it almost feels as though he's returning to his roots with an assigned mission so simple that it takes him back to the early days. he recalls having done something similar with declan walsh, once upon a time, and it's from the knowledge gained by working with the master of forgery and deception that has allowed him to lead today.[break][break]

his partner for the day is circe crowley; a familiar face in hoenn yet unfamiliar within team rocket, at least with theo.[break][break]

he invites her closer, gesturing to the many suits that lay out across the workstations before him.[break][break]

"Mr. Beckett," Circe sang back with a trill at the tip of her tongue. "Honey, darling, leave all the fashion choices to me. These suits will dazzle and spazzle, you're gonna want to take one of these babies home with you." Circe clapped her hands together and rubbed them like an evil villain plotting away at a dasterdly plan as she approached him by the workstation. Cuddled in the pocket of a labcoat she had most definitely stolen off the racks was her zubat, snoozing away like the baby angel he was.[break][break]

With a hum, she looked over the materials they had on hand. Unlike her accomplice who actually held the title of a real scientist, she merely looked like she was fulfilling a bedroom fantasy in her (stolen) lab coat, sheer tights, and four-inch heels. On her face sat a pair of round glasses that served no other purpose aside from fashion.[break][break]

"Purple is a great color," she then said with a nod. "I'm thinking a muk-inspired sygna suit, adorned with black diamond gems, and for the bottom, a layered skirt to emulate the goopiness. Let's use tulle."

Circe shook her head immediately at the suggestion of a nidoking. "Nido-not. Too much pure masculine energy." She snapped her fingers for effect. "But an arbok would add color and that penetrating feeling of a piercing gaze. Mm." She held herself, closed her eyes, and shivered.[break][break]

She sighed, then realizing that she would have to do actual work and not just blabber ideas. Circe slumped her shoulders but kept her arms crossed below her chest. "Just tell me what I have to do," she then said to Theo, clueless to how one would construct a sygna suit.

"sygna suits are tied to sync stones. without one, they are essentially useless."[break][break]

he reaches into a crate off to the side.[break][break]

"we have created these counterfeit sync stones with the help of admin fern delaney. they are visually indistinguishable but they lack the functional component."[break][break]

the stone is placed on the workstation.[break][break]

"what you have to do today is to help me stitch these stones into the suits."

Circe swept the stone up form the workstation to bring it to her eye for a closer look. She hummed, noting its details and glint. "Mm, yes, of course," she said, as if she knew all along. "Stitching is not my forte, my dear Mr. Beckett." She placed the stone back on the table.[break][break]

Still, refusing to do work in this organization would get her no where with the upper ranks. Only then could she sack laborous work like this off to the underlings.[break][break]

"Well then, what are we waiting for?" She snatched for another stone from the crate and rolled it around in the palm of her hand. "If you'd like, I could even model the suits for you when we're finished."

an underboss trained in toxicology and a grunt moonlighting as an actress, both lacking the experience that would have made this mission much easier. but they do as they're told because that is what's expected of them; it is what is expected of anyone in team rocket.[break][break]

not wasting any more time, he begins stitching, meticulous with the needle to ensure the fitting of the stone is as seamless as possible.[break][break]

at circe crowley's suggestion, he shakes his head.[break][break]

"that won't be necessary."[break][break]

seeing how they aren't responsible for the actual sale of these suits, only the delivery to suppliers across the world.[break][break]

"but you are free to do as you please."[break][break]

his words are accompanied by a glance up at her.

no matter how she flaunted the bait, her line continued to come up empty. theo was turning out to be quite the tough cookie, but she always enjoyed herself a challenge.[break][break]

"unnecessary, maybe. fun? don't you think it would be fun?" she jabbed his shoulder with her elbow, uncaring if it interferred with his stitching. "you're like a puckered raisin, dried out and nasty. if we have to do menial labor, why not have some fun out of it?"[break][break]

circe moved to her side of the workstation and made herself extra comfortable by sitting atop it with one legged crossed over the other. absentmindedly, she also began to stitch her stone into a suit.[break][break]

"i think i'd like to see you do some modeling for me. i can see bulging muscles beneath all that wrinkly prune."

her jabs at him, playful and teasing as they are, would have earned a different reaction during another era. in this one, he only lets out an exhale, showing the littlest sign of amusement.

"are not all raisins puckered?"

they are dried grapes, after all. but he means it more as a joke; a rare instance from the underboss.

at her suggestion, he tilts his head over to look at her while his hands continue to work.

"i don't know how to model," he says, "you'll have to direct me."

a cackle escaped circe's lips, so loud that the zubat in the pocket of her lab coat stirs and pokes the top of his head out. "do mine ears deceive me? is that a promise?" she said with gleaming eyes on theo. she felt a prick at her finger. such was the consequence of paying little attention to the sewing project before her.[break][break]

circe returned to her work of art, needle moving at slow lengths as to avoid jabbing herself again. she continued to speak, "i can obviously give you tips. the question is, shall we share your newfound modeling career with the others? or is this show just for me?"

not nearly as distracted as circe crowley, theo continues weaving the needle, not once catching his fingers before putting the final touches to the suit. after a brief review, he slides the suit to the side and starts on another.

on the topic of modeling, he can't help but let the edges of his lips twitch into the faintest of a grin, though his gaze never quite lifts up to find hers.

"which would you prefer?"

without a hint of hesitation, circe answered him, "i'd prefer you to show me everything. i like a man that can be vulnerable with me."[break][break]

circe was not as quick as theo. by the time he was on his second suit, she was still finishing up the first. her stitching was incredibly lackluster, too, though she hoped no one would care to notice. it didn't help that right now, most of her attention was on the ragged man sat beside her.[break][break]

"however, if i'm being honest, i don't like to hide talent. you are not someone that should be kept to myself, mr. beckett."

there is beauty in simplicity. circe crowley's straightforward approach leaves little unsaid, which he appreciates, because it allows him to do the same in return.

"i'm not one to hide, rest assured."

the constraints nowadays are most often a lack of time, his role as underboss requiring him to constantly stay busy. not doing so could prove fatal not only for him but also for the organization they operate for.

idly, as though he's talking about as mundane as the weather, he calls back,

"you are free to indulge as you please."

"indulge me, then," circe cooed. she made her last stitch, bit the end of the string, and tossed the suit into the pile of completed ones. she lifted herself off the workstation to retrieve another 'sync stone' and a fresh suit. the drab colors of the suit made her shake her head in disapproval.[break][break]

"i want to hear the story of theo beckett. have you always been this hardened, or is there a tragic backstory to explain the way you are now?" circe took her place seated atop the workstation once more, this time letting her legs hang and dangle. the tips of her black heels scuffed against the tiled floor.[break][break]

"and don't leave out the juicy details," she said with a wink.
