The crystals of Area Zero shine as bright as stars in all their myriad colors, reds, blues, greens, browns, yellows, purples, they all twinkle down on the girl who chases the future with their kind lights and judgemental gazes. "Only you can bring forth the future you so desperately chase after," they say to her.

"Only you can sort the wheat from the chaff Xenon, only you can clear the path," they say with passionate cheers and encouragement. She hears and sees all, her blood boils in her veins as she rides upon Phosphorus and directs her steely gaze towards the horde of Paradox Pokemon encroaching on her present. They emerge from the Tera Crystals in puffs of pink mist, peeling from their respective pasts and futures, hungry for existence as they trample upon what is here and now.

"Let's go Phosphorus, Tachyon Cutter!" Its horns glow bright blue and its Quark Drive hums in its breast, blades faster than light slice through three prehistoric Jigglypuffs in a spray of gore, a splatter of pink gunk impacts against Xenon's cheek and leaves a streak of neon color upon her pale skin. It doesn't matter, she's already moving to the next group as Sulfur and Chlorine trail closely behind in her wake.

"To all those listening! I don't care if you're League, Rocket, man, woman, if you hate me, if you've never met me, if you literally just woke up here and have no idea what's going on! What matters is that these beasts think they can trample on our future and pick our lands clean to fill their bellies! Leave none standing!!!"

With such a brilliant display of confidence, yelling into the clearly empty cavern, this lady surely isn't right in the head. Then again, it takes a certain kind of special to be diving in these depths all by yourself.[break][break]

Should they interfere? From the way that they run into a whole crowd of paradoxes and begin slaughtering one after another, she... really doesn't want to be anywhere close. Even creatures constructed of dreams and mist bleed, their lifeless bodies left on the ground amidst a bloody canvas of their own innards.[break][break]

Closing her eyes doesn't take away the stench, her arms wrapped around the dear Luxray by her side. And he watches the rampage with a look of disdain, keeping her close in their little alcove above this mess.[break][break]

Sure, these creatures are dangerous. Destroyers of the ecosystem, unnatural existences that really should be corrected. But the thing about these paradoxes is that they are creations of the mind. And the more one seeks to eliminate them, the more they seem to proliferate. Without taking care of the source, they simply spawn like Bunearies, a few more always ready to replace the one felled.[break][break]

Problem is, how exactly does one go about taking care of the source when this whole cavern is essentially carved out of it?

Whether or not anyone specifically heeded Xenon's words, the battle had begun regardless. A veritable wave of Paradox Pokemon crashes into the Iron Swords' guards as they continue slashing and crushing every single Pokemon that emerges from the Tera Crystals, it might seem like an impossible task at first but Xenon knows that even these crystalline constructs that reach into time can only produce so much.

But so much is still very much a lot, dozens of Iron Treads and Sandy Shocks throwing their bodies at Phosphorus, Sulfur, and Chlorine to take up their attention for just a few seconds. These Iron Swords were still pseudo-legendary, they could take this kind of heat without flinching, but even they would have to dedicate their full power to stemming this tide to keep them from getting away.

And that was all the opening that the squadron of Iron Bundles needed as they charge at Xenon from her flank, their metallic claws clanking against the stone floor and grabbing Xenon's attention mid-command. "Shit! Regroup, regroup!" Even as she says it she knows its an impossible ask, if any of them break the frontline then it's just going to leave her open to attack from a stray Iron Treads running her over. It's a good thing she always has a personal guard by her side as Argon bubbles up from her shadow and blasts one of the Iron Bundles with a powerful Hex, but she was still outnumbered by 5 to 1.

[attr="class","inner-finally"]Considering how many people have found themselves drawn in despite the warnings, seeing the Iron Swords that had first been spied at the desperate fight against Kyurem doesn't come as much of a surprise. And no matter how strong they may be, they will eventually be run over by the sheer multitude of paradoxes being produced by the crystals around them.[break][break]

"You're not really a good matchup for them..." She murmurs, fingers sinking into messy fur and carefully untangling the knots. "Will you still help me?"[break][break]

A soft snort is her answer, the Luxray slowly getting to his feet.[break][break]

Whistle, click. In an instant, a storm explodes from the earth itself, a Rising Voltage surging forth and mercilessly swallowing the Iron Bundles. The light that sparkles within her sync stone empowers him with a boost of confidence, the currents growing stronger as he seeks to break up the enemy vanguard.

She's fighting them off as best as she can, but she's running out of time and options. Infinity Energy begins to gather in her hand as she considers Mega Evolving Argon, but the kind of power she'd be throwing around then would be too much to restrain just to the Paradoxes, she'd be attacking everyone. Whittling down her own forces was just as bad as being overrun, the thought of retreat crosses her mind-

And then a hero comes to save the day.

Xenon's head swivels towards the Luxray and the trainer who had sent it out, a familiar young girl looks down on her with worry in her eyes, the Ultramodernist grins as she snaps her fingers and recalls Argon back into her shadow. "Well well, took you long enough girl! Thanks for the save, hope you plan on sticking around!" She calls out as the Iron Swords finally finish off their wave of Paradoxes, quickly rushing back to Xenon's side and surrounding her in a quick and dirty triangle formation.

Her eyes break from Eris's and her grin quickly fades, a sharp whistle escapes her mouth and a burst of Psyshock energy escapes from Phosphorus's horn and blows apart an Iron Hands that was jumping for Eris's back now that her Luxray wasn't as close anymore. "And that makes us even already! I'd suggest you get down here, you're an easy target when you're by yourself up there!"

She knows she'll get in trouble if she goes down there, if she gets caught helping this person. In general, she'd be in trouble if anyone spotted her here, but it's a bit late to back out now.[break][break]

Faint trails of pink flit in her shadows, an unseen force suppressed now that the imminent threat is gone. In all seriousness, she probably would've been fine and will continue to be fine even if she chooses to stay up here. But she cannot command Reiner effectively if she keeps losing sight of him within the swarm.[break][break]

The Luxray sidles up to Eris, one brow raises as his gaze briefly darts towards the woman and looks back to her. When she slings an arm over his shoulder and hops right on, down the both of them go, warily circling around the group.[break][break]

"It's better to leave this place than keep fighting."

She almost seems smug as Eris hops down into the swarm next to her, like she won some kind of battle only she knew she was fighting by convincing the young girl to join her fight. "Don't worry so much about the faction sh- stuff. Right now we're just two trainers on the frontier of a new land, stuff like allegiances and borders are meaningless when you're fighting against the tide of nature." She can read the worry in the girl's eyes, she couldn't blame her. Even a maniac like herself could recognize just how bad it was to be seen with a maniac like herself if you were trying to keep prim and proper in polite society.

And the kid was only a kid after all. Xenon could hardly blame her for being worried about the opinions of adults.

"Better is the wrong word to use. Safer probably. Better? No, it wouldn't be better for anybody. Sacred Sword in unison, three two one!" Her attention darts towards her Iron Swords as another wave of Iron Treads approaches, their counterattack is coordinated and smooth as they cut into the rolling tanks and force them back for another trainer to finish. "If everyone here thought like that, then there wouldn't be anyone around to keep these guys from overrunning Area Zero and pouring into the outside world. Even a selfish b- girl like me knows that someone's gotta make the sacrifice to secure the future. Chlorine, charge Solar Blade, Sulfur, keep them at bay with a Rock Tomb!" Once again the horde encroaches, once again the trio work in tandem to hold them off. It's strange watching these mechanical approximations of heroes work as defenders of the natural world, fighting their brethren with the same zeal that their originals hold.

"Besides, the crystals can only produce so much for so long. I've been studying the Terastal Crystals for a few months now, they're not unlimited founts of energy. By my calculations, if we can beat back this wave then we should be good for a day or two." And then she'd do it all over again.

If worrying about factions truly mattered to her at the end of the day, she would've had more wrinkles than that dehydrated piece of lettuce in a McDonphan burger. At the end of the day, no matter what she did, they would always look at her with those same disdainful looks, their opinions unchanged whether she lives up to the image of a terrorist in their heads or not.[break][break]

"Don't these creatures form from active imaginations in the vicinity?" Raising a brow, she barely has a raise a hand as a cruel lightning strikes the lunging Iron Jugulis behind them. "If we remove the number of people in the area feeding it ideas, the number should be kept low enough for a small team to sweep them."[break][break]

Way easier said than done given the curiosity and various agendas of Hoennians. Hell, that thought crosses her head right after she makes the suggestion, but the idea still remains. And well, there's no telling if an already formed paradox will disappear on its own given time. Nor if they've already passed the threshold of no return in all the time that the two factions have spent cave diving.[break][break]

"Eh... if we're gonna take care of them, we could at least be a bit more efficient with it."[break][break]

A whistle breaks the slumber of the earth, the air beginning to grow hotter as it wavers. And from the ground, Magma erupts in a large area, encircling the approaching paradox pokemon in a scorching Storm. No safe ground to tread upon, no paths left to escape with - Any that try to leap or fly high into the sky get struck by a volatile Lava Plume, burning their limbs and sending them crashing back towards the ground.

Xenon shakes her head in the negative to Eris's question, there was still no published studies as to exactly how Tera Crystals work, whether they drew power from the people around them or the earth itself was a matter for debate. What Xenon definitely knew though was that they couldn't produce Paradox Pokemon infinitely, if they could then it would have been a problem way beforehand when the Tera Crystals first started popping up all over Hoenn.

"Efficiency is good, crowd control and forming up good front lines is key to maintaining position in any war, whether it's with people or Pokemon. Looks like you've got this position covered, counting on you to keep up the good work kid~" The Rocket scientist pats Eris on the head and ruffles her hair a little, before putting her hand to her lips and letting out a sharp whistle towards her Iron Swords. The robotic guardians immediately hop back as Eris's Volcanion creates a plume of volcanic lava below the group they were just fighting, retreating to Xenon's side as she grabs onto Phosphorus's side and saddles up in one smooth motion. "We're on the last wave now kid, promise! All we gotta do is hold these guys off and we're in the clear, my calculations promise it!" And with that she rides off towards another spot on the front lines, leaving Eris to hold off the last stragglers and to ponder a bit more on just what the differences were between Rocket and League.
