He winced slightly as Dizzy shook herself, showering him with water. Great, now he was in for an uncomfortable few hours and maybe a bit of pain over the next few days. The wet material of his shirt was sure to rub against his scars, irritating them. Oh well, he would just have to deal with it until he got home.

Ignoring the pain in his leg, he simply gestured that they should continue before walking forward. His pace had quickened slightly upon hearing the distant sound of battle. Hopefully Nyx was doing okay. He knew the Gliscor could protect herself, but he was still worried. Some of the dragon Pokémon that made their home in Meteor Falls could be quite powerful, after all.

Meanwhile, after being ditched by the Dragapult, Nyx decided to track it down again, but this time she would stay out of sight. Tracking it down by emitting invisible sound waves to navigate around any objects that might be in her path didn’t take long, and before she knew it, she had found Zachary, the Abra, and the Dragapult.

After assessing the situation and seeing how much danger there was, Nyx wheeled around and flew off in the direction her trainer was in, without being noticed by anyone in the room, thanks to keeping to the shadows.

Ever hadn’t gone very far when he suddenly saw Nyx coming towards them, immediately making them stop. “Did you find them?” he asked, and upon receiving a confirming nod from the Gliscor, he turned his attention to Dizzy.

“Look, would you be okay if we were to take a ride on Nyx here?” he said, indicating the Gliscor before continuing. “I promise she’s safe. It’ll just be a lot faster for her to take us to where your trainer is if we were to ride on her back than if we were to continue on foot,” Ever explained.

While he waited for some kind of confirmation from the Pokémon, he would check to make sure the saddle was on well enough.

It was while he was doing that that he heard what sounded like a weak cry. Frowning slightly, he told Nyx to stay before going a bit further in the direction they were heading but still within range to keep an eye on Dizzy and Nyx. He came across a Hydrapple that seemed to have collapsed from hunger.

Without hesitating, he took out a banana he had brought with him and started to feed it to the Hydrapple. It wasn’t much, but at least it was something. And it seemed the Hydrapple was grateful enough to nuzzle his hand.

"Glad you’re feeling better," he said, standing up and heading back the short distance to Nyx and Dizzy before realizing the Hydrapple was following him. Blinking down at the Hydrapple, he frowned slightly before taking out a Pokéball. “Do you want to come with me?” he asked, holding the Pokéball out towards the dragon type.

The Hydrapple decided to push the button, causing her to be sucked into the Pokéball.

Once that was done, he turned his attention to the fox Pokémon. “So, do you want to ride on Nyx to get to your trainer faster?” he asked, coming to stand by Nyx’s side.[break] zachary stellar

Dizzy might not want to ride Nyx, but that didn't mean he wasn't. His leg was aching a bit, not to mention he was tired from multiple days of no sleep, so he was more than content to ride the Gliscor while she led the way. Not that there was much reason for Nyx to lead, since not long after they had started, they saw the unmistakable flash of a Dazzling Gleam being used.

From the way the Delphox acted, he could only assume that one of his trainer's other Pokémon must be behind the Dazzling Gleam, so he urged Nyx to go just a little faster, but not so fast that Dizzy would have trouble keeping up. And finally, they came upon a teenager with an Abra and Mime Jr. facing off against a Dragapult.

Frowning, he released Celestia, his shiny Galarian Rapidash, to help if needed before taking the chance to scan their surroundings. It was clear Nyx was also paying attention, since Nyx suddenly pulled up sharply to avoid a Buizel using Wave Crash on them.

Looking over his shoulder, he saw a few Buizel had come up over the falls and had tried to attack in his moment of distraction. Frowning, he released Volt from his Poké Ball before directing the Zebstrika to use Thunder Wave on the Buizel that had attacked.

Once paralyzed, he threw an empty Poké Ball towards the Buizel and waited until he had seen it get sucked into a Poké Ball before redirecting his attention to the other battle.[break] zachary stellar

Him and Dizzy arrived around the end of the battle just in time to watch the younger male almost get crushed by rocks, only being saved due to the Abra using teleport. Always being on guard, his gaze was already scanning their surroundings for the appearance of light, which would be a sign that the younger and the Abra were about to make a reappearance.

Seeing the telltale formation of light, he immediately focused on it, so he was the first to notice that the teleportation was a bit off. Before he could react, it was too late and Zachary and the Abra were plummeting towards the water below. Hitting water from this height could lead to some broken bones if lucky, so the second they fell, he was immediately moving forwards.

Seeing them land safely thanks to the Milotic, he couldn’t help but be relieved. Not that he showed it. Instead, he simply went on his way to meet up with Zachary, figuring Dizzy was following.

He watched the Delphox and younger male reunite, staying quiet as they did so. It didn’t take long until the younger male noticed him though.

“I’m Ever and I found him. I was exploring when I heard him, so I decided to check it out. I thought it might be an injured Pokémon, so I wanted to try and help him. Obviously, he wasn’t injured, but I still have a duty to help any Pokémon in need,” he said impassively.

It was clear while he had been more emotive with Dizzy, Zachary wouldn’t get the same treatment.[break] zachary stellar

At the expressed gratitude, he simply inclined his head. Getting thanked was something that made him uncomfortable, not that he showed it. Showing emotion to someone, or really anyone, wasn't his cup of tea. Pokémon were different since he felt he could let his guard down around them.

Upon hearing the explanation, his gaze flickered briefly to the Abra. "Meteor Falls is considered dangerous, even for the most experienced of people. Dragon types are known as one of the most violent species of Pokémon, especially full-grown ones, so most people who don't have a lot of experience with battling tend to give it a wide berth. You're lucky you didn't get seriously hurt or worse," he said, keeping his tone impassive so it didn't seem like he was lecturing the other. To him, he was just stating facts anyway.

He watched the building tension between the Abra and Dizzy and had to resist the urge to sigh, the urge only growing when the Abra disappeared again, this time seemingly permanently, after Zachary requested his stolen item back. Though something told him this wouldn't be the last time they saw the mischievous Abra.

"Can't say I share your sentiment. The Abra line isn't a line I particularly want. An Espeon wouldn't be so bad if it was large enough to be a mount or a Wrydeer. Just something I could use as a mount," he said with a small shrug before agreeing with the younger that they needed to get outside where they would be safer.

Simply gesturing for them to follow, he began to trek in the direction he knew the exit was. Nyx kept to his side, ready to protect them as need be, as they made the trek through Meteor Falls until they got outside.[break] zachary stellar

"I'm a rookie ranger, so I don't think it would be good to focus on one type. It could leave me in a bad spot if I run into someone who uses a type they're weak to. As for being a gym leader, no interest. I don't like battling unless I absolutely have to. It's definitely not something I'm going to go out of my way to do," he said with a shake of his head.

He was well aware that his fellow ranger, Josh Devlin, was a gym leader. He didn't know how he did it. And it wasn't just the battling that turned him off from the idea. It was the whole concept of having people working under him that was a turn-off. He had enough trouble looking after himself; he didn't need to worry about other people. Not that he still didn't. He was too much of a protector type to turn a blind eye to someone who needed help.

"Hmmm, no. I could've done with you getting teleported everywhere," he said simply, not paying much attention to the obvious chewing out that Dizzy was giving her trainer.

Reaching the outside of the cave, he looked around before turning his attention to the younger man. "That would be a good idea," he agreed.

Having his suspicions about the Abra coming back, he didn't react when it suddenly teleported behind Zachary. It was clear from Zachary's and Dizzy's reactions that they weren't expecting it.

Watching the interaction between Abra and Zachary, he suddenly remembered the Jinx he had caught. Taking the Pokéball containing the Pokémon from his pocket, he held it out towards Zachary. "A shiny Jinx. I caught it when we were looking for you, but I don't have much use for a Jinx, so you can have it."

Only after he took it would he release Rook, his Corviknight, from his Pokéball. "Well, I'll be on my way now. I promised my grandparents I would spend some time with them," he said, swinging himself into the saddle on Rook's back before taking to the skies.[break] zachary stellar
