rory goes quiet, but sylvie is too focused on making perfect cuts into the meat to notice. cassie, sensing they're about to eat, flicks one ear. sylvie's record player flicks on and soft kalosian music plays. a glance to the side from sylvie, two more flicks of cassie's ear, and the music is lowered to a respectable volume.

the cat yawns and curls back up to sleep.

"alright, dig in."

she takes another sip of her wine and starts helping herself to some of rory's pasta. "got any jobs lined up after graduation?"

"thanks for the meal!" aaron singsongs to his favorite older sister, clasping his hands together as though he's in prayer to some higher power for giving him such a good family. he bows his head toward his hands like he's actually praying over the food, but in reality he's just mentally preparing himself to open his throat and swallow it all down with minimal chewing. [break][break]as soon as sylvie tells him to dig in, he's loosed like a well-behaved growlithe sitting beside its slow-feeder bowl. he stands to get a better vantage point over the spread (optimal) and starts putting food on his plate. for better or for worse, he lets rory and sylvie talk without any quips — mostly because he puts his head down and starts scarfing everything down as soon as he sits again. [break][break]sylvie's question is accompanied with the ugly sound of the side of a metal fork scraping against a ceramic plate.
