Cassandra's walking through the streets of Slateport to meet with some friends as she spots a somewhat familiar face in the crowd. She can't be entirely sure, since she's only ever seen him in media and never in person, but the resemblance is striking ...

With Jon in her arms and Martin trailing behind her, she decided to simply approach the maybe-detective and ask directly - just wondering would not bring her closer to an answer, after all! Effie and Saude are circling the air above her, noticing that she's approaching a stranger, and fly a little bit closer, slightly alarmed; they really wish their trainer would become a bit less reckless.

"Excuse me!" she approaches, smiling friendly as she tries to get the attention of the dark-haired man. "I was wondering if you might be Detective Nikita Sokolov? I'm not entirely sure because of that rat tail-"

Maybe she should not insult him if she wants to see if she can hire him for work, but the words already slipped out ... that's just really not a good look, especially with how he does seem to take care of his hair. That's just truly upsetting.

A short jaunt was enough to take him from his front door to his favorite coffee place—The Exquisite Corpse. While he had a coffee machine at the agency, something was alluring about having someone else prepare it. These little breaks also allowed him a view of something other than his office walls. Because it was meant to be a quick run, there was no dog at his side—the Houndstone despised the smell of coffee.[break][break]

Seemingly immune to boiling coffee, he had taken his first sip long before it cooled. It is at this moment that some slip of a girl interrupts him. He expects her question to be followed by a request for an autograph. Maybe a dull story about how he inspired her to become a police officer. A very stupid choice that he’d never advise. Honestly, he still isn’t sure where people get the idea that he supports law enforcement. He finds them to be bureaucratic mummies wrapped in silly red tape. “Mmhmm.” He holds up his hand for pause.

Reluctantly, he lifts his free hand toward his pocket. He carries a ballpoint for this purpose. But the girl keeps speaking. Coffee goes up the wrong hole, scolding his nose from the inside out. Suddenly, the great detective is coughing, his life almost undone by a bit of watered-down beans. That ‘rat tail’ whips around in a flurry as he turns to pierce Cassandra with a pair of narrowed crimson eyes.

Now, he parrots his words back at her. But there’s an edge to them—it's as sharp as his gaze. And almost as sharp as the starved, gaunt cheekbones. “Excuse me?”

Cassandra usually tries not to be rude when she can avoid it - but there's some few things where her mouth is quicker than her brain, ... frankly, there's a lot of those occasions. However, the general upsetness about the rat tail is mixed with concern as Nikita starts coughing. "Are you okay, Sir-?" she asks, also wondering about that ballpoint pen he's started taking out ...

She flinches at his sharp gaze and voice, but there's few who could really rival the terror when Calpurnia's really mad at her. And having just seen the ponytail in action, it's just ... upsetting. "Y-yes," she replies, steadily gaining the unwarranted confidence of a teen who thinks they're in the right, "I just think there could be better things done. You seem to care about your hair, but that's ... ..." sad, she stops herself in time from saying. "There's other hairstyles!"

The questioning of his well-being earned a crimson glare. This girl’s loose tongue—her utter audacity00had almost done what countless criminals could not. It had almost robbed him of his life. “I am fine.” Nikita manages to croak out after a moment. The smell of coffee pervades his nostrils and gives his throat a bitter taste.

Nikita is certainly used to banter. He has exchanged barbs with terrorists like Cillian Quinn and dorian westcliff. But there is something entirely different about the barbs of a teenage girl. At the insinuation that he primps his hair, the detective scoffs. “I wash it, if that is what you mean.” While some might assume everyone did that, Nikita knew better. He had seen the results of poor hygiene a million times over.

A deep breath brings some calm to the reedy detective. “What a brat.” A hand lifts to pinch his nose. “Is there something you need?” The ballpoint pen now lies forgotten in his hand. “Or may I nurse my bruised ego in peace?” The dryness of his voice rivals the Asado Desert.

Cass remains a bit skeptical even after Nikita assures her he's fine, but she is quick to wipe that suspicion from her face and merely nods in acknowledgement. She flinches slightly at the sharp tone, but does her best to remain unmoving still - after all, she's faced her mother many times in perhaps even more stupid situations.

... even if her mother already knows she could be a bit stupid and is in dire need of working charms sometimes.

"I just wanted to give you an advice, I think another hairstyle would fit better," are her next words and a prime example of why she indeed needs to work on sometimes, just keeping her mouth shut. Still ... at his question, she ponders for only a fraction of a second. She feels like there's many bridges burnt here already, but hey, worth a last shot perhaps. "Do you know much about wormholes? And finding people again that went through some?"

The detective sighs. How his teenagers lived to adulthood was one mystery he’d yet to solve. “And just which one would that be?” Before the incident, Robin had taken care of his hair. She enjoyed it. Even if the cutes were simple. “A pompadour?” After she was gone, he didn’t see a point. So, he’d just let it grow until it annoyed him and then trimmed it back.

For a moment, the tired man looks like a hound who has detected a scent. “It depends on why you ask.” The wormholes had become popular boltholes for criminals. They’d also swallowed up their fair share of victims. The man took a step closer to her. His eyes are hungry.
