Lex stared down at the Great Chasm with a rather apathetic gaze, hard to read. This wasn’t her first excursion into the scar that now marred the Icelands. It was dangerous, but thrilling. She didn’t have an agenda in the Chasm, she was just here because Yumi Hasegawa suggested it. Mei Liu wanted to explore and a little back up wouldn’t hurt. It definitely had nothing to do with the fact that Mei was, in fact, a beautiful woman.

For now, things were eerily quiet as they wandered down the rocky path dotted with magnificent masses of Tera Crystals. Lex’s shadow flexes, stretching across the ground in an unnatural manner. It shot forward, scouting ahead for any of the dangerous beasts they had previously encountered, “I wouldn’t recommend wandering off,” not that she didn’t think the woman could handle herself, Lex didn't' judge like that. It just really wasn’t a safe place, and she certainly didn’t want to piss of Yumi by letting her roommate get killed.

The first thing Mei noticed about Alexandra Briarwood was her grace. She moved like a Liepard, cat-like and nimble. There was a familiarity to it that Mei instantly recognized - for she, too, had been trained in the art of killing. Her companion was a deadly beauty, and Mei quickly realized that Yumi Hasegawa had found another sword for her collection, this one subtler than Hitoshi Inoue but no less dangerous.[break][break]
"I wouldn't dream of it," Mei responded playfully, lips curling into a grin in response to the other woman's cautionary warning. Lex was a tightly wound thread, and Mei intended to unravel her, inch by inch.[break][break]
"So how did you meet Yumi?" She asked pleasantly, opening the floor for mundane conversation, as they traversed through a landscape that was anything but ordinary.[break][break]
Sweat beaded at the back of Mei's neck; the air inside the chasm was surprisingly humid, despite being underground. It wasn't the strangest place Mei had been, however. The rifts that haloed their region were some of the most incredible - and perilous - places Mei had ever seen.[break][break]

Lex led the way by a few steps, leading them deeper into the bowels of the insatiable chasm. Lex appreciated Mei was at least not foolish. Well, it was too early to tell but she seemed to be amenable to her suggestions which was a good start.

Amber eyes briefly drifted over to her companion when she subtly pried into the more personal life of the thief. Anything more than the task at hand Lex deemed personal - which chase guarded carefully. She would indulge Mei if only for Yumi’s sake.

“We grew up together in Johto,” is all she offered as an explanation. It should be enough to quench her curiosity, she hoped. Lex wasn’t much for small talk, but at the risk of further prying she turned the question back to Mei, “How did you two become roommates?” In all honesty, Lex would have never pegged Yumi as someone who needed (or wanted) a roommate which inspired her own suspicions in regards to their relationship.

But there were obviously gaps in Lex's understanding of Yumi - her recent history, at least. Her question betrayed that much, and Mei grew suddenly contemplative. She cared for Yumi and did not want to reveal too much about her circumstances lest it hurt her reputation in some way.[break][break]
"When she first arrived in Hoenn, she was looking to save money. She was also new to the region. A roommate can share costs and also provide companionship in a brand new city." She smiled, remembering their first dinner together. "The former was more important to her at the time, but I do believe she has come to appreciate the later."[break][break]
Of course, Mei had also been the one to introduce Yumi to Heonn Rocket. Did Lex have ties to Rocket, too?[break][break]
"If you're from Johto, why are you here now? Yumi's loyal dog - the bodyguard, I'm sure you've seen him - followed her here. Did you do the same, or did you two run into each other out of happenstance?"[break][break]
Lex might not be the talkative sort, but Mei was not easily cowed. A sullen frown, suspicious eyes - they weren't enough to quiet her curiosity.[break][break]
