paperwork was killing her.

[break][break] when had transferred her out of the precinct and into bodyguard work for the council, she had assumed - foolishly, she supposed - that there would be less of it. but for some reason, these days, it seemed like there was more than ever. especially with everything that had gone on after that supposed prison cell had kidnapped a number of leaguers without any warning.

[break][break] still, this had to be a lot, didn't it? callie was beginning to wonder how much paperwork paxton put on her desk was supposed to be for him instead.

[break][break] regardless, callie was glad for the day off.

[break][break] she leaned against of the lilycove pool, sunglasses tipping back behind her. the off-duty officer was relieved to have been able to tip off the pool boy for the day to turn away any annoying kids from the pool, or even more doting mothers. because god was it hot today.

[break][break] her eyes were closed too, so she would have been none the wiser if someone wandered up behind her for a summer ambush.

"I hate summer," Nabi groaned. It was too hot, but even more than usual. She wished she could escape to the snow-top covered mountains, but Hoenn lacked those. And after her recent debacle with Kyogre, swimming in the ocean was out of the question for now.[break][break]

Eventually, she found herself at a public pool, dressed in a perfectly appropriate bikini suited for such blistering temperatures. Tagging along with her for some much needed fun and water was her swampert, no bikini necessary for him.[break][break]

It was unusually quiet for a hot summer day at a pool, but she relished in the peace. It left plenty of space for one to float without nuisances.[break][break]

"Don't go too crazy," she reminded Bruno. Her words fell on deaf ears.[break][break]

The eager swampert, parched for water, march forward on all fours. Nabi called out to him.[break][break]

Without regard for the sunglasses-woman peacefully lounging, Bruno cannonballed himself into the open waters, surging up a hefty splash to anyone in the vicinity. Nabi came skipping up to the pool's edge, slightly horrified for her pokemon's actions.[break][break]

"I'm so sorry! He's just so excited," she tried explaining to the woman who... wait, had they met before?

god hated her.

[break][break] at least, if such an otherworld diety existed, they certainly must have. because why else would every day off she had somehow be filled with insurmountable chaos?

[break][break] suddenly, without warning, her peaceful day at the pool exploded — quite literally. something dive-bombed into the pool and immediately, callie spluttered as she felt her lungs fill with water.

[break][break] "what the hell!"

[break][break] anger immediately flashed through her, wanting to throttle whoever was responsible, when her eyes fell upon a very familiar set of eyes.

[break][break] "oh god. it's you."

Nabi twitched at the word thief.[break][break]

She cleared her throat. "I thought we left that behind us. Forgive and forget and whatnot."[break][break]

What was her name again? Nabi pondered, realizing that maybe they hadn't even exchanged names in the first place. She did clearly remember stealing a churro that day, and then being forced to buy this girl one to make-up for it.[break][break]

Bruno's head popped out from the water. He happily spit out a small stream like a fountain. He was more than content in simply floating in place with his eyes closed.[break][break]

"It's Nabi," she then said as she slipped into the water, keeping some distance between herself and the other girl. "My name. You can call me that from now on instead of 'thief.'"

[break][break] which, technically, was true. they didn't. callie barely knew her beyond the fact that the other woman had tried to steal from her and then try to make it up with her with a shallow gesture.

[break][break] callie contemplated trying to arrest the other woman again, but realized that and her other superiors would probably have an issue when she couldn't come up with anything other than 'destroyed my relaxing day off'.

[break][break] so instead she slid deeper into the water, with a sigh.
