With the current Vital City Tournament, all was suspiciously quiet in Lilycove for the moment. So many Trainers gathered together to battle would be sure to cause some disputes. Perhaps this day was lucky, or maybe the no-gooders had just tuckered themselves out from the fast action.[break][break]

A small gaggle of new recruits say in the reception area, sipping coffee as they traded excited 'war' stories from baseline missions. The receptionist clacked away behind the desk. One woman was sitting in the corner with a clipboard, filling out a small complaint about Caterpie who had been getting into her garden. Relaxed. Easy. Simple. A breath of fresh air.[break][break]

Then the doors were pushed open with much more force that needed. Sebastian Lavigne stormed into the room with all the fury of a tornado. Scowl on his face, he marched over to the reception desk and placed doth hands, plans down, on top. Leaning over, he peered over at the poor person working.[break][break]

"I need to talk to luka chêne. Now." His voice was a little too loud of the situation, his expression a little too fierce. Sebastian spoke like a worried parent or perhaps like someone who wasn't told 'no' often enough.

Even with the vital city tournament in full swing, a ranger's work never stops. In fact, since Luka had taken the previous day off to actually participate in a few battles, her work has started to pile up. She doesn't really mind it— her days have been filled with nothing but paperwork and various amnesty meetings as of late, and there's something comforting in routine.[break][break]

As an added bonus, it gives her an excuse to be a little reclusive. Sad as it is to admit, the tournament had been the first time she'd participated in something not related to work all week. She barely goes out and hardly talks to friends anymore, and work is a handy excuse whenever someone asks where she's been.[break][break]

But it seems that today, she won't be able to finish her work in peace. While in the middle of some paperwork the door to her office bursts open and the receptionist, Rosemary, sweeps in. She appears frazzled and more than a little annoyed— far from her usual demeanor.[break][break]

"There's a guy at the desk," she says breathlessly. "He's here for you, apparently? He's so rude, and he says he won't leave until he sees you." The woman wrings her hands together anxiously. "Can you come take care of it?"[break][break]

Luka blinks at her. "Eh? Um...sure?" Isn't this what security is for? Perhaps with the tournament going on, they're spread too thin. "Did he say what he wanted?"[break][break]

"Just that he wants to see you. Won't take no for an answer, and he's being a real dick about it." Rosemary swivels and marches out of the room, expecting Luka to follow. After grabbing a love ball from her desk, just in case, she does.[break][break]

"That's weird. I don't think I had any meetings today..."[break][break]

She has no idea who it could be— who on earth would want to see her that badly? The list of people she hasn't lost all contact with is embarrassingly short. She's still mulling this over as she rounds a corner, looks up, and gasps.[break][break]

Standing in the middle of the lobby is the last person she expected to see in Hoenn.[break][break]

"Sebby?"

Sebastian seethes quietly as he waits for the receptionist to get back. His fingers drum quick and hard on the counter, foot tapping out a sharp rhythm. The newbie Rangers have quieted down, giving him curious and slightly nervous looks. One of them meets his eyes, which causes him to narrow his own at them. The Ranger, sufficiently cowed, looks down quickly and curls his shoulders in on himself.[break][break]

After what was way too long, Seb hears footsteps coming their way. He glances down the hallway- a flash of familiar pink followed by his eyes locking with that familiar green.[break][break]

"Lucky!" Is his answer. Instantly, his body language shifts; the tight coils of tension relaxing and face softening as he takes a few steps closer to the other.[break][break]

"Bless, I thought you would be missing[/i[] when I asked for you." There is a joy painting his face, then. Another bit closer, within arms reach, and if she would allow it he would pull her tight into a tug. The faintest of chaste kisses dropped on the crown of her head.[break][break]

Then, with much briskness, Seb would place his hands on her shoulders to push her at arm's length. His face twisted up with worry, and maybe a little hurt.[break][break]

"luka chêne! I've been worried sick over you!" There is heat in his tone, still too loud, but it's not anger there. Sebastian could never be mad at Luka.

It really is him! Sebastian Lavigne, in the flesh![break][break]

She almost can’t believe it. Of course she recognizes him, but it’s been…what, a year now? Two? And though he’s still the same man she remembers, there are some differences that illustrate how much time has passed. His hair is a little longer, and she doesn’t recognize his jacket. Is it new?[break][break]

These are all superficial chances, of course. Unimportant. What matters more than hair and clothes is Sebastian himself, and she’d like to think that he’s still the same man she adores so much.[break][break]

But is she still the same? Her time in Hoenn has changed her, and she can’t help but wonder if her dear Sebby will still love the woman it’s turned her into. That is, if he can even manage to forgive her for disappearing on him first.[break][break]

And with that thought comes guilt, though she shoves it aside for the moment as she returns Sebastian’s embrace, holding him gingerly at first, as if afraid that he might turn into smoke and disappear. But when he doesn’t immediately vanish she squeezes him so tightly that her arms ache, and should he allow it, she’ll crane her neck up to give his cheeks a standard Kalosian kiss.[break][break]

As soon as he pushes her back, however, she prepares herself for the worst. For him to yell, to scold, to give her the tongue-lashing she deserves. But it doesn’t come, and somehow, that’s almost worse.[break][break]

“I’m sorry!” And she is, truly. Her eyes shine with it- or is that just tears threatening to spill over? “I mean to…t—that is, I wanted to call, I’ve just been…i-it’s been crazy, and…” She trails off, suddenly aware that they have an audience.[break][break]

“Do you have some time?” She covers his hands with hers, pulling them off her shoulders and holding them gently in front of them. “We, um, can go to my office and talk, if you want?”

With the shining in luka chêne's eyes, the apology... Well, Seb had never been able to stay mad at Luka. Whatever he had been feeling is melted away by her hugs and attention. They would have a lot to talk about. For now, though, he takes a deep breath and tries to use some of those grounding exercises his therapist had taught him.[break][break]

They rarely worked, but Luka he would make them.[break][break]

"I'd always have time for you." It's his own promise, spoken into the world. Spoken with so much raw affection and adoration for the woman in front of him that one of the Rookies blushes.[break][break]

He pulls one hand out of Luka's grip, but he works the other one to gently hold her hand if she would allow that.[break][break]

The free one he uses to gently ruffle her hair before smoothing it back down.[break][break]

"I'll go anywhere we can chat."
