The duo was still holding on, even after the smog and the trashing. Maybe they had been poisoned, but Balder could hardly tell. What was certain is that they were still on the defensive, waiting for the giant bear to fall most likely. Kyle was a good tactician, that much was for certain. He wasn't an elite four for nothing after all.[break][break]

But the Shaman king wouldn't go down so easily. Nor his pokemons. While the Ursaring slowly fell forward, head spinning as a sign of confusion, Balder whistled. The bear, putting his leg down before him to hold back up, started to stand back. Once last push. That's what this would be about. It's a bold and risky move, but it was worth trying.[break][break]

"Shell, set up. Gotta be careful now." The dragonic turtle turned its shell towards the Arcanine and Leafeon. The sun created by the grass dog reflected on the shell as it began to set up the move Shell trap. Depending on the actions of the dog duo, maybe this tactic would prove effective?[break][break]

"Teddy... Let's finish it with a bang. GIGA IMPACT!" Summoning the last of his strength, the Ursaring lunged forward and jumped in the air, aiming to land the biggest impact possible with his remaining energy upon the Arcanine. Wether he was still conscious to see the conclusion didn't matter, so long as he was able to land the blow.

"oh. hehe. i fucked up."

he cornered the beast. he left the battle going for too long. he knows he should have went all-in during their last rotation. kyle lists all of his mistakes on his head, but when he hears the cheering of the audience, he supposes it wasn't that bad.

"wil, bulldoze. leafeon, leaf blade. ursaring."

a low rumble sounds from the arcanine's throat before it translates to the ground. he lifts his paws up before stomping them to the ground, releasing a strong shock wave that shakes the floor of the battlefield. the totems start to shake, threatening to fall over. everyone else's footing was made unsteady, slowing every pokemon on the field down.

the leafeon wasn't affected much, as it remained in position, waiting for his target to come near. he brandishes the leaf on its head, pouncing on the last second to collide with the ursaring with its attack. it gets thrown off at the collision, but their combination of attacks manage to soften the blow for the arcanine.

the fire-type stands before the other fire-type. it breathes heavily, but a determined expression does not deter it from backing down now.

The bear had fulfilled his role. Not only had he damaged the biggest of the two, the smaller hindrance decided to go down with it. With this, Teddy's role as the Vanguard was now complete and he could now get a good rest. A flash of red sliced the air before wrapping itself around the hulking body of the pokemon and making it vanish.[break][break]

Now, the turtle stood, like David against Goliath the giant hound. Yet, even though both were wounded and most likely unable to proceed much more, they seemed more then determined to push even further. And this sounded true for Balder as well, who had the biggest grin upon his face. "I knew you wouldn't let me down, Kyle. Not only as the first challenger of this gym, but as a fighter. It's been a long time since I was able to let loose like this. From one trainer to another, I can definitely say this: You deserve all my respect. Now, let's see you pass the final hurdle! Shell may be small, but that doesn't mean he'll go down easily!"[break][break]

The turtle pokemon puffed some black smoke as he heard his tamer mention his name. The Turtonator stared down his opponent, evaluating its chances of winning. While it did take some hits from area-wide attacks, the Turtonator was in a somewhat better shape then the Arcanine, but this could change any second, depending on what Kyle decided to do.[break][break]

"Shell, we're going on the offensive! Dragon Pulse!" The pokemon took a deep breath before releasing a beam of purple energy from its beak, slicing through the air to try and collide with the Arcanine.

kyle responds to balder's compliment with a smile. there's nothing else to say, and his certain that his expression tells everything the gym leader needs to know: kyle has enjoyed the battle as well.

"outrage!"

the moment a turtonator goes all in is the best time to launch an offensive. the command comes as soon as balder announces his stand. this was the final clash. what happens next determines the outcome of the battle.

his arcanine releases a frenzied roar. his pupils turn to slits as it shows the turtonator the face of fury. it launches itself towards the turtonator with an increased acceleration from extreme speed, coating itself with the blue flames as it dives straight towards the dragon pulse.

without fazing from its injuries in its berserked state, it attempts to take down the dragon-type with its attack, his ferocity matching that of a dragon itself. claws out and fangs bared, the arcanine attempts to rough up the turtonator.

A single yet direct order from Kyle. The Arcanine didn't even hesitate, going all out into its assault, the characteristic blue flames of the move Outrage surrounding its body. Who would've thought that a dog could use the trademark moves of dragon types so faithfully? As the hound charged forward, the Dragon Pulse collided with it, but it seemed like the attack was almost ineffective. Mayhaps in his raging mode, the dog didn't feel the pain?[break][break]

And sadly, that was also Shell's downfall. As the pokemon thought the Dog would slow down in its assault, he expected to have enough time to switch into a defensive stance and use Shell Trap. Yet the dog was much faster and reckless then expected. Because of that... The turtle was overwhelmed. The giant dog collided, sending the dragonic turtle high into the air. Before he could hit the ground, however, Balder recalled it into the pokeball.[break][break]

"Guess all good things must come to an end. Congratulations, Challenger. You conquered the Spirit Realm. You've got the makings of a King that can govern over other trainers. Although that should've been expected, since you're an Elite Four. Nonetheless, here's your reward: The Totem Badge. Normally, for someone that does the regular circuit, it would be the 8th badge. But I think you got way too many at this point. You might want to try shooting for the Champion's seat though. It would bring you a whole new challenge."[break][break]

As Balder said those words, he approached Kyle and handed over the Totem Badge that the man earned. Another one to add to his infinite collection of badges, of course. Just how far would this man go, with his party of dog and wolves?
