Standing at the edge of a massive gorge in the depths of the chasm that had opened up within the icelands, Yuina felt a weight in her chest. This place... All of this madness, this chaos... The amount of destruction it was bringing across the entire region. What were they even supposed to do, to start to understand just what this meant, what this place was? Had it always been here, buried deep beneath the surface and had only just awakened, or was it brought about by another force entirely?[break][break]
And should she be down here by herself...?[break][break]
With everything that this cataclysm had caused, the league, the rangers, everyone was spread so thin, everywhere needed help, aid, research, recon, it was taking all of their forces in order to keep up with the demands of the region, of the people and Pokemon that were here...[break][break]
Yuina glanced to the large metallic creature that stood beside her, the iron Pokemon that had come to her, and may have very well saved her life... She still wasn't sure what caused it to reach out to her in the way that it did, some psychic force that met the anguish and pain that emanated from her in that moment... And she still felt bad for having judged them so quickly...[break][break]
It looked at her too, its digital blue eyes flashing, blinking as it were, before looking down to the depths they were set to gain information on.[break]
"You came from here, in a way... Didn't you," Yuina remarked, keeping her voice quiet, it felt incorrect to speak outloud in such a strange new place. Its digital eyes flashed again, looking out before glancing at her.[break][break]
"But you're not from this time, you can't be," she spoke again, everyone was doing research on these creatures, everyone was trying to gain an understanding of them, the ones that had been captured. She hadn't subjected her own iron Pokemon to any of the tests or such... She didn't need to keep him a secret, but she didn't want to subject him to any testing or anything... Just like she didn't want to be tested on or investigated herself.[break][break]
Its digital eyes looked down at itself, one hoof stomping into the grass, the organic life...[break][break]
"It's okay... I understand, you feel lost here... You don't belong here... Maybe one day we can send you back, if you want," Yuina returned, she wasn't sure what kind of capacity the metal creature had for empathy or understanding... But she felt the same way, having lived her short life in Hisui, centuries ago... She could relate.[break][break]
"Let's just go really slow, I... don't know what's down here, but we have a job to do...," Yuina said after a moment more, and with Centos to maybe even guide her, since this was where he had emerged from, the pair headed into the depths.

[attr="class","text"]Onyx hadn’t been here when the amalgamated Kyurem had ripped a giant hole in the world. He hadn’t been here for the first layer of frost, either. He missed a lot of the heavy action by virtue of his own unimportance. It was fine. He preferred it that way.

Staring ahead into the darkness, the flames from Ignis’ mane and tail casting dancing yellow shadows over the almost black ice, Onyx realized he definitely preferred it that way.

He wasn’t curious by nature and had just drawn the short straw of grunt work for Rocket, going in like a Rattata in a maze to start mapping the terrain-- or, failing his return, being the Swablu in the coalmine.

Ignis snorted, drawing him from his melancholy, and Onyx began to walk forward, careful to keep his Rapidash close to illuminate any gaps or cavernous crevasses in the labyrinth. He felt a little bit like that poor guy sent to deal with the Minotaur-- or the guy before the guy who killed it, really. Wooloo to the slaughter.

His footsteps and the steady four-four beat of Ignis’ hooves were comforting in the silence. Every now and then, something skittered in the dark; a falling pebble echoed, the result of some distant shifting earth; the muffled sound of rushing water would get loud, then fade out again.

He stayed on alert, despite the stillness-- who knew what could be ahead, lurking in the dark-- so when he heard the soft tones of a voice, he froze, listening. It sounded human, though he’d had first hand experience with the way certain Pokemon could mimic human speech. He placed one hand on Ignis’ neck, prepped his other with a primed Pokeball, and stepped round the curve in the direction the noise had come from…

Taking the first steps into the depths, the portion of the chasm that had been deemed "Area Zero" by the League and its Officials, Yuina remained close to Centos as she embarked into what was actually unknown territory. She only needed to get an initial lay of the land, see what the environment was like, venture as far as she felt necessary, and maybe come back with a handful of tera crystals for testing to see if they differed at all from what they knew now.[break][break]
In retrospect, that didn't seem too hard, that was something she felt like she could do, anywhere but here... What if that monster came back for them, the one that tore her through its portal and nearly killed her? Or if a mass outbreak of the mechanical monsters emerged again...? Yuina tried not to worry too much, she couldn't let her fears get in the way of her work... She was trying to hard on that on all fronts.[break][break]
The gaping maw that Yuina stepped through consumed them into a cavernous darkness that illluminated Centos' blue energy as they walked, but it wasn't so dark that they couldn't see anything. In fact, it was almost as bright as a city street at night time given the vast amounts of Tera Crystals, huge pillars of them that glowed and shimmered against the cavern walls and the ground. Yuina started to take mental notes for her report, drawing out her issued ranger's device for pictures as well, until Centos stopped beside her. He made no noise, but she could feel him there, that same psychic energy pulling at her a bit.[break][break]
His blue pixel eyes blinked and shifted, glancing behind him, where around a pathway that was just near where she'd come from, it looked like the light of flames dancing along the ground, orange and yellow in hue... It had to be a Pokemon...[break]
Yuina stepped back a bit, placing a hand against Centos' cool metal side, and his own blue energy came alight, and his horns extended and grew in size from the shimmering light energy that flowed through him. He was a beacon now, shining just as bright, if not brighter than the tera crystals around them, and Yuina could only wait and see if what was around the corner would emerged, there was nothing down here that she could imagine that she would want to engage with head on...

[attr="class","text"]Tall slabs of ice caught and refracted light. Warped images flickered in the polished-smooth walls, the world’s most terrifying and cold funhouse mirrors.[break][break]

The corner he turned revealed a treasure-trove of various glimmering crystals. Onyx squinted against the bright, sparkling light. A small part of his brain wondered how on earth they managed to glow, given that there was so little sunlight. [break][break]

An almost-beam of blue light ping-ponged off the tera crystals, refracting in a zig-zag. Onyx paused, following it back to its source.[break][break]

“Oh. You.” His eyes flicked from the woman to her strange, metallic beast. “Nice horse.”

True to her wonderings, as she waited for the flickering fire to round the corner of the cavern she carefully watched... Yuina was right. There was nothing down there in the chasm that she would want to engage with head on... Or at all for that matter.[break][break]
Her eyes narrowed as she stood up straighter beside Centos, bristling at being faced with him yet again. The tension of the moment only brought on the phantom pain of the scars at her sides, her fists clenching.[break]
In a way, her building emotions seemed to feed into Centos' light, the iron sword brimming with energy the more and more Yuina burned at the sight of him, and the way he regarded her.[break][break]
"What are you doing here," Yuina returned sharply, she was almost ready to sent Centos forward, her eyes glancing from him to the Rapidash that stood beside him. If it was another fight, she wasn't going to let him take advantage of her humanity again.

[attr="class","text"]The air was tense, and cold enough to snap. Oh, yeah, she definitely recognized him. Her weird metallic horse thing bowed its head, and Onyx wondered if it was going to charge him. He kept his face forcibly blank, bored, unimpressed, but his body was strung tight, ready to jump out of the way, if necessary.

Part of the issue was he didn’t understand the grounds of her beef with him, because he was a fucked up little goblin who couldn’t grasp the concept of human morality. He thought it was all based in Rocket vs. League.

“What are you doing down here?” he responded, petulant and just a hair shy of childish. The least she could do was compliment his horse back.

Yuina bristled, his petulant tone always present as he only returned her question back to her. If ever there were a moment that she had the urge to run someone into the ground, she was nearly there. All she had to do was give the word and Centos could surely take care of it...[break][break]
"I'm assigned down here. Are you here to get in my way again," she challenged, they may as well get it over with if that were the case. She was ready and willing, she would not let a next encounter with him end like it did before. She was stronger now than she was then, and where she still didn't much care for the arbitrary conflict between rocket and league, if he was there to perpetuate it still, then by all means.

He could tell that she was irritated-- his presence tended to chafe, no surprise there-- and while she could probably demolish him, what with her weird metal horse and all, if he could keep her angry, he could keep her on a back foot.

“What a coincidence,” he said, voice flat, head lolling to the side, “I’m assigned down here, too.”

It took every single muscle in his body-- every well honed instinct, every practiced motion-- to not let his face break into a shit-eating smile.
