Reports of an "ambush predator" overtaking route 101 in droves was very disconcerting, and necessary for investigation. There had been dozens of instances of people and pokemon alike getting caught up in trapped webs that it had made Route 101 entirely unsafe until the offenders were gone.[break][break]
Walking carefully through the trees of Route 101, Basara skulking along behind her, Yuina glanced in the tree tops, unable to see anything... but she could swear she felt like she was being watched...[break]
"Do you have any idea what kind of bug Pokemon is considered an 'ambush predator'...," Yuina wondered, fortunately for her she had the resident bug expert along for the trek into the trees.

"Well, that's honestly pretty vague." Doug mused at the question, rubbing his chin as he gazed up. "Lotsa bug types are."

Both to let his mind wander, and to make sure nothing was coming at them from above— a favorite from arachnid pokemon.

"I can think of several off the top of my head. But if local folk haven't been able to recognize it... I'm guessing it's one of the recent imports."

Paldean made.

"Oooh, I've never had the chance to catch a Spidops before!" He said, turning to look at Yuina excitedly—

Stepping carefully still, Yuina tried to mask a grimmace at Doug's return, that lots of bug types could be considered ambush predators. She wasn't sure why, but it just sounded a bit more unsettling than considering something more like a canine being an ambush predator...[break][break]
"Hmm, that doesn't sound like that's going to make things easier then...," she murmered. She still couldn't help the feeling like they were being watched... Glancing up to the trees, did something move? Or there seemed to be a glint of something blinking... Like a reflection from a set of eyes. Not disturbing at all... maybe she was just psyching herself out...[break][break]
"Spidops? What kind of Pokemon is-," the web itself was so thin that Yuina didn't even feel it against her shoes, but she stepped on one such 'trip wire' that reports had spoken about. Quicker than she could have ever realized, there was a hiss from the branches above, and then she felt something around her arms, tightening, pulling them in against her torso, and then her feet left the ground.[break][break]
In the blink of an eye, her scream was all that was left of her presence at all as Yuina disappeared into the branches above, incidentally caught by the ambush predators themselves.

Oh my god, was she asking him about bug type pokemon? Yesss!!! He was so ready to expo-dump on his favorite subje—

"Oh wow, their traps look even more impressive in real life!" He noted with a smile as Yuina rose into the tree tops. He glanced over at Basara. "Lucky Yuina— they don't eat humans— she gets to see them upclose!"

Yuina kept rising... and rising... and disappearing...

...

"Wait, they don't prey on humans." But they ate anything otherwise.

Doug looked at Basara again, then at the spot were Yuina had disappeared.

...

"Oh SHIT!" Doug screamed, before leaping on Basara's back. "WE GOTTA SAVE HER! GO GO GO!"

Luckily, Doug was pretty good with all bugs— even ones that weren't his own.

There was little that Yuina could have made out from Doug's initial comments as she was removed from the ground. The only thing she could hear was her own screams as branches scratched at her from being dragged through the foliage. She made a valiant attempt at trying to rid herself of the threads that wrapped around her, binding her upper arms to her torso, but as her ascent came to a stop, she realized how futile her struggle was...[break][break]
There were dozens of these Spidops surrounding her now, and various other Pokemon that had been caught in the traps and webs that sprawled out through the trees. It was like a hive of sorts, adorned in their silk webs, creating the perfect vantage point to tend to their captures.[break]
Struggling was useless as Yuina found quickly, her arms down to her wrists were bound against her sides, nearly her entire torso covered in webbing. Her ankles were bound first before the webbing moved to encase her legs up to her knees, effectively rendering her immobile and otherwise suspended above the branches as she was stuck within the webbing.[break][break]
Below, at Yuina's screams, Basara lurched forward and narrowly missed the ties that ensnared her. Instead one of his augurite axes stuck into the trunk of a tree as the Kleavor glowered with a hiss.[break]
Doug's exclamation's caught the attention of not just Basara, but of many of the offending bugs as he clung to the Kleavor's back. Basara drew his axe out of the tree and raised both of his arms to strike his axes into two trees, beginning to ascend. A cacophony of hissing and a shower of webs came down from the branches above, it seemed the Spidops were intent on maintaining their capture as they came down from the trees.

Yeah, well, Doug wanted their capture back, so they would have to fork her over.

"I'm so sorry..." Doug breathed under his breath, grasping a pokeball— before throwing it out, releasing his Vivillon unto the battlefield. "BUT I'LL DO WHAT I HAVE TO, BUGS OR NOT! LUCI— HURRICANE!"

The spidops coming down to intercept them, using that webbing as a pseudo-crane?

Well, they suddenly found themselves subjected to very rough winds, a storm whipping about in the forest and threatening to throw them all off whilst Basara, secured to the tree with his mighty axes, continued to climb.

Doug wasn't an advocate for violence, but when he chose it, he made his choice very decisively.

"We're coming for ya, Yuina! Don't worry— I know how to deal with bugs!"

While the Hurricane rushed through the war beneath the tree branches, the whipping winds did little to disrupt the hive as of yet. Either it was too far up to be quite effected, or the webbing so dense the Spidops had almost created a barrier or sorts, either way, everything up above remained relatively undisturbed.[break][break]
The Spidops clung to the trees were formidable, and their webbing effective in keeping them anchored to trunks and branches. Dozens and dozens of threads were released, looking to ensnare the Beautifly, an attempt to cease the raging winds.[break]
Basara continued to climb through this all, the Kleavor leaving deep cut gouges with every part of his ascent, but as they neared the upper portion of the tree trunks, and the Kleavor tried to swing away a Spidops bearing down on them, he nearly lost his hold on the tree trunks. He wouldn't be able to fend them off and continue to climb.[break][break]
Trapped and effectively bound, there was little to nothing that Yuina could do. She had no range of motion to move her arms, she wasn't strong enough to break the webbing trying to flex her elbows out, and she couldn't get her knees apart to try and break her legs free... It was clear the 'ambush predator' knew how to inhibit the escape of their prey...[break]
She could hear Doug and Basara below, they were coming to get her out, but she heard the hissing, the Spidops were fighting back... Then the webbing shifted, Yuina looked to find one particularly larger looking Spidops, black and purple as opposed to the green camoflauge the others looked like coming towards her. Perhaps what was more disconcerting though was the shimmering purple energy that enveloped it, the poison tera crown it wore... And the toxic purple tinge that began to soak into each thread of webbing it touched.[break][break]
"Doug! HURRY!"

Yuina was screaming for help.

Nuclear option it is.

"I'm sorry, forest." Doug muttered darkly as he returned Lucci back to her ball, the poor flier all tangled up in sticky webbing.

Well, that wouldn't be a problem for the next one.

"Nice cooperation— but I gotta split." Doug said, patting Basara on the traps. "See you at the top."

He proceeded to push off the axe-bug's back, putting some minimal distance between them before beginning to rapidly descend.

Boy, trees sure were tall in Hoenn.

"Mothra— don't kill everything!" Doug ordered as swung his pokeball down— releasing his oversized Volcarona beneath himself, the huge moth spreading its wings wide as it suddenly found itself on freefall, feeling a familiar weight settle upon its back. "But don't hold back too much, either. We're going up NOW."

Fire danced around the Volcarona as its wings flapped, ascending towards the canopy. Any webbing in her path combusted upon contact with her body, the searing heat and raw speed carrying them through until they came blasting through the leaves and into the Spidops' nest.

"If y'all think I'm above pinning, ya got another thing coming!!!"

A precarious predicament, as Yuina tried to struggle, an attempt to get away from the purple tinge that crept up the various threads of webbing that ensnared her. She could move her entire body, there was enough weight there perhaps, but when she did feel herself drop just slightly... Her breath caught in her throat. She could very well jostle free from the spot that she was in now that most of the Spidops were occupied, but... Without being able to get her arms or legs free, if she fell...[break][break]
Doug left Basara's back, ascending further into the trees, leaving the Kleavor to the other various Spidops that continued their assault from the branches. The Kleavor glowered at the bugs, drawing one axe out of a tree trunk and swinging to another, now free to move without carrying the extra weight. Webbing didn't stand a chance as Basara swung his augurite axes through the attack.[break][break]
Fire and flame burst through the webbed canopy, a cacaphony of hisses met with more strings of webbing. The larger, poison tera Spidops remained between Doug and Yuina however, its various arms touching and threading along as many strands of web as it could. The purple threads were spreading, like ink bleeding into the silk from just the faintest touch. There was little doubt to say that this particular Spidops was the head of the swarm.[break][break]
"Doug! I don't know what that one is doing! It's terastalized and-," Yuina called, but her words were lost to a pained scream, the poison from the Spidops had bled through to the webbing that ensnared her. This was how it subdued mass amounts of prey at a time, for all of its swarm... The strands that wrapped around Yuina's ankles began to slowly burn into her skin.

"Yuina!"

His eyes flashed, and a blanket of magenta fell upon the canopy, bringing with it a weighty pressure.

With a flick of the wrist, his Flygon was out of its net ball and straight into the battle, its wings buzzing powerfully as the earth far beneath upended, sending one of the tree pillars that supported the colony's vast webbing tumbling down.

The earth raced up the falling bark before lashing out towards tera'd Spidops, crashing into it with the force of a surging river.

Doug didn't pay it much mind— he and his Volcarona had come closer to Yuina while his Flygon handled the leader of the pack. The Volcarona acted swiftly, its burning scales flying into the threads suspending Yuina in the air.

As the threads broke and her bundled up body fell, Doug jerked forward and caught onto it, his jaw tensing as sizzling poison thread bit into his skin, burning as he hoisted her atop his Volcarona.

His eyes narrowed at the venomous burns left in her skin, his hand fishing into his pocket and fetching a small, flat box. It popped open to reveal a scalpel— and it wasn't long before he was slashing it across the length of the thread, splitting it wide before tearing at it forcefully.

TL;DR:
-Guirus used Earth Power.

The pain was nearly dizzying, the feeling of her skin being slowly eaten away by the poisonous threads that were wrapped so tightly around her was stifling. And what was worse was there was nothing that she could do to get away from it, she was trapped, and the toxins bled more and more into the webbing, it was starting to move up from her ankles to her calves and onward... She wasn't sure how much more of it she could take before it became too much.[break][break]
The entire canopy was enveloped in chaos, one giant tree had been ripped from its roots in the ground, and the webbed nest was ursurped in one swift motion as the tree fell. The lead Spidops was far from through with the intruders however, for now it wasn't just its next meal that was threatened, it's entire kingdom was set to fall. It lunged with a myriad of webs for the Flygon that rushed through the trees, trying to ensnare the dragon's wings and its tail, to bind it and regain its hive.[break][break]
Below, as the tree fell from its roots, Basara glowered as the Kleavor lunged from one tree to the next, looking to avoid the calamity of branches and leaves that were coming down with it. He watched as dozens and dozens of spidops were thrown from their hiding places, their webs doing little to keep their stronghold together, but he searched the canopy for any sign of Doug or Yuina, and found none. If they needed help still, the Kleavor hoisted himself higher into the tree tops.[break][break]
There was hardly anything that Yuina could truly keep track of as everything shook and trembled around her. The only constant was the burning, searing pain of her ankles and the bleary tears that marred her vision. She shrieked at the feeling of falling, her stomach dropping, but it was quick to pass as she blinked furiously, finding Doug above her. She coughed a bit as the webbing was ripped from around her arms and her torso, indentations of the thread clear all along her skin from how tightly she'd been bound, how much she was struggling. In that brief moment of knowing what was coming next, lunging to wrap her arms around him, she bit her lips together and clung to him like a vice as the threads that were burning into her skin were ripped from her legs.[break][break]
There was a white hot flash of pain, she couldn't even scream, but she shook against him, unable to let go as her muscles were frozen in the midst of the pain.

Fuck fuck fuck.

Pain was an inevitability in these sorts of circumstances, and he did his best to not let it bother him when providing treatment.

It was impossible to put aside in his mind Yuina's pain.

She wasn't screaming, but her arms were strong around his neck, and her shudders were wracked against his chest.

"You're okay. You're okay." He mutters against her ear insistently as if it will make a difference. No, it'll not— the only thing that will is—

His hand glows, his frame shudders and glimmers as pink petal-like scales distend from his silhouette, merging into her skin.

Behind them, his Flygon faced off with the Spidops leader, flying around the arachnid lithely before blasting a stream of flames its way.

TL;DR:
-Guirus used Fire Blast.
