[attr="class","callie2"] early dusk spread across the sky in hues of orange and pink, casting a beautiful light across the valley's edge. patrol was always boring — a fact that she used to say to paxton concordas again and again, back when they'd had to share post in kanto — but there were silver linings to things like this that made it a bit more bearable.

[break][break] in front of the league's research station, CALLISTA MOON sat with her lycanroc snoozing peacefully by her feet. she was propped up on a wooden box, one leg pulled close to her while the other dangled over the edge.

"So this is it, huh?" He speaks to his companion, but his voice is loud enough to include both the woman and her dog into the conversation.

Balmung, Roy's charizard companion, simply roared in response to the human's declaration.

Despite the breathtaking scenery that adorned the edges of the valley, Roy and Balmung remained focused solely on the task at hand. They were here for a purpose, nothing more and nothing less. The promise of payment played one part of the draconid's reasoning, while the other half was fueled by the urge to make connections.

"And who might you be?" Roy's question, though seemingly straightforward, carried a subtle test.

[break][break] "callie," she says, popping another raspberry into her mouth. she chews, enjoying the way the fruit bursts in her mouth like a starburst. "and that's skoll." she points to the snoozing lycanroc.

Roy maintained a silence in response to the woman's offer. While he had no intention of being outright rude, his suspicion of the girl left him with little room to do anything else. Despite knowing their names, Roy remained uncertain about Callie and Skoll's true intentions. He sensed an unfamiliar aura emanating from the woman and that set her apart from the others he had worked with in Area Zero.

"I'm Roy and this is Balmung," he finally spoke, using the introduction to shield his skepticism.

As Roy and his charizard closed the distance between themselves and callie, an invisible barrier of cautiousness prevented them from getting too close. The research station appeared new and barren at the same time, as if the world around it had already taken its toll. In a way, it was just as beautiful as the paradoxical scenery the group was lucky to find themselves in.

"What's the plan?"

Her words appear friendly in their tone. Still, Roy feels reluctant to trust her. Something about her feels off, but he can't quite put his finger on what that particular thing is. Despite his reservations, Roy understands the importance of cooperation in their current roles. If they wanted to work together, they needed to get along first.

"Sounds easy enough," he quips, making a playful nod to the dangers lurking in the giant chasm.

His gaze drifts for a moment, drinking in the surroundings with caution before returning to meet the woman's eyes as she speaks once more.

"Right? You're the first person that's noticed!" Roy's response is coated with genuine surprise, as he immediately releases his skepticism from his mind. With a confident grin, he flexes his arm, to put it on full display. Balmung mirrors his trainer, recreating the same posture a few inches away.

[break][break] for some reason, it seemed like her words were like butter — the tension disappeared from the air almost immediately as her stakeout partner turned to her with most genuine expression that she'd him wear thus far.

[break][break] callie reached forward to feel his bicep, the muscle bulging beneath her touch, before she leaned back with a satisfied grin.

[break][break] "you're right — those aren't any ordinary muscles. you must've worked hard on them." callie mimicked his same gesture, flexing her own bicep to show-off. callie had gone to countless training sessions alongside paxton concordas too — she could hold her own plenty well.

[break][break] lifting his head off his paws, skoll lifted his head off his paws to stare at his trainer and this other human. he stared at them for a moment, almost disbelieving how similar they were, before letting out a snuff and then closing his eyes again as he put them back on his paws.

Roy attempted to flex his bicep even harder as the woman reached out to touch it. This was his way of masking his norm with his prime, but he hoped his poker face wouldn't let Callie pick up on it. When she presented her own bicep, he would only mirror the same excitement that she presented to him.

"Wow! Look at those gains," Roy's enthusiasm matched hers, his eyes sparkling at her display. He shifted his posture so his eyes and head aligned perfectly with the peak of her arm.

"How often do you work out?"

Meanwhile, Balmung added his own flair to the scene, flexing both of his massive arms while the flames on his tail flickered and danced, a fiery display that continued regardless of the attention it garnered. His occasional stomps would shake the earth underneath them, casually disturbing Callie's pokemon that separated itself from everyone else.

Roy's grin widened at Callie's challenge, the spark of competition igniting a familiar thrill in his veins. It was this very pressure that fueled his relentless training, shaping him into the resilient battler he prided himself on being.

The ground beneath them trembled with approaching footsteps, a sudden warning that caught Roy's attention. Though Callie was the first to detect the impending danger, Roy's instincts had already primed him for action.

"Always," Roy confirmed with a confident nod, readying himself for battle. Beside him, Balmung mirrored his readiness, muscles tensed for liftoff. They were a seamless team, synchronized and prepared for the oncoming horde.

As the horde of electric-types surged towards the research station, Roy, Callie and their respective pokemon sprang into action. Balmung's fiery onslaught tore through the ranks of Sandy Shocks, each Flare Blitz engulfing the prehistoric creatures in a sudden blaze. Meanwhile, Skoll's mastery over stone efficiently neutralized the remaining threats. With proper coordination, they quelled the surge of Sandy Shocks in just a few minutes.

Mission accomplished.
