Greyson sat atop a boulder, legs hanging, swinging them back and forth. The glow of the crystals gave just enough light to see, and the ambiance of running water somewhere deeper in the cavern relaxes the Elite Four member.

Without looking down at the younger woman, he poses a question, his tone carrying none of the apprehension he felt inside.

"What do you know about the DRK Triad Robin?"

This mission had consequences that were far-reaching, dimension-spanning, even. She needed to understand the ramifications of joining this war. Her very life could depend on it.

Sinistea chimes pleasantly as Robin approaches Greyson. A 'long time, no see' sits on her tongue, but she doesn't share it. He looks relaxed, but she knows from chatter that these excursions are more grim than a general exploration. Much more is at stake, but Robin doesn't understand all of it. It has something to do with the crystals. Something to do with the potential for violence against Rockets who are here, too, somewhere.

His question catches her off-guard. "Um," she starts, trying to recall a conversation she had with a more seasoned Ranger about rising threats, "I know they use Unown. Um, probably in a bad way. Their intentions are bad. I don't really know what they do." It's not a great answer.

For all she's experienced, she should be more involved in the larger conflicts. But she gets caught up in the day-to-day of being a Ranger, and it's hard to want to add the stress of catastrophic violence to her plate. "Are they here?" She didn't think Unown were in an area like this. She associated them with cryptic ruins.

"They aren't here." He says, emphasizing the first word, a deep exhale following his sentence. "But their followers are."

He considers what to tell her, not wanting to lower his standing in her eyes by admitting that he's had very, very little interaction with the primary group. That being said, they were a threat to all, and he'd been briefed on the risk they posed.

"The DRK Triad typically directs its efforts towards Hoenn's Avatars — League, or Team Rocket's. They are responsible for the death of one of my predecessors, and friend." He gritted his teeth against the rage that surfaces. "Know that for your own personal safety, should you ever be chosen. But, don't make the mistake in believing that you are safe. They seek the destruction of our reality in the end after all."

Pushing himself to his feet with a grunt, he wipes the grime from his palms on the back of his pants.

"Back to the reason we're here: they've decided to set up camp nearby. And—"

He gives her a grin, eyes wide enough to express clear excitement, and could nearly be considered manic.

"—We're going to make sure they regret that decision. A lot. Any questions?"

What she thinks will be a crash course quickly crashes and burns into something grim and somber. She didn't associate those words with the easy-going Greyson, but it's been a while since she's seen him. She believes everything he is saying, but she is rendered mute by the manic expression on his face. He's more intense than she's ever seen.

Time changes everyone. She isn't sure what to make of him, yet, but she nods like a good Ranger. "Get rid of the reality-hating baddies. Got it." Despite the verbage, her expression turns more serious. She is familiar with feeling unsafe at the hands of Rocket and doesn't want anyone else to experience it - Rocket, DRK, it didn't matter. "I've got my heavy hitters with me."

Sinistea clinked behind her as they headed into area zero. "Even got Snorlax to learn to mega-evolve. Been making good on that promise to beat you whenever I challenge you." She tried to balance levity with seriousness while she pondered Greyson's evolution. He seemed as solid as ever, but the foundation wasn't his ideals about teamwork or anything she knew. This was more drastic and life-or-death than their previous missions.

His expression softens as he approaches. Violet hues look at, and perhaps even look through her.

"This battle doesn't need to be yours," he says in a rare moment of channeling his position's weight, and authority.

"You can turn back right now — enjoy your youth, the thrill of gym battles, and the dream of being a Champion one day."

War aged you; numbed you to the things that were important. Robin was young, too young, and it simply wasn't fair to ask her to follow him into this den.

He tries to bleed in an iota of humor, to offset the seriousness of his offer.

"—Not that you'd ever defeat me, but, I encourage lofty dreams."

He smiles, though the humor doesn't quite reach his eyes. He's too focused; too angry.

"The second you step into this fight, you'll find it's nearly impossible to step away from it."

It takes a long moment for Robin to realize how serious he is. She could recount her recent victories in area zero or even refer to the different lessons she has taken lately from riding with Josh to battling with Annalise, but she doesn't need her resume in this moment. He's offering her a no-shame exit. He just doesn't know it isn't an option she can take.

"I stepped into this fight back when I accepted my Ranger armband." She tugged on it emphatically; unlike last time they met, she bore the cadet band instead of the rookie one. "I gave my word then, and I stand on it now." She turned towards the cave again, undeterred despite his offer. "If reality is at stake, it's my duty to protect it, just like you." He might have had some years and experience on her, sure, but she was going to beat him someday.

"I'm not quitting on you, so let's make these guys pound sand, yeah?"

Robin's words spark the fire in his smirk, the Elite Four member placing a gentle hand on her shoulder as his conviction bleeds into his eyes.

"Good answer. Try to remember that when you're in thick of it — it'll help."

Mist seeps up from the cracks in the stone beneath them, but Greyson doesn't react to it, at least, not negatively. Instead, he seems to grow more excited with each passing second.

"Hope you skipped lunch."

The power of his Delphox settles over them and in the blink of an eye, the duo are TELEPORTED. As the effect settles, they would find themselves standing nearby the Witch Pokemon, overlooking a medium-sized camp. While it did not bustle with energy, there were clear signs of life.

Clearing his throat and cracking his neck, he surveys the encampment below. It was surrounded on 3-sides by the strange crystalline rock, with half-a-dozen patrols or gathered hood members scattered throughout.

He poses a question to the girl beside him.

"Ideas, Elite Ranger?"

Her stomach flips as the Delphox teleports them, but she didn't chain six rides during last summer's festival for nothing. She reorients herself in a few moments - psychic moves and pokemon always trigger a visceral disgust - and locks in. She watches the camp alongside him and considers the question. "I think something sudden and environmental will throw 'em off. I can chain a blizzard and something sound-based to make it impossible to get their wits together, and you can start knocking 'em off their feet." The cold temperature might disrupt some of their equipment, though she can't be sure what they have. Ice could also disrupt access to the natural tera crystals, if any of them felt so inclined as to use one's raw power.

Her reliable trio of late hasn't let her down just yet. She tosses Snorlax on the ledge below to give him some space to work. "Blizzard, please." He hums agreeably while she releases Toxtricity. "Use psychic noise." Toxtricity is so happy to use anything sound-related that she permits the use of the psychic assault. Her pokemon act as she commanded, using blizzard and psychic noise. The camp below erupts in a confused, chilly uproar in response.

Greyson takes the role of a bird of a prey as he watches, and studies, those beneath him. From on high it was nearly impossible to keep the inkling of a God Complex at bay; each person below living on their whim, ignorant to what will soon befall them.

Once he might've recoiled in disgust at such a thought. However, more and more Greyson found himself warming up to the idea, like a dog curled up beneath the radiator in winter.

Robin's plan pulls him from his musings, and he chuckles as he glances at his Delphox through his peripheral.

"And you just wanted to drop a boulder on them. This is more fun, isn't it?"

Around him an orange-white light begins to spill out from beneath his clothing, and a crown of violet flame hovers inches from his temple. The activation of his SYGNA SUIT empowers the bond between Elite Four and Delphox, and a calm, like a placid lake, fills him entirely.

Effortlessly the two descend on PSYCHIC power. Like peasants gathering to listen to their Monarch's royal decree, those few members of the DRK Triad lucky enough to look up can only stare in awe as destruction meets them with a grin.
