dark echoes waltz across the terastal cavern walls. shadowy footsteps. unintelligible whispers. even when operating on their lonesomee, there is little noise made.[break][break]

kyle laughs it out. there's something gold about noah expecting him not to make the most logical decision to get the result he wants when faced with emotional distress.

"don't worry. i know how to get to my win condition."

it's a vague statement that neither claims nor denies the promise that noah attempts to make him take.

the champion doesn't expect much for himself, but he is aware of the tools in his disposal should push come to shove. if the storyteller doesn't will for it to happen, then he knows the right people to approach to bring the possibility up.

he leans his head over noah's and nuzzles on his hair. "you should be the one telling yourself that."

kyle is aware that noah would kill himself for his sake. he would rather not come to that.

kyle's right. any advice noah had would pale to the experience the champion cultivated from the battlefield. in the quiet of war's prelude, noah thumbs his insecurities. dulls the silver shine of his merits. he does not recognize how he knits this plastic cat's cradle in kyle's shadow.[break][break]

"you're right." noah leans his head into kyle's. his voice is hushed and darkens by by the second. "so, we're going in guns blazing? or like, quiet like zorua?"

fear grips on kyle as noah presents him with their choices. there's a difference with being apathetic with the situation and not letting fear cloud his judgement.

he looks at noah, and decides to look at him not as a green unit that needed to be escorted to the end of the level, but as a resource he can use. it's the best thing he can do to keep losses at a minimum.

"quiet," he answers. "you know how to put them to sleep with a choke, right?"

using pokemon is risky given that the natural response to it is to bring out their own. besides, it was foolish to come here without utilizing tools in their disposal.

with fear comes caution, and kyle is one of the people who takes it seriously more than any other.

slowly, noah's finger pushes the button on his ultra ball. from it, a scarf of spectral energy unfurls into a haunter's shape. its claws rise like blood moons.[break][break]

the gym leader takes a few steps forward before peering back.

kyle pats the flexed arm as well. it was an intrusive thought forcing itself out, but he offers no apologies when he realizes.

instead, he acts like nothing happened and withdraws his hand.

as noah prepares to take out a guard, kyle mentally prepares himself for the next few steps that would follow. the release of the haunter meant that he has less need to be alert, concentrating his effort to the anticipated course of action instead.

"ready."

ash spreads underneath him as a safety precaution, though if all goes according to plan, there would be no need for him to use the contingency plan he had set up.

when noah's arm is felt, he doesn't mind. it's like a stress ball. pressures must be relieved for their silent strike—and as kyle withdraws his greedy hand, noah's smile—thick with knowing and cool surenes—rises alongside his HAUNTER'S.[break][break]

"aight. let's go."[break][break]

with careful choreography, noah darts across the crystalline cave. his footfalls are quiet: a practiced gait noah was coerced to learn.[break][break]

as the gym leader finds the first assassin, noah's HAUNTER is quick to shroud around a spying UNOWN. in tandem, they force them to sleep by ghostly gases and flexed arms.[break][break]

noah looks back for kyle, flashing him a thumbs up as several unown stir nearby.

out of morbid curiosity, he finds himself unmasking the one that noah knocked out. he blames noah for teasing him to follow his intrusive thoughts.

kyle takes out his phone and double checks the setting. everything is set so that silence can be observed.

he takes a picture of the guy.

the mask is returned to cover the drk triad member's face since he's respectful. part of him was tempted to take the entire costume, but it grossed him out.

"alright. let's move."

before kyle can call upon a pokemon, noah's HAUNTER croons a quiet melody. the PERISH SONG weaves into the surrounding UNOWN. after several paces, the black cyclopes peel away from building walls and drop from table bellies.[break][break]

before his own HAUNTER faints, it slithers back into noah's pokeball.[break][break]

"just need to take out the squad leader." noah says.[break][break]

he hides behind several metal crates. a finger points out a taller figure clad in all black like the rest. however, they bear the DRK TRIAD LOGO proudly on a cape.[break][break]

"two hostiles patroling around him." the gym leader says, beckoning for kyle. "they're going to notice that their unown are fainted if we don't act fast."

he's going to check if the database has information about the face he just took, then he can figure out if these grunts are clones, just like what they saw from the cloud, or people from another dimension.

though his personal objective has been completed, it was time to finish the job he was going to be paid or.

"i got it," he assures noah.

kyle takes out a pokeball, taking a rotom out. inconspicuous as it is, it travels as plasma to paralyze the guy with thunder wave, causing him to seize up and fall forward on his face.

"time to loot."
