their venture this time comes with a more dispersed caravan. two HEATRANs lug the drills into AREA ZERO while his ZYGARDE takes point. the tremors from before are absent, for now, but the pokemon’s affinity for the earth is why he relies on it to scout for them.

“we’ll start drilling now,” he announces. a few last minute configurations and the drill comes to life, rumbling as it inserts its nozzle into the earth and spirals into loamy soil.

Gwyar nods, moving to take his place.

There's a brief moment were he stares at the pokemon taking point. A unique creature he had never seen before— not unusual in Hoenn, but this one appeared much different from any legendary or mythical pokemon he had seen.

Much less... grandiose.

Shaking off his interest, he raises his gaze as he arrives at his spot.

"Roger."

His Sygna suit comes alive as the shadows of the caverns become a pitch black. several blades emerging from the cracks.

The numerous Aegislash anchored themselves around the perimeter, watchdogs and barriers in equal measure.

THE PROCESS IN MUNDANE. boring and as monotone as the constant burr of metal carving into dirt and rock. fernando says nothing throughout this phase, more than adequate to sit in the silence of the moment. his attention rest on the drilling rig’s digital display, ensuring that the values remain static.

ultimately, there’s little chance for change. his attention would be better spent observing his surroundings. keeping alert, should anything happen. but why did he need to when a gym leader already promised to keep guard. trust, at its very essence, means to relay and rely.

Things going well oft meant that very little was happening.

Fernando did his part, Gwyar did his, minutes ticked by and little of consequence happened in the meanwhile.

Whatever wandered near was spooked away, if not by the large drill, then by the several pokemon guarding it. The presence Fernando's Heatran alone probably did most of the work.

With the minutes stretching and stretching endlessly, it was only a matter of time before one of them caved in and spoke.

Surely.

UNLESS SOMETHING NECESSITATED IT, it would not be fernando. there is solace in solitude. and the small break in having to engage with anything aside from watch is a pleasant lull. the sound of his HEATRAN grumbling, yawning with less discipline make up for what he does not. for all his reputation and notoriety, gwyar will learn one thing.

fernando is painstakingly boring.

For if Gwyar was anything, specially before someone who could technically be called one of his bosses, it was professional.

Fernando didn't talk, Gwyar didn't talk, and both did their job to absolute perfection.

EVENTUALLY, the drill comes to a stop. fernando seems unfazed as he checks against his phone. a bad signal, due to distance, causes a delay. after a bit longer, he calls out.

“we’re done here.”

whether it’s for gwyar, or his HEATRAN, remains to be seen. however, the pokemon rise from their loafing, shaking off their weariness as they prepare to haul the drilling rig back to the local research station.

After so long, the absence of the drill is almost deafening.

"Pack it up, gals." Gwyar says in response to the councilman, his Aegislash sinking back down into the earth one after the other.

He moves to help in the retrieval of the equipment, taking a brief moment to look about once again before musing to himself.

Huh. That just went down real smoothly.

"This was nice." Gwyar said simply, his ever present smile a little less stiff.

“SMOOTH OPERATIONS OFTEN ARE.”

it’s a luxury few get to experience. in an ever-changing region, often to their detriment, the simplistic and boring are seldom talked about. but the same instances, where little happens, give reprieve to those worn down by constant conflict and tragedy.
