It is clear over time that this is no human, but a Pokemon. However, you play along, enjoying your time with this friendly creature.[break][break]

Eventually, the Pokemon brings you to the outskirts of the festival to offer gratitude before its departure. But the good times do not last. Its crystal mask begins to crack as a TOXIC CHAIN bursts from inside it. As the scene begins to change, it swings its IVY CUDGEL at you.

As Jack and Watts rejoined their little group and they began circulating the festival with their new friend, Beau felt a bit of the tension leave his shoulders after the events of the last simulation. He couldn't quite get the sight of the Pokemon Center nurse out of his head, but if he thought hard enough to himself that it had just been a simulation, he could drive it back, enough.

As they neared the end of the festivities, Beau grinned as he looked over their small compatriot. Yeah, sure, it was probably a pokemon of some kind behind that mask, but the little guy had been innocuous enough, and looked like it wanted to have a good time just like they did, so he didn't see any harm in pushing.

Perhaps he ought have - damn his luck - because when the Toxic Chain sprouted from under its cloak, Beau swore and directed Torben forward to body-block the thing before it could strike. Were those chains in even the simulation now? He'd seen enough of them over the preceding weeks to last a lifetime, but at least he had some idea of what they did and how to handle them.

Not enough, apparently, as the enhanced pokemon dispatched Torben with a single swing of its IVY CUDGEL and raised its weapon to strike Beau next.

I want a do-over, Beau thought, before the weapon struck home and everything went dark.

After the horrors of Slateport, it felt good to just relax in this fictional festival setting. Jack kept a watchful eye on Beau, but the man seemed to have returned to his former positive attitude as the sea of time widened between them and the horrors of their Rocket lives.[break][break]

Jack sighed, munching on a candy apple as Watts playfully jumped around Beau, Torben, and the little masked friend that they had made. Things were always so shitty, and they didn't even get a break from it in the simulation. But at least this one thing was an island of peace of the tumult that was their lives.[break][break]

The yelp of a Boltund caused him to whip around but by then Beau was already down. Their erstwhile friend was already swinging an accursed toxic chain before Jack could even react.[break]
