The reports came in, gradually escalating, about a fire billowing from Route 113. There could be a multitude of causes, not the least of which being the entire environment around the volcano had been disrupted due to its recent eruption. But that in and of itself only made the situation that much more pertinent. The environment was that much more susceptible, and if a soot storm came through with an active wild fire?[break][break]
In spite of her shadows, the seething darkness that was renewed from another vision of her path laid out for her without her choice, Yuina knew she wouldn't be able to hide forever... Remaining still, remaining idle, only bred more darkness to consume her, could she throw herself into her work again to try and distract her addled mind?[break][break]
Sat astride Kano's shoulders, Yuina held fast as the Arcanine rushed through the brush fields of route 113. Weather disasters were familiar to her now, she could handle a fire, make sure that it was contained and then put out... Until she saw the billows of smoke in the near distance marred with... Shadow.[break][break]
Yuina brought Kano to a stop, paws digging into the dirt beneath him as she glanced around. Where was he?

Eyes watch from the trees, a throaty caw alerting Cillian to potential danger. He turns his attention from the Aggron that lays slumped and unmoving among ash-stained grass, gold gaze scanning the route.[break][break]

Cillian stands to his full height, brushing ash from his pants. Far too casual for a poacher.[break][break]

The Arcanine walked carefully now in approaching the fires at Yuina's behest, clinging to his fur beneath her fingers as she looked around. The heat was already a bit stifling, she could feel the sting of smoke at her eyes, but nothing was quite as jarring as seeing the figure in the near distance. He stood up straighter, looming over the still figure of an Aggron... Yuina brought Kano to a stop, smoke trailing from the canine's maw as he regarded her... It was him.[break][break]
"That's right," she returned pensively, eyes flicking between him and the billows of shadowed smoke, and the aggron that didn't move...[break][break]
"What does an underboss have to do out here," Yuina questioned after a moment, regarding him for what he was, what he told her he was to rocket before. She wasn't making light of the encounter, it was more an actual question. What was someone so high ranking in rocket doing in the middle of nowhere?

How easy it was... to be trapped in an encounter with him again. First she was trapped between him and the Arcanine, and now she was trapped between him and the looming flames that spread.[break]
He regarded the Aggron, but only just, if Yuina had to make an educated guess, the insinuation on its condition was there...[break][break]
Sitting astride Kano's shoulders, silently bidding the Arcanine down from the smoke trailing from his maw, Yuina looked to Cillian at his response. And how simple it would be, to take his word...[break][break]
'Question those above you. It's good for you.'[break][break]
Even he himself had told her once that she shouldn't take anything at face value.[break][break]
"What are you really doing out here?"

That isn't even a lie. He'd visit the Safari like anyone else (albeit in disguise), patrol the routes for unusual finds, and of course peruse the Black Market. But it would be unwise to tell her that.[break][break]

Holding up the luxury ball in his hand, he swings his arm back a couple times, slow, to clue her in before he tosses it toward her for inspection. It's empty, of standard make and model, with no signs of tampering.[break][break]

"How is that Arcanine of yours?" He glances at Kano, smirks. "The other one, I mean."

Skepticism was met with truth as he made his point clear. Yuina was sure there were far more methods that someone might go to to obtain different Pokemon, but it was perhaps the idea that they just captured the Pokemon like she herself would to learn about them and study them... She'd done enough work with the rangers by now to know that hunting and poaching was real.[break][break]
However, in a delicate situation, she was in a position to be accusatory. She was insignificant compared to someone like Cillian, and could be made as such very quickly.[break][break]
Looking over the pokeball he tossed at her, as if to prove the validity of his statement, Yuina looked out to him again at the mention of her Arcanine. The other one.[break]
She tossed back the pokeball in kind as she patted the side of Kano's neck, looking out to the underboss.[break][break]
"Fine... I'm learning more and more how to work with him, along side him. I've understood that he can't be controlled, but reaching a mutual respect can be achieved," Yuina offered, in a way the shadow was not unlike the handful of paradox Pokemon that she had come to work with. In an environment that didn't treat them as part of the natural order of things, they couldn't be handled the same way as any other Pokemon.

Cillian catches the ball as she throws it back, turning to lob it gently at the unconscious Aggron. It shakes only once before it stills; clearly, there had not been much fight left in the poor creature.

His Delphox levitates the ball with her PSYBEAM, depositing it into the open palm of the underboss.
[break][break]
"Mutual respect is the best way to control them, I find. Or at least, they need to respect you."
[break][break]
But he was not without respect for his own Shadow Pokémon. He'd offered the Delphox an appreciative nod when it handed him the ball, and he'd bonded with the lurking Corviknight as though it were one of the birds from the Rookery of his childhood, or a Galarian dream.

"I'm glad to hear it's adjusting well. Beautiful creatures, they are. Not something that should be neglected out of fear or ignorance."

Oh, but they should be feared. He does not dispute that.

The aggron disappears... And Yuina held a point of contention at letting it go to the underboss... But still at least for the time being, the status quo remained. Finding him again, and still breathing, was it in her best interest not to agitate the very fragile nature of a given encounter?[break][break]
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and there is beauty in the unknown, like the species that come from the chasm," Yuina agreed, but she did still hold some ignorance perhaps on her part, in regards to their origins. She had surmized roughly the origins of the paradox species, and everyone knew where Ultra beasts came from. She was aware of what caused the illumina phenomena, and her own Hisuian Pokemon were torn through the fabrics of space-time... But what about a shadow Pokemon?[break][break]
"I've studied a lot of other anomalous species of Pokemon, to understand their origins. I'm sure you could tell me how shadow Pokemon occur?"

It was perhaps unwise to share such knowledge with one who might oppose him, but Cillian's love of Shadow Pokemon robs him of higher logic. He so rarely finds an audience so eager to learn.[break][break]

"Could be," he agrees of the dream mist. "If it can create things as strange as Paradox Pokémon, why not Shadows, too?"[break][break]

But it had been a different sort of dream to make his Lycanroc, he thinks. His Zubat still claimed they'd met in the Cloud, and he wasn't sure what that meant for this theory.[break][break]

So there wasn't a clear answer on the idea of interdream mist, but she was sure it was difficult to ever say. No one was certain why the 'paradox' pokemon came from the mist anyway, and why sometimes they manifested and could stay in this plane, or sometimes they disappeared when the mist thinned out. With as unpredictable as the phenomena was, anything was possible.[break][break]
To say that her interest hadn't been piqued would have been an understatement, this was all very similar to how she began her studies on more and more hisuian Pokemon integrating into Hoenn's environment.[break][break]
"Is that being studied," Yuina wondered, if he was so closely tied to the subject, was he conductin any studies about it?[break]
"Maybe I could look into it, with Temp."
