finding a spot to settle in is not difficult. all she has to do is jeer loud enough and throw out her elbows wide enough and people inevitably move. give her an inch and she'll take a mile. so that's how they end up with a nice table to themselves (if nice were grease-stained wood with hundreds of initials carved into it). 

she doles out the food and chows down immediately, stuffing fries in her face with one hand while she shakes out ketchup and mustard with the other. 

her eyes go briefly to nomi when she mentions the gay dog, but she doesn't have any bigger of a revelation than that and anyway, she tries not to think about isaac and nomi's subsequent treason by continuing to talk to him. nope. no, sirree.

her throat does strain a little bit when nomi asks after what avery does. you'd think being in a crime syndicate long enough would teach you not to ask questions like what do you do when the thing you do is curb revolutions and stick bodies in the ground.

"she just got back from kanto," she says around a mouthful, "so the world's 'er fuckin' oyster, right, sis?"

Nomi, thankfully, didn’t seem too upset about being told how her girlfriend was going to act. Avery was grateful and continued to score points in the good people column.

Nomi will take care of her, she thought, pushing meat sauce around with a french fry, when I kick the bucket.

Parker fights for their seats like a bull Walrein fighting for a place to set up his harem.

The bit about Suicune goes over her head-- she’s distracted trying to pick up a pickle between two fries, first of all, and secondly, she doesn’t give a rats ass for legendaries or gods or whomst the fuck ever.

Nomi asks what she does for a living and she pauses, mid crunch. “Uh.” She can suddenly feel herself sweating, and it isn’t the meat sweats, not quite yet.

I kill children, Nomi. I commit war crimes. I never feel more at ease than when my hands are around someone else’s throat.

“R-right,” she says, thankful Parker swoops in to save her. “All oyster-y, and shtuff. Minus the aphrodisiac bits. Or maybe plus them? I dunno yet.”

she's only trying to help, parker tells herself, but still, it's hard not to choke on her fries when nomi swerves back from the safe zone and into the fire pit. lots of low level grunts don't agree with kanto's methods, but hoenn's a baby fuckin' kanto and the work they're doing - she cuts the thought off, not wanting to start a fight over sloppy burgers and fries. 

still, she gives nomi a warning glance and then flicks a chicken nugget at her sister. maisey drools, waiting to see if it'll tumble to their feet. 

"allll the aphrodisiac bits. if i can get a girl like nomes, means there's hope for us joneses after all."

Nomi takes the news-- a correction, really, like dogs scrawling around a carcass, not wolves, more like feral hounds, snapping jaws and lolling tongues, all body language and learning, pushing boundaries and flashing teeth back and forth-- quite well. Like she knows that’s all Rocket is, all it will ever be, murderers and criminals and war, staunch-ribbed beasts clamoring for cadavers.

“Ah, don’t worry ‘bout it,” she says, hoping to smooth over all the troubled waters, all the little incurrents and burbling shallows that want to wind and pool together to become some maelstrom tidal wave. She doesn’t grasp the height of Nomi’s providence in Rocket but she doubts she has enough sway to make things better for the cast off bits and pieces like herself. “It’s all find in the end, right? I got here. Back here. Eventually.”

Her hand snaps up and, in a motion that perhaps hinted at the instincts and reflexes that Kanto beat into her-- or it was just something she’d never be able to do again, ever-- catches the chicken nugget in the palm of her hand and stuffs it into her mouth. Her palm is salty with sweat and fry grease.

“Maybe! Nomi is an INSANE pull. Sorry, I know that’s weird to say because you’re sitting right there, but one hundred percent there’s no way in hell I ever thought either of us would end up with someone… good, you know?”

avery is, of course, no stranger to parker's previous romps in the hay. her tastes are painfully predictable, all bubblegum and sugar-sweet with a dangerously delectable edge. and nomi's no different, really, in that way. 

but at least she's not like millie, who took a shit on her front stoop and then deigned to text her 'wyd' less than a week later. 

parker munches on her fries, the sacks that are her cheeks mostly full with potato and half-chewed chicken, while nomi reddens and gestures at her. she doesn't mind being talked about, and it's kind of funny nomi talking about her more sexy bits to her sister. 

"yah, i got all the good looks from ma 'n pa." about the only good thing they got from them. her lip quirks and she swallows before waggling her brows at avery. "note that she talked 'bout my abs first. when we hittin' the gym together again, lil sis?"

Avery lifted a cheese-coated fry up for the K-shaped being, wondering how on earth it would consume. Phage, right? That was the fancy word for it. Or something.

“Listen, you haven’t done any defecating, nor have you shown up at her work and tried to burn it down.” She twitched the fry. “Uh. I’m assuming. Anyway, that means you're good in my book.”

She glanced down at her nigh-empty tray.

“Ugh, prolly gonna have to, after this, huh?”
