black egg. It was peculiar to her, the first she had ever seen solid black, and not just any kind of black. It was pitch black with specks of shine, like space itself dotted with stars. Someone had left it at the doorstep of her ranch without a note. Naturally, Gracie Mae didn't have a second thought about taking it in and caring for it. But with the weird occurances happening at the Jolly Ranch, after speaking with her brother, she simply could not overlook this anymore.[break][break]

She contacted and enlisted the help of one Mitsuru Kagami. Supposedly, she was a psychic? An occultist? Whatever she was, Gracie Mae hoped she could help with this egg.[break][break]

She waited outside the house of her ranch for the woman to arrive. At her shoulder sat the tiny Winnie, and all around the house and ranch, her other pokemon either worked or played.[break][break]

When she saw a figure approaching, Gracie Mae raised her hand high in the air and called out to her. "Um, over here! I'm Gracie Mae! The one with the... the egg!" At first glance, she looked the part.

annie mae let out a small "moo" as a wild dunsparce hopped acros the path before them, causing them to come to a brief stop. the dunsparce seemed almost silly with the way its body thumped against the ground with every hop, its tiny wings seemingly useless in design. gracie mae giggled to herself. it wasn't called the land snake pokemon for nothing, she thought to herself.[break][break]

"wait a minute," the breeder then spoke, realizing the dunsparce's wings appeared to be injured. "hold on, annie mae." she gave the miltank a reassuring pat before approaching the dunsparce. "hey, hey, cute lil' dunsparce. mind if i take a look at you for a moment?"[break][break]

the dunsparce seemed skeptical but friendly and approachable. with careful precision, gracie mae kneeled down to the dunsparce's level and looked over its wings and body. traces of battle were evident.[break][break]

"i'm sure you'd be using those wings of yours if they weren't so badly tweaked," gracie mae said to the dunsparce. "your tail is lookin' a lil' hurt, too. how 'bout it? want to come home with me? i'll make sure you're healed in no time. promise!"[break][break]

but gracie mae had no intention of carrying annie mae and a dunsparce all the way back home. this one, she decided, would have to go into a pokeball.[break][break]

"careful, now," gracie mae spoke to her miltank, her voice as warm as the vibrant oranges that made up her hair. with careful precision, she sprayed a potion over the pokemon's wounded knee, eliciting a whine from annie mae, then applied a bandage to trap it all in. "let's take it easy from here on out," the breeder affirmed with a nod and pat to the miltank's head.[break][break]

annie mae sniffled. she was ashamed to have made such a silly error as to trip and fall off the edge. gracie mae had come tumbling right behind her, ready to check up on her health and act fast.[break][break]

it was time to call their outing to route 116 to an early end. gracie mae helped lift her miltank to her feet. they took slow steps on the path back towards rustboro.[break][break]

both gracie mae and annie mae perked up and turned their direction to the sound of the noise. a munchlax sped through the roads with an armful of bagels scrunched together in its arms (and two of them already hanging out of its hungry mouth). behind it was the man that had yelled out.[break][break]

"o-oh! ok!" gracie mae exclaimed, frantically reaching for an empty pokeball from her bag. the munchlax was running toward her, dropping some bagels in the process. she nearly missed her opportunity, but just in the nick of time, gracie mae had located a pokeball, and with a swift throw, hit it at the back of the munchlax's head.[break][break]

the bagels fell to the ground. the ball wiggled.[break][break]

"yes!" the breeder fist-bumped the air when she saw the familiar ding![break][break]

the hungry little thing could eat its fill back at her ranch without disturbing others. she hoped, at least.[break][break]

As the pair made their way through Slateport, Gracie Mae noted all the wonderful stores and attractions that filled the area. She couldn't help but pause to gawk and dream whenever something caught her attention. Several times, Annie Mae pulled at her trainer's wrist, ushering her to keep moving toward their destination. "Sorry, girl, sorry," the breeder apologized each time. She eyed the Contest Hall in particular, thoughts drifting to a fantasy she had always played in her head as a child.[break][break]

"Annie Mae, you make the best moo moo milk!" Gracie Mae downed her glass of fresh milk (literally quite fresh, straight from the miltank's udder mere seconds ago) and exhaled a refreshed sigh. A white moustache colored her upper lip. "One more, one more!" she chimed, motioning for her miltank to come closer.[break][break]

Annie Mae stepped forward and made a pleased sound, always happy to see her trainer enjoy her labors. The process was quick, simple, and clean. Gracie Mae was always thankful to have her own personal milk jug at all times.[break][break]

After giving her glass a quick wipe down with a piece of cloth, Gracie Mae carefully packed the drinkware back into her hefty backpack. It was time for them to continue their journey, yet another delivery for the always busy breeder.[break][break]

Eventually, the beautiful dragon disappeared from Gracie Mae's view, but her attention would now be invited by the lull of DESIREE BLOOMS's lively performance. Immediately, Gracie Mae made her way to where the crowd was joined so that she could stand in full view of DESIREE BLOOMS's musical event. She had never heard the song before, but it made for easy listening and lured her body into a gentle sway. Like the jovial child that she was, Gracie Mae jumped in beat with the music, hand raised in the air, and pretended to sing along with the lyrics that she didn't know.[break][break]
