A circle too close to another, a line too short compared to the next. And when you combine it with the uneven territory that you might find in a forest, a problem can become a disaster of sorts.[break][break]

Piece by piece she tries, scratches the earth and tries again. All until she creates a replica of a strange circle: One that had appeared when the charm holders had gathered at the park, and upon the dawn of the Darkest Day. In both cases, the Lake Guardians had appeared.[break][break]

She stares at the circle for a moment, then bites her lip as she skirts around the edge.[break][break]

"Back then, I was standing..." A skip over a jutting root, a thoughtful hum as she steps into place. The clearing is filled with silenced, then erupts with vigorous applause, a Ralts squealing from their perch upon a tree branch.[break][break]

Nothing, as expected. She'd be a fool even thinking for a second that some kind of miracle or change might happen. After all, there are far too many questions that surround the meaning of this symbol, the purpose behind it. Even if something did happen -[break][break]

What would she do if something did happen? Isaac Merlo would probably chew her out for messing with the unknown all on her own. But what if it was her and Hideo Kino working hand in hand to crack this puzzle? Would the heat be halved since the blame would be shared between the two of them?[break][break]

Bushes rustle behind her, but her attention barely lifts from the circle as she kneels down to examine it closer.[break][break]

"I thought I told you not to disturb me while I'm messing around with this, Dandori."

"stop looking for more pokemon! one's enough for now."

kyle's voice rings in the forest as he accompanies a child from his hometown. she holds a pokeball in her hand, with a mightyena walking closely beside her, which she drops, startled by the presence of another person.

the champion whistles a tune as he watches her run away, too shy for interactions with strangers.

he grumbles and picks up the ball she dropped. he motions for the mightyena to follow after her, handing the ball to his pokemon. "escort her back to the trainer school, okay!" he instructs his pokemon before it, too, disappears to the woods.

a sigh escapes kyle. he recognizes the person they walked up to, and surprisingly remembers her name that comes with her face. just the first name though.

he walks up, careful not to disturb her drawings, as he watches her etch the ground.

"who's dandori?" he asks softly to make his presence known, oddly curious about her work.

[attr="class","inner-finally"]Even a voice that's unexpected is enough to startle, the girl hopping to her feet and spinning around. Nerves push her a few steps back, the sliding of her boot smudging the edges of her creation as she looks to the champion.[break][break]

"M- mister Kyle!" She shifts a little to block his view, actively scuffing her heel against the ground as if attempting to hide or scratch out the pattern. "What are you doing out here in a place like..." And she'll vaguely gesture to the surrounding. "... this?"[break][break]

Up above, she can hear the muffled snickers, the perpetrator long hidden amidst the sprawling canopy. If only they'd bothered to warn her of the unexpected company. Or were they still holding a grudge over not having been able to see the champion for themselves?[break][break]

Given how petty the Lake Guardian could be over a juice pack, she really should've seen this coming.

"upholding the creed of the league to help those in need," he answers with a deadpan tone as a blatant excuse. "one of the neighborhood kids wanted to catch their own first pokemon, and, well, offered to help out."

he takes a look back. it's clear that she already ran away, startled by her own social anxiety with meeting a stranger. she had his mightyena with her, at least.

eyes go back to eris. "does this dandori guy like, uh, summoning circles?"

curiosity takes hold more than the need for familiarity with her for him to be too casual.

he's not sure what to make of the symbols she has been carving to the ground, he stares at it longer, wondering if he knows of it. he might be looking at it from a different angle, but part of him wasn't invested enough to wrack his brain for an answer.

"it looks like if it did come, it would be telling bad news."

his eyes continue to burn the image on his head, though it fizzles out almost immediately. maybe he'd recall it on a later date when it becomes relevant to him, but for now, it just looks like one of those drawings of intricate patterns teenagers draw at the back of their notebooks.

"they say shaymin are the gratitude pokemon, so i'm guessing they will return a favor. the thought of it disturbing you if you told it not to should be, um, disturbing, no?"

eris was trained with rocket indoctrination in mind. he assumed it's her reflex to think that her shaymin barging in was a possible consequence of her actions.

although each pokemon was an individual, kyle makes inferences from their pokedex entries. the only way it can show gratitude while breaking an instruction was if there was a greater consequence not to.

or maybe he's just thinking too much. the patterns on the ground do induce such thinking.

"does this mean this stuff is illegal?" he asks, shifting his words to a tease to pry away from the more
stressful direction he was heading with.

kyle was a person that would rather keep things light.

he assumes she's talking about the suicune avatar since he's seen Isaac Merlo with her on parties and similar events.

isaac, navy... the names, alongside the behavior she was showing, gives kyle enough to work with to finally smoothly transition to a sensitive topic that most people would find awkward.

"oh, yeah, that reminds me, have you talked to navy or merlo about the mesprit thing?"

with choi out of the picture, he supposed the two of them would be her de facto guardians, especially if the latter has a pokemon watching over her. navy, too, has a soft spot for kids, ironically enough.

it's nice to see Navy letting loose after being too strict with his brother once upon a time.

"alone in the woods... wouldn't that make you a prime target?"

for drk triad or rocket who wants to harness mesprit's ability to make the chain during the darkest day, he presumes.

she seemed acquainted with the two already anyways. if anything, they might understand how to talk to her more than him. as it is, they're more strangers who know each others names as opposed to a person who lends their pokemon to her, or someone who lets them decorate their gym..

he tries to wave it off with a motion of his hand, dismissing the topic if she wasn't interested in discussing it after the stunt she pulled off during the kyurem event.

"it's just something about you being in the spotlight now," he clarifies. "but i guess that's not something new for you and your current situation. you already know the precautions, probably."

as someone who ran away from rocket, it wasn't difficult to think that it was the case.

She knows of monitoring, of the awkward check-ins to make sure she hasn't run off again. Sure Hideo Kino has told her about the whole... having to talk to more League people. And he has assured her that he gets to do what he usually does. But just the thought of having to meet more strangers, more who are related to the beating heart of this organisation, makes her feel that uncomfortable flutter in her chest. As if she wasn't already small enough, her presence seems to grow even smaller as she slowly curls up into herself. As she unconsciously begins to chew upon the tip of her thumb.[break][break]

Scared of experimentations, of the things that they did to Balder Schwartz. Of being trapped in a room with another person she barely knows. Of having things be done under the pretense of it being good for her. Of eyes, all those eyes looking at her.[break][break]

A heart that will not still coaxes the silent from their hiding. A Ralts alights upon her shoulders in a puff of pink, pulling her hand away from her lips and cooing as they gently tap at her palm.[break][break]

her reaction tells him that she answered the question herself. there's no need to explain in detail what his words entail when she came to the realization.

"eyes of those who want mesprit." he would mention both the drk triad and rocket, but that was already a given.

he gets her though. he technically was in the same position for simply doing his job as a peacekeeper.

"i don't want to be under it too, but it's just the consequence of taking action."

the difference is that he isn't oblivious to the nature of the universe. survival of the fittest was always the rule, and the world just evolved to change the definition of the strong.

"it's not that bad. you get to protect people after all, right?" he never got to pay attention to it in the heat of the moment, but he's aware of her deed during kyurem's attack. "you just need to adapt to it, i guess."

he turns to the direction of where the kid and his mightyena ran off.

"why don't you stay with someone else until another person becomes the center of attention?" he asks, eyes away from her and her drawing on the ground. "just not to be alone while you have a potential target on your head."

Isaac Merlo, Navy, John Sullivan, Eva Morales... Avatars and big names surrounded her, overshadowing her presence. And even if people did perceive her, their first thought would not be Mesprit's chosen but rather, Rocket defector. Or even impertinent child that doesn't understand her place in this war.[break][break]

Perhaps, she doesn't. Just like how she doesn't understand why the League would be so invested in looking for Mesprit now. After all, they hadn't been trying that hard after the attack on Littleroot. Nor after the Lake Guardians fled with injuries from shadow pokemon on the day of Necrozma's revival.[break][break]

As if privy to her thoughts, the Ralts upon her shoulder grows restless, cooing as molten gold eyes peer from under a green veil.[break][break]

"I've been safe as is... Won't that all change if more people know about us?"

kyle wonders if eris just wants to argue by saying these statements. nonetheless, he ignores those and concentrates on her last question.

"who knows? nothing's ever been logical in hoenn."

because there were always people who say they don't want to be in the spotlight or danger, but will always find their way to make excuses out of their presence in the most dangerous scenarios of the region.

he has long accepted that he will never understand what happens in the mind of an average resident of hoenn.

"i just personally err on the side of caution. it doesn't mean anything i say or do will be useful though."

despite his title and status, he wasn't special as an individual.

"if you think you're safe, then maybe i'm just worrying about nothing. carry on your drawing then."
