This was lower pressure than fighting a beast. He was glad they could get a break from combat and instead focus on something more tangible as a contribution to the effort. He did, however, have little preference as to which they got familiar with. Forever paired with Hitoshi, he looked over to the more established Rocket and nudged him pleasantly. "Whatcha thinking?" They were both good choices. [break][break]

Clover had never driven anything, so a thorough vehicle inspection involving a test drive could be an issue. But they had only handled a handful of weapons, so there was something to learn regardless.

You find yourself within an expansive hangar. Parked before you are an incredible assortment of vehicles: tanks, Humvees, supply trucks, ATVs, small aircraft, and more. Anything that might prove useful in the war effort. Adjacent to the hangar is an open range used for the practice and maintenance of these vehicles. [break][break]

"You make it sound easy..." He started, unsure of his ability to drive anything. He could handle Tropius and a few other flying pokemon, but he wasn't confident about machines. Still, he followed Hitoshi's directive. "Iron Lady sounds cool. Can I meet her?" [break][break]

There were way too many vehicles of destruction. Clover wasn't sure where to start. "Um. Maybe we can drive that one?" It was a large, boxy Humvee fitted with a turrent on the back. The windows didn't look to be the kind to roll down. Perhaps, they were bullet proof? "But we don't have to... it might be safer if you drive."

“Anyway. Get in here. I’ll show ya how to drive.” The dog jumps into the passenger seat, leaving the driver’s seat open for the other. For once in his life, his voice grows gentle, less jovial but somehow more friendly. “Thing ‘bout these cars is that you gotta treat ‘em with respect. Take it slow. Watch out the mirrors. Adjust this to bring it out of park. Down to this here ‘D’.” He points at the D.[break][break]
“This is a big ole fuck you Humvee, so it can take a dent, but take her slow. No slammin’ yer foot down on the pedal.”

There's a track available to race any of the ground vehicles, it's up to you whether or not you want to indulge the grunt and provide them with some entertainment. [break][break]

Clover beamed at Hitoshi. "Can't wait to see her!" A forge sounded badass. The car, on the other hand, was a source of far less excitement. She got in and buckled, then listened to his instructions. Okay, she knew brake was left, gas was right, and the stick part chose the gears. She pulled the gear shift down to D and squeezed the steering wheel tight. "Uh- it's going. I'm not even on the gas. Is it supposed to do that?" [break][break]

Several minutes into the scariest crash course of their life, a grunt pulled up beside them and insisted on a race until they saw Clover's babyface and... she didn't know. Maybe they thought it wouldn't be fun to beat someone so young? Or maybe they could sense her terror. Clover did their best to listen to Hitsohi's ever-patient instructions, but their accelerations and braking were still very sudden and shaky. "You can do it, Clover..." they kept murmuring, wishing for their ancestors to give them strength.

“See there? Yer gettin’ better, kiddo.” After some time, the dog feels confident enough to lean back into his own seat, peel the window down, and let some ashes fly behind them. The vehicle wobbles, but all of them do that when novice drivers are behind the wheel. It is far safer to be in here, transporting supplies and troops to and from the front lines, than it would be to fight on the frontlines. The dog considers this training to be something that might well save the child’s life.[break][break]
“Don’t forget the breaks, and don’t mind those jerks. You’ll be a racer one day. Fer now, we just gotta getcha settled in. We can take as many laps ‘round the track as ya want. Ain’t no rush. Got nowhere t’be fer a while.”

After a while, it gets to be a little fun. A little. He still struggles to make things smooth, but at least their hand-eye coordination is solid and the movements around the track are steady. Once they've mastered the footwork, driving will be easy peasy. "Racing sounds kind of fun," he admitted as Hitoshi mentioned the potential to be a racer. "Do you ever do it?" [break][break]

People drove in Fallarbor, especially because of the ash, but her people tended not to. But there were many towns in Hoenn that didn't see much driving, particularly those that were by the sea. She was the first one in her immediately family to learn, which felt good, even if they preferred a more natural mode of travel.
