Thea barged into the PokéCenter in Petalburg City with her eyes brimming with tears. On her arms, she gently craddled her Minccino, that breathed erratically and seemed weak. She hurried to the counter, a bit too desperately while her other Pokémon followed from behind. The Wigglytuff and the Primeape seemed particularly distressed about it, while the Pawmo's ears were sunk downwards, in a mix of shame and worry.[break][break]

She hurriedly informed what was wrong, but between panicking words and trying to voice everything she could all at once, it made things a bit too hard to handle.[break][break]

At the end, all that was clear was that it was an emergency, and without lingering much more, Thea and her Pokémon were escorted to a room where the Pokémon would receive a more focused treatment, since it had no guarantee that the usual machine would solve the problem.[break][break]

With the door opened, the nurse could barely open their mouth to explain what was going on, and Thea was already barging in once again, with her Pokémon in her arms. "She ate something, and she suddenly got all dizzy, didn't respond, and then she fainted, and then, and then—" She started speaking rapidly once again, and the nurse behind her sighed.[break][break]

For the most part, it had been a quiet day in the local pokecenter. Or so he’d been told by the other doctor who he’d swapped shifts with not too long before. That had suited Benji just fine, though he never quite minded the busier days, either. The time flew by quicker that way.[break][break]

And today, he was in for a long night shift.[break][break]

Perched in the back office desk with an interesting novel (a mystery, which he was never too good at solving despite great efforts,) he periodically sipped at a mug of coffee while the assistant on duty tip tapped away at the front desk computer. True to his co-worker’s claim, the late afternoon proceeded slowly.[break][break]

Enough so that the sudden commotion out in the front startled him to attention. Before he could even jump up to investigate, a girl burst through the back doors with a procession of worried pokemon.[break][break]

Benji slipped into work mode quickly–pushing up from his chair to meet her halfway. “Woah,” his hands went up, voice shifting toward a soothing tone. “Slow down there, we’ll get her fixed up.” Brown eyes shifted to the minccino as a concerned frowned settled on his face. Behind him, a tiny floette hovered above his shoulder curiously. “Do you know what it was that she ate?”[break][break]

Carefully, he extended his hands to lift the little mouse into his arms, before pausing to look at the girl. “May I?”

Thea was hyperventilating, trying to calm down as the man returned her words with a soothing voice. She swallowed, as if it was going to swallow down her anxiety, focusing on his question and then letting her mind flow to the moment everything went South. Gominha placed a hand on Thea's waist, while Zeus tapped her arm, both trying to help her to calm down... And eventually, she was calm enough to speak properly.[break][break]

"Ah, please. You may! And... I... I think it was something like... Like a Spelon Berry? But it had a weird color. A pale brown with some purple." She gritted her teeth slightly, watching the Minccino barely responding to the doctor's touch, aside from frowning slightly and doing a weak attempt to curl. "I should've brought it with me—" She cursed herself internally.[break][break]

But soon, the little Pawmo approached. He was still hesitant, but he pulled something from out of the little pouch he had tied on him, rising it to try to catch the attention of the man. It was a berry, mostly eaten, with a color similar to the one described by Thea.[break][break]

Carefully, he lifted the minccino and carried her to a nearby examining table. He laid her on the cushion, frowning as he failed to garner much reaction from the little pokemon. It was likely because her body was so tiny, it didn’t take much for the toxin to spread quickly. “Mimi,” he called quietly, summoning the spinning floette back to his side. “Help draw the poison out.”[break][break]
The floette gave another little twirl on her flower stem, and began to release a soft, healing scent into the air around the mincinno. “The AROMATHERAPY should help,” Benji said, glancing at the girl again and allowing his careful smile to return. “But we’ll give her some medicine as well. It looks like she got a pretty nasty kickback from whatever it was.”[break][break]
As Alethea Ivanova went on to explain, Benji listened, occasionally nodding thoughtfully. “I wonder..” Surely a spelon berry that was just rotten wouldn’t have caused all this. “It would be useful to see..” he agreed, though there wasn’t much to be done about that. He had just turned back to the minccino—pleased to note that some of the distress in her unconscious expression had begun to ease, when a tug at his pantleg caught his attention.[break][break]
“What’s this?” Stooping down to the pawmo, he took the offered berry. “Well, would ya lookit that?” His free hand reached to pat the little rodent on the head. “Good job, buddy. This’ll help a lot.” He turned it over in his hands, noting the particular vibrancy of the purple.[break][break]
“Where did you find these?”

The Floette appearing caught Thea's attention for a second, and if she wasn't too focused on Belle's state, she would already be gushing all over the cute flower Pokémon. Her lips pursed as she watched Mimi using her Aromatherapy, and truthfully the smell she exhaled was comforting in a way. Thea felt her stiffened shoulders relaxing, and even her Pokémons seemed a bit more calm about the situation, even though Hammy was still conflicted.[break][break]

With the ability under effect, the small Minccino finally reacted, letting out a brief cough and twitching her nose slightly, taking a deeper but slow breath, and continuing to do so consistently, picking up the pace of her breathing until she looked relaxed rather than outright limp. Her eyelids trembled, and soon she opened her eyes, very narrowly.[break][break]

Thea brightened up, with teary eyes. "Belle—" She slipped in a cracking but hopeful voice, turning to the flower Pokémon. "Thank you so much, Mimi— Doc, you too. It seems she is... Getting better." Thea smiled, and then nodded at the doctor mention of applying medicines. "O-Of course, as long as she gets better..."[break][break]

When Hammy showed the berry, Thea's eyes grew wide, and she followed the doctor's fashion, ruffling his hair heartily. "Yes, good job Hammy! You are so smart!" The small Pawmo's eyes averted, lowering along with his ears. Thea frowned at his reaction, perhaps he was still too worried to be flushed about the compliments? "... Ah, when I saw her eating it... We were by Route 102. On our way here." She explained.[break][break]

“Of course,” he said with a smile, nodding at the girl as some of the urgency faded the longer the little minccino was subjected to Mimi’s AROMATHERAPY. “She’ll be back on her feet in no time.” Stepping away, he grabbed an antidote, waiting for the pokemon to rouse just enough to give her the medication.[break][break]
She was still a bit bleary and dazed, after all.[break][break]
Benji hummed in thought, brows still furrowed as he mulled over her words. “I wonder if it’s connected with the uptick in those poison chain..things..” Admittedly, he didn’t know much about it. Just the bits and pieces he’d heard, and then the things he’d encountered on his last few daily walks.[break][break]
He spoke as he turned back toward the minccino. “Y’know, there’s been all those reports of pokemon with far more toxicity causing problems all over Hoenn? I’m starting to wonder if they’ve had a more profound effect on the environment.” He nodded at the berry. “Like those. It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s got some residual poisoning.”[break][break]
Or maybe it was just a berry toxic to smaller pokemon–he’d have to double check his handbook to rule that out, though.[break][break]
“Your pawmo looks awful sad, though.” Stooping, he scooped the lil guy up–thinking that it was worry as well. “Hammy, right?” Benji turned toward the little bed so that the rodent could see his buddy. “See? She’s okay, just needs some rest.”
