Despite its fancy nature and expensive gleam, Mauville Hills was a great place to do crime. Not petty crime, because the locals didn’t mind complaining about that. But Worse and Worser Crimes? Great. No one wanted to talk about it. Got swept up under the rug.

The Duskull appeared out of nowhere, hovering over her shoulder. Avery’s brain, comfortable and foggy, barely registered it. She blinked at it in the darkness.

“Don’t tell me… you’re the guy I just…”

The Duskull, obviously, didn’t say anything. Just lingered. Continued to linger as she gathered up her things, like there was an invisible tendril attaching it to her shoulder.

When she hoisted her bag over her shoulder, she expected it to disappear, but it followed her as she left, a newly permanent shadow.

“Okay, you can come, but you’re gonna attract attention. C’mere.” She dug for a Pokeball and tapped it to the skull’s frontal bone, drawing it inside.
