as they delved further into the icelands, an eerie sound of some pokemon could be heard rolling over the hills. impossible to tell where it was coming from, every mound of snow she rounded about caused the sound grow louder - bringing her closer to whatever it was.

she already didn't like this place, and for good reason. the anticipation bred anxiety, and that anxiety allowed deep-rooted fears to take hold. petra's heart beats faster, afraid of the wailing and the thing making it that she pursued. eventually, despite the decline in pace, she is brought face-to-face with the pokemon calling out into the wilderness...

"eeep!" jumping as the little guy comes into view, it turns to Petra with an equally scared look upon it's face. "...Seriously?!" The absol at her side snickers while petra brings a hand to her chest, admittedly relieved that it wasn't the worst case scenario she was worried over. "i guess you're separated from your friends, and started calling out for them?" the vanillite nods, floating closer to petra now that she seems to pose no threat.

"we're a little busy, but you can stick with us for a little if you'd feel safer?" nodding again, the vanillite joins as petra's absol begins leading their march further into the icelands.

seemingly out of nowhere, the three of them are under attack as a wild mawile lashes out, demonstrating the sheer force of it's jawpower with a single bite. despite the other two being caught off-guard, petra's absol is at no such disadvantage.

with it's innate ability to detect threats and potential disaster otherwise, it leaps and bounds out of the way, leaving a mound of ice to be crushed between the mawile's hair-jaw-thing. "do your thing, i'll keep this one safe!" taking the vanillite into her arms, petra urges the absol to fight as it pleases - as it's more experienced than she is.

while typing alone put them at a distadvantage, the absol forces a war of attrition, utilizing it's nimble mind and footwork to avoid the critical injuries that would come from some the mawile's offensive. leading it towards a hollow within the ice, a night slash would impact the surface where the mawile stood, running it down into the icy ground below.

looking to petra and gesturing it's crest to direct her along, she is quick to agree. "yeah...let's go before it gets back up." though struggling to run, she manages a plausible jog to make good pace in a direction far away from the mawile...

hoping to find something a bit less vicious, petra's thoughts whelm with old memories of mamoswine herds and their swinub offspring. though a little smellier than she would've liked, it's hard to hold it against them, seeing as they were so cute...

when this memory is eventually cut short due to an alarming growl, the lucario and her are quick to lock eyes with one another. as if sensing petra\s intentions of capture, it was quick to initiate battle - stomaching her absol's night slash in order to ensure a clean hit with it's power up punch.

returning the absol and loosing a ninetales, it becomes evident that the odds are in the ranger's favor. "weaken it with your will-o-wisp." receiving a mystical burn, the lucario began to work up the entirety of it's fighting spirit in order to deal an exacting blow.

"now finish this with fire blast." before it's second punch can impact petra's ninetales, it let's loose a volley of intense flames. the fire blast engulfs the target, smelting it's metallic-enforced organics a little before a pokeball could be used.

"wow..." many people spoke highly of lucario and their strength. petra expected more of a challenge, but maybe, just maybe... she was getting better at this trainer thing? the quiet pace leading out of the silent icelands allotted plenty of time for consideration.
